| Pros | None for me personally. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Developed severe chemical burn that has persisted for over a month since discontinuing the treatment. |
| Bottom line | I don't doubt that this is an amazing drug for most people, but I just want to post a word of caution for those with very sensitive skin. My doctor gave me samples, and I therefore I didn't have a package insert or know any of the precautions or side effects. I had no idea how harsh this drug was. I used only a TINY amount on an old acne scar. Even though I only used it a few times, I developed a SEVERE burn about an inch away from the acne scar. I am upset that the dermatologist never asked anything about my skin type, or gave me any instructions whatsoever. I stopped using the cream over a month ago, yet still have this terrible burn that doesn't want to heal. I went back to the doctor, and even he was stunned at how bad it was. He currently has me using a steroid regimen with hopes that this somehow brings it under control. I don't want to discourage anyone from trying this, but do be aware of it's harshness if you have very sensitive skin, and if you get samples, make sure to read how to use it properly in order to avoid unwanted side effects. |

| Pros | - brighter, smoother, more even skin - no initial breakout - works deep down - bonus: supposedly hides wrinkles! |
|---|---|
| Cons | - my skin sometimes switches from very dry to slightly oily - sometimes irritating, though that is lessining with time - can be expensive without insurance (I think mine would have been around $175) |
| Bottom line | So I'm 25 years old, female- and my acne was getting worse than it was in high school. I've always had blackheads on my nose and chin, but the past few years have brought on deep acne in my chin and jaw line. It tends to be hormonal, and I often would have just one clear week of the month. And even though I was clear, there were ALWAYS underground blemishes just waiting to pop up... my chin was a minefield. And being impatient and frustrated, I almost always ended up popping them, leaving me with tons of pigmented spots. I've been using this regimen for 4 weeks(see below), and I've noticed a HUGE improvement in the underground acne that's lurking beneath in addition to my skin tone. Though I still have a ways to go before my coloration is completely even and my chin is fully clear, I haven't used any other products that have worked this quickly. My skin is smoother and brighter. I finally have hope for clear skin!! Luckily, I did not experience the initial break-out (knock on wood). I've had a few breakouts since I've been using these products, but nothing that I hadn't already been through. I think that the clindamycin/benzoyl gel may be helping with that, as I believe it is partly an antibiotic. To start out, my dermatologist told me to use the tretinoin every third night, which was a great recommendation. At first it was slightly irritating, and there was some very intense drying and redness. That pretty much was just from the 2nd to the 3rd week. I just started using the tretinoin every other night, which has been great. Here is my current full regimen: -wash with Loreal Go 360 Deep Clean -Tretinoin Cream .025% every other night (applied at least 20 minutes after washing) -Clindamycin Phosphate/Benzoyl Peroxide Gel on the alternate nights, and sometimes in morning (though morning sometimes tends to irritate, and I try to wait a while to apply this as well) -still trying to find a good moisturizer |

| Pros | clears cystic acne, whiteheads, blackheads smoothes skin |
|---|---|
| Cons | Initial drying/readness |
| Bottom line | I really like this stuff. The first week was strange, because it dried my face out. I was peeling, i looked like I had severe sunburn peeling. (also, i think applied too much) Anyways I am on my 3rd month, and I never really had an initial crazy breakout that people talk about. Some hormonal breakouts were worsened, but nothing unmanageable. I have cut back on how often I use it to every other night, and that seems to be working much better. I dont use BP the nights I use Retin-a. Overall, really really like this stuff. :) |

| Pros | Got Rid of Acne Leaves My Skin Smooth Works Quickly and Keeps Working |
|---|---|
| Cons | May have dried out my skin a little at first, but I don't really remember |
| Bottom line | Using the generic version of this at night paired with the generic version of metronidazole in the morning has completely cleared up my skin. I would recommend it to any one suffering from moderate acne. |

| Pros | -did a good job of clearing up acne on my chin -smooths out the texture of your skin, smaller pores -didn't dry out my skin -no initial breakout -one prescription lasted me more than 6months |
|---|---|
| Cons | -occasional redness/irritation -didn't clear up my skin 100%, but I'm still happy with the major improvement |
| Bottom line | I have been taking Atralin once daily, before bed, for over 6 months now. This gel is very gentle and has never made my skin flaky. Started seeing results in about 2 weeks, but eventually the improvement started to level off, and my skin still gets pimples here and there. Overall Atralin made a big difference in the appearance of my skin and I would recommend it to anyone. Also, with Atralin i would not be afraid of an initial breakout. I never had one and if you start using a small amount, it is very gentle. |

