| Pros | so far so good, minimized black and white heads in just a couple days, my skin in not as oily |
|---|---|
| Cons | a little tired sometimes, have to go to the bathroom a little more then usual |
| Bottom line | I have had severe acne for 18 years. I've tried everything. Started clearing up when I turned 20 but then got worst with each child I had. I have been on spiro for 1 week. I still have had some breakouts. However I've noticed that the black heads and white heads on my nose have dramatically diminished. My pores look smaller and my skin is not as oily. I started off last week @ 50mg per day. I move up to 50mg twice a day today and 50 mg three times a day next Thurs. If I see a dramatic improvement this week I might just leave the dosage at two times a day. |

| Pros | Works great clears my skin beautifully, love the diuretic effect |
|---|---|
| Cons | Frequent trips to the bathroom. I don't like the idea of having to be a pills, but it seems to be the only thing that works. Takes a few months to start working. |
| Bottom line | It works great on acne if you can deal with some of the side effects. |

| Pros | I love this drug, works even better than Accutane (for me anyway) due to the mini,al side effects. Cleared skin within a month of taking it, also my hair is thinker. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Tiredness at first but that went away. My sex drive has plummeted though which is a big deal but I'm afraid to stop taking it. Any suggestions here? |
| Bottom line | I asked my gynocologist to prescribe it for my skin and he had no hesitation. My only concern is that I have not had a potassium level test in a year so I think I will do that soon. My hormone levels were normal but I suspected that I was sensitive to testosterone due to my history of oilyness, breakouts and thinning hair. There's a book called The Hormonally Vulnerable Woman that explains this in detail. |

| Pros | Very cheap! Small pill! Helps with cystic acne! |
|---|---|
| Cons | Takes along time to work! Gets worse before it gets better. (at least for me it did) |
| Bottom line | I have been taking Spiro and Metformin for PCOS for the last 50 days.. so about 7 weeks and some odd days.I take 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night. I read alot about Spiro on the internet and all the positive responces that it got from acne suffers. I have had acne since I was 12yrs old. I have tried almost everything including tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, tazorac, diffren, clydimicine (spell), ortho tri cycline, acne free, proactive....just about everything except accutane. The derm said that my skin was not acne was not severe enough for all the side effects of accutane. For the last seven weeks my face has been HORRIABLE!!! It broke out so BAD!! Especially with cysts all on the lower part of my face. I was so devistated I wanted to die. I didnt leave the house for a month almost. Finally in the last week or so my face has calmed down and I have one cysts left but still some red marks. It is starting to get better. Just stick with it! |

| Pros | softer skin but still waiting for acne to clear |
|---|---|
| Cons | no to speak of |
| Bottom line | I started taking this medicine approximately 7 weeks ago. (200mg in am) Although my skin is severely breaking out since starting medicine, the overall quality of my skin has noticeably improved (skin is softer and blackheads have decreased somewhat). Like most people on this message board, I have struggled with acne for over ten years. I will report back once I start to see signs of improvement. |

| Pros | My skin is clear clear clear, plus my jeans fit less tightly. |
|---|---|
| Cons | None so far |
| Bottom line | I started taking this last week. I went to my OB/GYN to see if there was anything going on with my body, but it was "just" hormonal acne. My whole chin felt like one big cyst and every morning a new one appeared. After taking one 25mg pill at night, I woke up with the swelling gone on my "cysts" and I haven't had a new one in a week. I am taking 25 in the morning and 25 at night. I haven't had any side effects either besides a little water/weight loss, which is a plus for me. Try it. I have been on antibiotics for the last 2 years, but for some reason the last 2 months they stopped working. this is the only thing that has helped at all. I went from not wanting to leave the house to being OK with my skin over night. |

| Pros | clear skin, less oily skin, less oily hair |
|---|---|
| Cons | sometimes a little dizzy at the gym if i am taking a step class and have to do a spin. weird, i know. |
| Bottom line | i have taken this medication for 4 months now. it has definitely improved my skin. i am getting comments from people that my skin looks amazing (it never looked amazing before with all the acne) i take a very low dose of only 25 mg/day. i saw results immediately, which is hard to believe, but true. my face is awesome. my back is much improved, but still not perfect. my doctor said i could increase my dosage to see if my bacne would go away, but i am happy with my low dose and am using apple cider vinegar on my back. this medicine works!!!! |

| Pros | It really works!! I've had every type of acne since age 11 (now 38). My skin was near flawless with occasional monthly breakouts until about 2 weeks ago when I had to stop it due to severe dehydration. My skin currently looks worse than ever. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Was taking too high a dose(200mg per day)which resulted in too many trips to the bathroom incl. never sleeping through the night. Often felt fatigued & sluggish, but never (until reading other reviewers) made the connection. |
| Bottom line | I intend to go back on it as soon as I can get back in with my dermatologist. Will try a lower dose & hope for the best. |

| Pros | It's actually working!!!! I've been on Spiro for 2 months and 1 week and it's really working! This is the 1st time in years I finally don't have a break out! |
|---|---|
| Cons | In the beginning, I broke out worse than I ever had!! and I got very weepy around my period, which I think has to do with the hormones |
| Bottom line | I'm 36 and have had adult acne with cyst acne since I was 19. I've tried everything except accutane. I started out with Spiro 25mg 2x a day for the 1st month then the 2nd 50mg 2x's a day+ 100mg of Doxy 2x a day. My acne is always my cheeks and jaw line. I have tons of red marks from picking and I'm going to start Derma-abbrasion but I'm really happy and I just think it's going to keep getting better. IF you try it, get through the bad break out in the beginning, it takes like a good 6 or 7 weeks for the break outs to stop. I feel like my self-esteem is already getting better. |
