I had subcision twice. Once in Dec. 2002 with collagen, and again in nov. 2003 with collagen. I had rolling scars on both cheeks. After the swelling/redness went away (2-4 days) my skin was totally smooth both times. I'd say the effect lasted a good 3 months both times, however my scars seemed to have improved 40-50% permanently...I'm guessing it was the subcision. Now I go in once a year for Perlane (thicker than Restylane). This lasts about 6 months or longer. I must say though; have someone experienced perform the injections. When the doctor did it, the results were PERFECT. Now that the nurse administers the injections she always seems to miss areas, and I have to point them out to her. Overall I give subcision high marks.

It works relatively well in providing a slight elevation to depressed scars. For best results in severe cases you need to have full dermabrasion performed to smoooth it out. Subcision is not very painful and there is really no down time so it's worth a shot in mild to moderate cases, however, ice pick scar do not respond well to subsicion. TCA injections work pretty well for ice pick scars.

I'd like to correct some misinformation: subcision is best NOT for ice pick; but rather for rolling scars as some folks mention. Ice pick scars are quite resistant to subcision as are boxcar scars. For ice pick scars, I have had and recommend punch excision for smaller ice picks and punch elevation for larger scars. For rolling scars, subcision seems by far one of the cheaper, less invasive and more effective treatments out there (I've had punches, alloderm filler, laser and subcision).

I had subcision in combination with laser treatments about 2 months ago. Once the swelling and bruising went down there was little to no improvement.

I saw more improvement from subcision surgery (followed by several treatments of microdrop injections of silicone) than I did from 4 full face dermabrasions and laser surgery. I still have scars from years of cystic acne (and at age 47, my face STILL breaks out), but the larger ones have smoothed out alot and there's an overall improvement. Had alot of bruising that took several weeks to completely go away, but I no longer feel so self conscious about the way my face looks.

I had subcision with restalyne once four weeks ago and then a touch up session two days ago. The first session lasts longer and causes more bruises. Also, it takes about a month for redness to fade and see the true results of the procedure. Two days ago the doctor finished any missed scar areas and plumped up some that needed more injection. Fantastic job on indented cheek scars. Excision works best for pitted scars. Doctor says that no laser treatment is needed for follow up. Cost $400 for total treatment in the Tennesse area.

I had scarring from acne on my left cheek and went through the subcision procedure with one of the world's leading Dr's.
I went through subcision two days ago, have heavy brusing on my cheek and hard red scars. which I assume will fade within a week or so. Noticiable improvement 50%-70%, hard to actually notice with all the brusing. Still have two more treatments, combined with laser treament left. i'd opt for this treatment, after all how much do you value your looks, especially when we live in a world where looks count!

I had icepick scars. I just went through subcision yesterday and I already see about a 75% improvement. My doctor says that subcision works better with icepick scars when it’s alternated with laser treatments. I will be going for a laser treatment in about three weeks. I will probably have another 2-3 sessions of alternating subcision and laser procedures.
One day after the procedure I have one tiny bruise, some red spots from the needles and knife cuts. Word of advice; keep ice on your face for a full day after the procedure.
If you’re in Chicago see Dr. Lack in DesPlaines. Excellent. Very reputable doctor. I’m extremely excited.
