My doctor recently presribed me Retin-A Gel for my very oily skin. I used a tiny pea sized amount on my face for a few nights and the results were ok- just because the oiliness went a little, but a few days later I came up with loads of spots and boils which hurt like mad! :( It's a horrible product if u want fast results- which for me, I am very impatient with my skin. Days on and I am still getting new boils and I have stopped using it. And for the oiliness, its come back!!! :( I don't know what to use to stop my oiliness, I have tried everything! Anyone got any ideas??? Thanks.

The tretinoin was very hard to me. Descamation, eritema, dermatitits... but it works well, if you can wait for a loong time (1-2 months). I don't think it's a safe drug, 'cause the tretinoin associated with UV rays is carcinogenic. It's almost impossible and pretty hard not to be under the sun here in Brazil...

My dermatologist prescribed Avita Tretrinoin cream 0.0025% Gel for me together with Fougera Erthromycin Topical Solution. I was directed to apply the Tretinoin cream in the evenings before bed and to wash it off it the mornings and then apply the Fougera antibiotic. For 3 weeks, the acne on my forehead has decreased about 70%. The Avita gel just makes my skin really dry and look like it's peeling, but putting on moisturiser makes it look fine. It is actually decreasing the number of pimples! The Fougera stuff seems useless though. I don't really use it as often because it doesn't make my skin any less drier. It smells pretty bad too.

I've been on this medicine for about 5 weeks now. The only change i've noticed so far is that my skin is alot less oily. The acne is still bad though. When I first started with this medicine (0.05%) The skin itched, flaked and burned horribly. It got better after a week or more. Even though I haven't seen any improvemets on my acne, I won't give up just yet. I've been told that it could take up to six weeks before you notice improvements.. So I guess I'll stick with it a little while longer.

I've been on Retin-a for about six weeks now. Saw fairly good improvement in skin after 2-3 weeks, but now I'm having MAJOR breakouts all along my chin and jawline. I'm so pissed. I've been dealing with acne since I was 15 (10 years now!) I did two rounds of accutane when I was 18 and then followed up with Differin as "maintenance". This worked beautifully for about 4 years - I never got one blemish. Then right about the time I graduated college I started breaking out badly again. I started using Proactive in the mornings, then the Differin at night. Once again I was acne free for about three years. Now, HERE WE GO AGAIN! I started breaking out once a month on my chin - dr. said these kind are mainly hormonal. So I changed birth control pills, and started using Retin-A with Doxycycline. It sucks and I'm back to square one. The Doxy makes my stomach hurt so bad and I can't eat dairy with it or I get really sick. I thought the Retin-A would nip the chin breakouts, but, no, its back to like it was when I was highschool. I'm depressed and feel ugly, and just want to stay in bed all day. UGH! why can't someone come up with something that works?! Accutane was great, but the side effects are scary and I've already done it twice, so scared to do it again. I'm afraid my liver will shut down or something. I'm being reassured by the dr that the bad breakouts should be expected and that by 12 weeks I'll notice big improvments. But geez! Six more weeks of this? I don't know what to do!

It is harsh stuff. It has also been the most effective stuff that I have tried, but not what I would call great. I'm looking for a more permanent solution.

I was put on this product by my dermatologist. It made my face EXTREMELY red and the peeling was so bad, it HURTS! I wouldn't recommend this at all if u have highly sensitive skin like me. I used moisturizers and since the product made my skin oily, I constantly had to blot which tooked away the moisturizer and before u know it, the peeling was exposed to the world... this product SUCKS!!! The concept of your skin flaring up before results is dumb. uh.. that creates SCARRING. .which means more investment to remove scars (i.e. laser resurfacing, microdermabasion) STAY AWAY!
