when i had my physical my doctor saw i had a few pimples and offered me a perscripiton. i had been using benzoyl peroxide for a long time which had PRETTY MUCH kept my acne under control, but not 100%. So hoping to become 100% clear i spent $80 on his retin-A micro perscription.
Well, my **ACNE** didn't get any worse from it, but my whole face pretty much came off. it stung like all hell and made my skin bright red, and all these people (who probably hadn't even noticed my mild acne in the first place) were like "wat the hell happened to you?!?" They seemed to think i had the ebola virus or something.
I stopped using the [censored] after about a week (blew $80), and moisturized like hell, but it took more than a month for my skin to return to its previous condition. So... the upshot is don't take acne perscriptions from your doctor cuz they don't know wat they're doing (see a dermatologist).

I've used Retin A on and off over a number of years.

I find Retin A 0.05% works best for me if:

I wait at least 30 min after washing my face to apply, and apply only to *very, very* dry skin

Apply it only every other day for the first week or two until my skin is used to it

Wash my face the next day using a gentle exfoliant to buff off flaky skin

Apply a heavy moisturizer containing sunscreen after the morning wash

I have sensitive skin and don't sweat much. This seems to work for me.

I have been using Retin-A micro for about 3 years. It definitely WILL make acne worse in the first month or so, but then it will keep it under control, so just be patient. It doesn't much work so well on the body b/c the skin is thicker, but it has gotten the acne on my face under control. The bad part is that unless you have good insurance, it is about $80 a tube and may not last so long if you use it on the body. Also, if you have sensitive skin and/or use salicylic washes, it WILL irritate the skin. Hope this helps.

I take Retin-A Micro along with Doryx and this combination works really well for me. I rarely have any outbreaks anymore.

So far (four weeks) this stuff hasn't worked at all. My acne is just as bad as it was (if not worse), and there have been no real tangible nor visible signs of actual acne reduction.

I am a bit angry and frustrated with this whole experience.

Well, I personally got a chemical burn from using it. My doctor just had me continue using it which really didn't help. I do not recommend this especially for people with sensitive skin. My skin was coming off in sheets, which was pretty nasty and painful. Its been 4 months and I have seen no improvement. The acne is supost to get worse before it gets better but I have yet to see the better part.

this is a piece of [censored]... i never got acne in high school..then when i graduated thats when i started breaking out but it wasnt as bad..ill like have 1 or 2 pimples. but when it came to 3 pimples i started to freak out... so like any other person i went to the dermatologist and he prescribed retin-a micro and tetracyclin... after 4 days of using retin-a micro MAN!!! MY WHOLE FACE WAS ON FIRE!! it was like ive had pimples throughout my childhood...then i just stopped the medication because my cousins wedding was like 1 month away and i was one of the bridesmaid and i know i cant have my face on fire for the wedding so i went to get facials every week at the spa..thats when my face got better...now its been like a year later and now i have to put up with my acne scars...now i have been researching on a new product called OBAGI...i hope it works!!

I have been using retin a micro for 3 months and although there has been some improvement in my skin it definately got worse before it got better. I am still getting zits which is really frusterating and i am hoping that they will go away soon. i used the .04 instead of the .1, and my face was only a little dry, not red. I am using it with doryx and triaz pads.

No offence to anyone to whom this [censored] has actually worked but the 1st couple weeks suck big time. Im only on my 6th day and I've got twice the blackheads and pimples as before. Its really pissing me off because honestly i went on this stuff so I wouldn't have to wear concealor and I'd be more confident about my skin and appearance but its only bringing me down. Although some of you have said it takes some time to work I'll give it a try but I'm really sick of hearing ' It'll get worse before it gets better. ' [censored] that. Somebody needs to start making some good acne meds for all of us that JUST make it better. Anyways thats my opinion and I just hope to God this %$#@ worx.
Wish me luck. Sara xxoo.
