i read the hype, and bought some powdered vitamin B5.

I took around 9grams per day (3 teaspoons) mixed with fruit juice. It suggests piling all 9g on your tongue then washing it down, but this nearly made me vomit - it is very bitter and unpleasant. The only pleasnat way to take it is to split it into 3 doses per day. and mix each dose with fruit juice and down it with yur nose pinched!

In the first 2 weeks I had excessive wind, and bad stomach aches, but these were the only side effects.

I was on this regeime for 4 weeks and saw a barely noticeable improvent in my acne.

I wouldnt bother trying this again - i find washing with soap more effective.

I did a science fair project about B5 and started 500 mg one week. Then 1 gram for 3 weeks and notice some changes in my skin somewhat clearing. Then 2 grams for 4 weeks notice more clearing in my skin (face and back area) started to clear up more. Then I decreased and notice that it some of the acnce appear. So the use of the B5 is very effective even at 2 mg. Plus good health eating habits and cleaning your face with Clearsal helps too. Thanks for the insight. love it.

I am 26 and have had acne for about 10 years. My acne is mild to moderate and is mainly caused by stress and hormones (I'm female):not severe but extremely persistent. Mostly, I have had blackheads and literally hundreds of tiny white pimples (closed comedones) that were impossible to get rid of, especially on my chin. Ocasionally I got larger pimples and have had a few cystic spots that required injections (excruciating and not that effective)! These larger pimples were slow to heal. After facials and extractions, all the small pimples would come back on their own, often overnight. I have tried tons of products: salicylic acid, retin-a, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, jojoba oil. All of these products were somewhat effective but only for a short period of time and had a lot of side effects - thinning skin, dryness, flakiness, irritation, etc - that I didn't like. As adult acne sufferers know, many of these treatments are too drying or prematurely age adult skin. After reading the reviews on this site at elsewhere on the internet, I decided to give vitamin B5 a try. I decided to take 2 grams a day - 1 gram in the morning and1 before bed. I bought my B5 at the GNC. Because I was a little concerned about megadosing, I also bought a megavitamin in order to keep the other B vitamins balanced. I take the two megavitamins (thats 1 dose) with my nightly dose of B5. I have been taking B5 for a week and the improvement is AMAZING! Normally, I would never write an online review but the results are so impressive for me that I decided to write one. The tiny white heads are almost entirely gone: reduced from hundreds to less than 10. As other people have noted with B5 usage, my pores also appear much smaller and cleaner. The redness of larger blemishes has entirely subsided and the spots themselves are almost entirely gone. I did experience some skin dryness and flakiness for the first day or two but switched to a very gentle cleanser (Cetaphil) and now my skin does not feel dry. There was no stomach upset for me and I take the B5 on an empty stomach. B5 has allowed me to stop using expensive topical applications: I just wash with Cetaphil and apply a MSM (organic sulfur) cream to moisturize and my skin stays fresh looking and feeling all day! I would highly recommend B5 as an effective acne treatment. If you are concerned about the dosage, consult a nutritionist or just take a multivitamin.

It was recommended to me to take a probiotic on an empty stomach in the morning, a b-complex with breakfast, and zinc on an empty stomach at night before bed (it made me nauseous for the first 4 days, but after that it didn't), and after about a week or two my skin started to look better than it had even when I was on Proactive, Differin, and all of the different antibiotics, and topical creams that dermatologists have given me for the past seven years (I feel like I've tried everything expensive that they offered). It's a very simple routine that doesn't interfere with anything else in my life, and there is a wonderful improvement in my skin.

taking B5 alone isn't gonna cure you ....however, I found it to be very helpful...I take 3 grams of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5)..two capsules before each meal...1 vitamin B complex a day...1 50 mg of zinc a day and finally a daily multivitamin...along with some daily exercise (30 min running) and some diet changes (lots fruits for snacks instead of choclates and candy , fresh juice instead of soda ...etc) ....this regiem has worked for me...and finally i don't use any acne products crap...no cleansers, BP, sycilic acid or anything else...good luck to all of u

45 and still working on it from eUSA ast bay, ca

I'm 45 and I've been on 3 courses of Accutane over the last 20 years. (which I'm thankful for) After about 5 years of fairly clear but oily skin I've recently started to get a few severe nodular cysts which I'm guessing are stress related. I'm on my second day of B5...starting out with 3 Grams for 3 days and after that I'll take the recommended 10 G dose. We'll see how it goes. After 20 plus years of dealing with acne I found a few things helpful, like using free and clear laundry soaps and not using "Bounce" type products on pillow cases and towels. I also had a "True Test" skin allergy test and found I was allergic to formaldayhde which is very common in cosmetic products. I now use Jane Iredale pressed powder which is hugely expensive but worth it. I also use those clean and clear sheets for oil absorbtion throughout the day which are great. Water and vitamin C and Zinc were recommended by the same specialist who said to avoid fabric softeners etc. I use Retin A 3x per week and with a textured cotton pad and exfoliate by getting it wet in hot wated and rubbing in a downward direction only (in the direction of hair growth) I can actually see pores unclogging with dead skin and sebum. Sounds icky but keeping my pores clear in this way has been a key to managing my skin. The Retin A also helps with scarring and I have to say wrinkes too. Good Luck to every one dealing with acne.

I used b5 before getting pregnant and it did wonders! I stopped during the pregnancy (I had perfect skin during the pregnancy!) but now when the baby is born I´m starting to break out again. And I´m definately going back on b5. It is the only thing since Accutane that has worked for me.

I've been on everything, including Accutane-2x!! You'd think I'd have perfect skin after that. A couple of years after my last accutane series I started getting really oily and breaking out again so I went back on Minocyclin. My skin was great for a year and then as I built a tolerance to the antibiotic, I was really oily and breaking out. So I've been on Vilantae for about 3.5 weeks now taking 6 pills 4x a day. After my first week on Vilantae, I broke out like I used to before I took Accutane in HS. And I've noticed they are painful and large. I've been using BP as a topical and a lot of lotion. My skin is dry, but still full of acne. I am wondering if I should try taking Vilantae along with an antibiotic??? Maybe then I would be clear and less oily. I'm going to stick with Vilantae for at least another month to see if I make ANY improvement. I'll let you know, cross your fingers for me.

I'm about to finish my first bottle of Vilantae, which consisted of 400 capsules. I'm currently taking 20 capsules daily, 5 capsules 4 times a day. Although my acne has never been severe, I have always had extremely oily skin. With this product I'm looking for decreased oil and maybe even improved texture. After 20 days I'd like to report that the oilyness of my skin has greatly reduced and my pores have slightly decreased in size. My skin is fairly dry, which may be because it is now winter time and I'm spending a lot of time outside. I'm also using cetaphil sensitive skin soap morning and night, and a thin layer of differin gel at night. I read that it takes up to three months for Vilantae to take full effect, so I plan on taking 20 pills every day through atleast another two bottles. After that, I will probably take 5 a day or less. The only side effects that I have experienced have been headaches at the start of taking Vilantae (which I'm not getting anymore), and my urine is very yellow. I'm very excited about my future results. Good luck to everyone trying out B5, and Happy Holidays!
