Pros None yet
Cons I think I'm breaking out a bit more
Bottom line I did not break out like most teenagers, and as soon as I turned 18, I started getting little pimples here and there. Still, I do not have much to complain about.

Based on your posts, it seems like folks have been using tretonin every night. I was told to use it every other night...

I think I will stick with it because it seems to be the only product on the market left for me to try. Proactive did not to the job and over-the-counter products have failed as well. Also, my acne is not nearly severe enough to try accutane; my derm won't prescribe it for me.

Pros It does work.It will stop break outs.Dries out white heads to prevent you from popping them.
Cons intense dryness of skin. It does create a shiny effect.
Bottom line Ive been using tretinoin for about 2-3 years now, and i have kept it around. Whenever i have a crazy breakout, i use tretinoin to clear it all up. Im using 0.1% which is a lot stronger than what most ppl are using. But it works.I've learned how to apply it correctly, and what it basically does is lift an entire layer of skin off of your face and will keep doing it. Its drying affect is good b/c it stops anything from forming on your face, even white heads, which are hard to stop. My advice on using this product is apply a thin mask of it on your face, not just on the pimples. Use it for at least 5 days straight and then let your face rest for a couple of days, soon it will take its ultimate effect. Yes intense drying will occur, but existing blemishes will stop their inflammation and depreciate. After the pimples have gone you'll prob have red spots so then use a skin renewing product to to heal the new skin (shiny skin). Wash with oil-free Neutrogena before using Trust Me

Pros It cleared up my acne...
Cons ...you couldn't really tell there were no more acne bumps unless you actually touched my skin. My face was red, peeling, and it burned all the time. I hated this product! It was also expensive. Though it worked it make me feel uncomfortable.
Bottom line It isn't so good. Yea, it clears up acne. Bt it also made me peel and get sunburned even when I used 40 spf lotion. It also made my skin shiny and red, so I would have to use makeup, starting the whole cycle over again. I switched to Proactiv. It's alot better.

Pros works extremely well for scar-less acne that are mild and or severe; results visible in 4 to 5 months
Cons temperorily works for treating atrophic/icepick scarring by increasing collagen and tightning the skin; doesnot provide a permanent solution to scarring
Bottom line after taking accutane my skin became extra sensitive; even a small pimple would leave a mark. Overtime, these marks, later classifed as ice pick scars increased and soon covered the upper part of both of my cheeks. derm put me on 0.025% retin and within 3 weeks, my skin became extremely firm and ofcourse very rosy. This was apparently due to increase of collagen, which gives makes your skin firm and tight. So I continued using it for a good 4 months, but gradually its effects subsides as your skin becomes 'used' to it and I have noticed that the 'firmness' and 'tightness' in the skin is replaced by flakiness and blotichness. this makes the texture of the skin look horrible because all of a sudden your scarring looks so widespread. So I am not sure what the next step is from here, but one option is to increase its strength. One thing is though that while on retin-a treatment there are absolutely no acne breakouts. I took it to treat my scars and have so far not been successful.

Pros I can tell my skin will look flawless after a few months. After only a few weeks, I have less than half the acne I had before and my skin tone looks phenomenal. I love it!
Cons Some dryness and flaking.

Pros nothing yet, been 10 days
Cons very, very oily. more cystic breakouts, face very red and burning.
Bottom line I'm not sure how much longer to stay on this Retin A. Stopped using Accutane because my hair was falling out so I will give this a try for a few more weeks then giving up on all medicine. I had enough!!!

Pros Improves acne AND is one of the only topical treatments that makes skin look younger
Cons Initial redness/peeling/increasing breakouts can occur. I personally did not experience these symptoms. Maybe this is because I did not have very problematic skin to begin with...
Bottom line I can only speak for myself, so here goes: I've had mild acne that's continued into adulthood (I'm 25). This is disappointing and unacceptable both because acne is unsightly and, the older I get, the more scars accumulate.
As someone with fair, relatively sensitive skin, I'm surprised at how well I tolerated the treatment, even the beginning stages. Before starting Tretinoin I would get an average of 1 major zit every week (something bad enough that required make-up), plus a smattering of little white/blackheads here and there. Since I started, I have not gotten so much as a PIMPLE. Unbelievable. I just kick myself now I didn't start using this at 16, when my acne problem began to gather steam.
For me there was an initial period of some dryness, but it was barely noticeable and easily reversed with moisurizer. I never went through a worsened acne stage, but I attribute that to concurrently using clindamycin (antibiotic) + BP topical med. I use a sali pad 2X a day which also

Pros clears skin, gets rid of stubborn acne, smooths skin
Cons initial irritation, skin breakout (nothing too tragic), dryness, redness, sun-sensitivity, peeling
Bottom line You have to be patient. I have used this for a month and a half, coincendently the average skin cycle, and I have seen results. It got rid of stubborn acne and smoothed out my skin. When I do get pimples (because of my period) it is not big and unsightly as usual. This time my skin is peeling but again I expected this since this does exfoliate the skin. I have oily skin but I feel that even the gel type is too strong and drying, so I use the cream.

Pros it makes your pimples less imflamed and they heal faster
Cons its dries out your skin and makes your out breaks worse and more often.
Bottom line Ive been on it for a month...cant see a huge difference :(

but I have noticed that if you steam your face, it helps a lot!
I wash my face and boil water with lemon drops in it, then I steam my face, when its done I put Retinal Micro and to me, it seems to be working better. I have tried cetaphil in the past, and it worked really well...I will let you all know the update.

Pros Just started 4 weeks ago and the dry peely stage is over
Cons Not done with initial breakout, but its not much worse than my acne is normally
Bottom line When i first started this product i thought nothing was happening for the first 4 days, but then i started getting dry and peely. my face did hurt a lot and it was embarrasingly peely. Then i started using it every other night and i used purpose moisturizer like crazy, and in about a week the peely hurt stage was over! now i have been using it every night for a little over a week and my skin has ajusted, so i can really start to use it now. I use a benzoyl peroxide wash at night with it because that is what controlled my acne in the past and my skin isnt dry even with that. i also exfoliate every night lightly so that i dont get peely. i know im not supposed to but it doesnt increase my side effects, so oh well! i think this is going to work, i will be patient and give it time, but i can already tell my skin is smoother even though i still break out right now.