| Pros | Clear skin Shallow pimples Smooth skin Increased skin turnover |
|---|---|
| Cons | Some redness Initial peeling Initial breakout |
| Bottom line | I was suffering from moderate acne and was prescribed 0.05% tretinoin by my dermatologist. I had tried every OTC product and homemade remedy from tea tree oil and turmeric, pH balanced soap, proactiv, AcneFree, shaving excessively, not shaving. It was actually getting pretty desperate because nothing worked. I finally broke down and made an appt with a dermatologist and was put on a regimen of tretinoin, doxycycline, and benzaclin, which is very common. I think most people who suffer from the initial breakout are prescribed tretinoin by itself. The doxycycline and benzaclin are things that may lose effectiveness over time, but for the first ~3 months, they do well to keep the initial breakout produced by tretinoin to a minimum (and you don't want to be taking an antibiotic for an extended period of time). The first couple of weeks of using tretinoin, I noticed my skin get scaly and then peel aggressively. However, once the peeling subsided, my face was almost smooth. After 6 months, my derm started to ween me off the doxycycline, and the acne has stayed away for the most part. I still get one or two pimples every 2 weeks or so (this is a dramatic improvement), but they are typically shallow and go away after a few days. I think with tretinoin, most people tend to get discouraged after a few weeks because their acne gets worse if they are not using another complementary product, but I would highly advise sticking with it for at least 3 months. It really does get better. |

| Pros | Prevents minor acne fades scars |
|---|---|
| Cons | extremely drying- I cannot wear make up for about a week after using this 0.025% retin A gel as the make up just sticks to the dry areas and looks awful. Didn't find it helped with cystic acne. but definitely helped with small spots. |
| Bottom line | I would recommend this product as it definitely does the job, however, I definitely wouldn't use it if you are planning to cover the skin with make up, for me it was at least a week before the dryness went and I could wear make up. |

| Pros | Clears Skin Deep Down Skin Looks fantastic No more spots Smooth, clear, blemish free skin ! |
|---|---|
| Cons | Extreme drying Flaking Can be painful to apply in the first month Takes time to work |
| Bottom line | Retin A is a fantastic product for clearing skin deep down, I was prescribed 0.01% gel and at first it sounds weak, however it really does work to clear skin deep down, although in the first 4 weeks be prepared for your skin to really break out, this is due to all the dirt and deep spots being lifted out and the new colligen being formed, skin will also be very dry and red with flaking ! All this is normal so dont worry ! Stick with it and youll see amazing results ! ive been using retin a with my daily dose of 1000mg oxytetracycline ! results are breath taking ! anyone Whos just started using retin A this product will change your life !! |

| Pros | Made my acne clear up Helps get rid of pigmentation Helps prevent oily skin Makes skin smooth Gets rid of any wrinkles you may have |
|---|---|
| Cons | Can be a tad drying if overused If I cry or sweat, it burns badly I, personally, cannot use it with anything else. I had to stop using all makeup and I had to stop the other topical I was using (clindamycin) Can cause redness for some but not for me If you get this anywhere near the skin of your eye, you'll be sorry for the next few days. FLAKES EVERYWHERE |
| Bottom line | I didn't pay anything for this, my doctor prescribed me Retin-A cream almost four months ago along with minocylcine pills and clindamycin. The pill and the Retin-A work, but the clinda had to go. Retin-A didn't take a long time to work for me as it does with many people, and it didn't dry my skin very much.I saw results within two weeks. I started using it once a day, and then I starting using it twice a day because I felt once wasn't enough. You aren't supposed to do that, but my doctor actually agreed to it. It works really well. I've had moderate acne since 4th grade and I am now 15. I have not a single spot. I have a few pigmentations, but I'm 99.9% sure that'll be gone soon enough. I'd recommend this to anyone. I get complements on my skin all the time, and I never got that before when I had to pile on makeup (Although I love my makeup, I had to let it go. It wasn't allowing the medications to work). Also, if you're a picker, stop picking and get your hands on this. You will be so glad you did so. The dryness and itchiness go away so if you can deal, it's worth it. I don't know about anyone else, but for me this was a miracle. |
