I have been using this product faithfully for three years, each or every other night. I wash with a prescribed benzoyl peroxide wash and then apply. At first it took my skin some time to adjust and for all the new lesions to come to a head and go away, but then my face, my back, and my buttocks are doing much better.
Any smallmeduim acne is completely gone (I have cystic on back, buttocks and rarely face) and ALL acne on my face is gone, in fact my face looks fantastic.
I always get compliments on my skin and its tone, from EVERYONE and I am a very fair, sensitive skinned blonde. The secret to the redness is to start slow, every other day, give it time and be CONSISTENT. Over time things will balance out.
I also wonder whether people that were having problems with drying have tried applying a non acne producing cream on their skin first, letting it absorb and then applying the Tazorac. I do this if I ever have dryness or itching.
Also, going off and on it is horrible for your skin, so either stick with it or move on to other products. Otherwise you'll always be starting over from scratch and getting all the negatives of the beginning and never get the full benefits of what the product is intended to do. It does fabulous things for increasing blood to the face and if you have problems with broken blood vessels from sun or redness they have lazers that can quickly zap those away with no pain or recovery. This has been a life saver. I have tried EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been using Tazorac (.5%) cream for over 2 years now. It has worked the best of all meds I've tried - and the list is large: OTC meds (Benzoyl peroxide & salicylic acid), Retin-A Micro, Tetracycline & numerous Birth control pills have done no good. My derm prescribed Tazorac for use once per day in the evening all over and Benzaclin for spot treating during the day. The combo made my skin VERY red and peely, but cleared up most of my acne, and my skin got used to it and stopped peeling and becoming so irritated.
I used to get several pimples on chin, above mouth, between eyes & sometimes on forehead all at one time. For the first few months of using Tazorac & Benzaclin, acne was great. The peeling and redness subsided when I stopped using the Benzaclin. 2 years into the treatment, I am looking for something else, or to increase my concentration to the .1% cream. I've started developing acne on my chin again that is quite severe and hard to go out in public with. I'm also starting to peel and get red again, which means I can't really cover the acne with make-up because it peels off. I normally leave the Taz on all night long since I've been using it for so long my skin is used to it, but I wonder if maybe I should use it for only 15-20 minutes and then wash it off like some other people have mentioned doing.
The thought of trying Accutane freaks me out - the side effects seem way to scary - suicide tendencies from an acne medication!?!?! What's up with that? For someone who turns into a bit of a psycho right before my monthly cycle, I can't imagine trying something for acne that has a history of depression & suicide - not to mention joint pain and damage, etc.
Ahh acne is frustrating, but Tazorac has helped me for a couple of years, and that's more than I can say for any other acne med!

Tazorac is the best stuff I have ever used for clearing my skin-- I literally stopped breaking out completely. But It made my skin super sensitive to wind and cold. I live in TX but got married in NJ in Jan, and it was 17 degrees and my skin got totally windburned, so I went to my mom's derm to make sure I looked ok for the wedding. He switched me off Tazorac b/c he said it was too irritating, and put me on azelex. Didn't work-- started breaking out. So he switched me to Klaron, now I get blackheads. I am going to give the Klaron another month, after that, I am going back to Tazorac.
Yes, the first month is rough, and sun and extreme cold are no good, but the stuff absolutely made my skin look clear. I got complements all the time! but it does get irritated...
