About
me
This is me in San Francisco, where I live.
I am 29. I suffered from acne for many years, since the age of 12 or 13, and managed to clear it up at about 25. I always felt that it held me back from living. I understand the depression that goes along with having acne. At times, it was all I could think about.
Why did I make this site? I read a book about four years ago recommended by my friend Karen called "The Seven Spiritual Laws to Success" by Deepak Chopra. It's a cheesy title, which is unfortunate, because it's a really cool book. Anyway, Chopra talks about how you should ask yourself the question, "How can I best help other people?" The answer was immediate and apparent when I read that. "I should tell people how I managed to get my skin clear."
I took an html class and hand coded a long one page explanation of what I did on a daily basis to get clear and stay clear, and put it on my Earthlink homepage. Almost immediately, I started getting e-mails from people who were amazed at how well my regimen worked for them. Since the URL of that site was home.earthlink.net/~dwkern, and hard for people to remember, I decided to register a dot com and called it AcneRegimen.com. More e-mails followed, an overwhelming majority of them very positive. Deepak was right, helping people is deeply rewarding.
People asked lots of questions about medications, scar treatments, and other stuff, so I decided to start doing some research. AcneRegimen.com grew as I included the information I had gathered regarding these topics.
I recently haggled and hassled and managed to acquire Acne.org for $500. I used the money that I have made from people ordering supplies through drugstore.com from my site to purchase the new dot org domain. That's where you are now.
Other info about me:
Born: West Chester, Pennsylvania, August 6, 1972
College: James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, B.S. in Sociology (I am NOT a doctor)
Job: Personal Trainer at 24 Hour Fitness, San Francisco, CA (so much for Sociology)
Hobbies: Drawing and painting, working out, filmmaking, web design, reading, hacky sack
Aspirations: To get the word out about my regimen to as many people as possible. I want to conduct research on the regimen as well, because I believe that with research, the dermatological community will realize that gentle cleansing plus a large amount of benzoyl peroxide cream at a low concentration works better than any of their prescriptions and fancy treatments (aside from Accutane for people with severe acne).
