Ok guys and gals. Lets get to the basics: This drug kills bacteria. Folks with acne tend to have increased bacteria so this product works to prevent the bacteria from eventually provoking the acne.
Usage: You really only need to take one pill per day. All you folks taking 4 per day are insane and should sue your doctor. Perhaps 2 per day max! Duration: You will have to take this product indefinitely since your body will not just have less bacteria after taking this medicine for a certain amount of time. Once you stop taking it, the bacteria will be back. Method: Do not take this product with food, specially not dairy products. Take a whole glass of water with it and allow the drug (sit up) to get to your stomach. Effectiveness: It takes about 4 weeks for this product to work its results. The bacteria that was in your system before you started taking tetra has already triggered acne that will come to "fruition" about a week or two later. So you can expect to wait at least 3 weeks until you see the lack of such "fruition" due to the lack of bacteria. For me this product did work, and it also did work on my back which is my main issue. Side-effects: Digestive system issues are unavoidable, it seems. Also I feel "chemically" after I take it for a couple minutes. I didnt notice any sexual side-effects (mid-thirties) but there could be some for certain people.
Overall: Honestly, I really dont want to be taking this drug my entire life. I told this to my doctor and she seemed to be surprised that I believe that one could not just take this drug for a year and then be "done". The bacteria will be back. The best thing to do is for bacteria sufferers to try their best to keep their environment clean and avoid consuming products that generate bacteria in the system. Don't toch your face or pick your zits! You just transfer the bacteria to other parts of your body and continue the problem! Clean your hands every time you come in contact with questionable objects or people. Use anti-bacterial products as much as possible.
As a side note, there are necessary bacteria in the system that perform certain tasks, so this product might have side-effects related to that (stomach, for example).
Go ahead and read up on bacteria and acne, and you'll see that they are pretty much one and the same. The skin just cannot handle the amount of bacteria in some people's bodies and this causes acne.

I've been on Tetracycline for about 3 years. At first, coupled with Adapalene (a topical treatment), I found my acne really started to clear and by January of this year (2006), I had almost completely clear skin with only a few VERY MINOR spots here and there. Because my skin was so clear, I was advised to come off tetracycline for a while. My skin remained clear for a good 3 months after and I thought I was clear. Then it relapsed and my skin is now (as of July) the worst it's ever been. Sadly, tetracycline doesn't seem to be effective at all any more, despite a doubled dose (twice a day) and am visiting the dermatologist soon for an analysis for Accutane.
My support goes out to all you acne sufferers, it's a horrible thing to have and just when you think you're clear, it comes back again!
Best of luck in the fight!
