| Pros | Blackheads disappered, face less oily |
|---|---|
| Cons | Acne is still not even remotely clear. Have to use lotion a lot more because it dried out my skin. |
| Bottom line | I was put on Spiro exactly two months ago. First week it cleared up my blackheads and made my face less oily. Love that!!! Other then that nothing else has changed. Still get bad flare-ups that hurt and look really awful. I had a follow-up this morning with my Dr. My Dr. says if Spiro were going to work for me we would have seen a lot more improvements by now. So I will be starting a new med. tomorrow. Doxy-something, an antibiotic? Kind of bumbed but still hopeful that something out there is going to work. |

| Pros | Worked after the first month 100mg a day but the 2nd month broke out terribly. It seems to work but maybe this 2nd moth my hormones are adjusting but I am going to stick with it. |
|---|---|
| Cons | 2nd month bad breakout, irregular period and extremely dry mouth and lips. |
| Bottom line | I believe it is going to work and hopefully right now it is just the side effect of getting worse before it gets better. I am also on YAZ birth control. This will be my third month I will give an update at the end of the month. |

| Pros | This is a miracle - it works with now major side effects! This worked in the first few weeks and has kept everything clear since. Other big plus - bigger boobs and really short periods. |
|---|---|
| Cons | The only thing I noticed is if you miss a couple doses a break out is certain. |
| Bottom line | I tried everything for years with cystic acne, even accutane, and nothing seemed to get rid of the acne. If you can't get results with creams or other meds - talk to your derm. about this!!! It works fast, and no horrible side effects. My skin is soft and smooth and I even leave the house without make-up now. Occasionally a little break-out, but no cysts and they clear up in a couple days. Don't mess with all the products that are expensive and meds that are awful. This really is the miracle for your skin that you've been looking for. |

| Pros | Clear up my skin completely!!! Notice difference in a week as old lumps are drying up and healing while no new lumps are popping up. Easy to take the pill before bedtime. Lucky to have minor side effects stated below which isn't a problem at all. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Wake up with a dry mouth and feeling thirsty. |
| Bottom line | I had moderately severe cystic acne since I was a teenager and have tried every oral antibiotics, every topical cream/gels, and even did two 12 weeks treatments of Accutane and nothing worked. The costs of trying every treatments and dermatogists were in the $10,000s. The red painful lumps were constanty there on my face. The old lumps didn't even heal yet before a few more pops up. Besides the pain, I felt extremely ugly and had a hard time facing people as I see them staring at my face full of acne. My definition of being beautiful is just having smooth & clear skin like everyone around me. It wasn't until I was 36 that a gynecologist prescribed 100mg of Spiro as I was breaking out despite being on birth control pills. It changed my life forever!! I have been on Spiro for over 10 yrs now. I was on 100mg for a yr and reduced down to 50mg as maintenance. I just increased my dosage back to 100mg as I'm constantly breaking out again. It has been 2 wks now and my face is clear. Try it! |

| Pros | I felt like I lost weight, It didn't upset my stomach. I actually don't even feel like I am taking medication. I had hardly any of the side effects, but everyone is different. |
|---|---|
| Cons | I did have to pee alot at first, but then I seemed to regulate back to normal. |
| Bottom line | I have had cystic acne since I was 12, I am now 30 and have been on Spiro for about 2 years. I have tried every oral antibiotic, every topical cream/gel and nothing else has worked. I actually get compliments on how great my skin looks....no one even knows I used to have bad skin. I very rarely get cysts, maybe once every 3 months I get a whitehead/blackhead. I love it and highly recommend it. |

| Pros | *started to see a tremendous difference within the first week started off taking 100 mg and increased it to 200 mg the third wk huge difference in oil production, clearer skin, dries out existing acne, reduces breakouts |
|---|---|
| Cons | body aches, headaches, drowsiness, more emotional, pee alot, dry mouth, dizziness |
| Bottom line | im 19 and ive had acne since my early teens. i had just abt tried everything to get rid of the spots on my face, but it just seemed useless. I was really scared to try it out because of the inital breakout, but i just went for it. and believe me if ur acne is hormonal this is the medication for u. trust me. |

| Pros | clears my face up completely, regrows hair |
|---|---|
| Cons | severe dehydration, have to go to the bathroom all the time, sore breasts, have to watch diet, fatigue, muscle cramps (early on), sexual dysfunction, insomnia, hair will all fall out when you stop taking it |
| Bottom line | I've taken this on and off for acne for six years. Bottom line is that it will clear your face up. It may take four or five months at most, but it will work. Unfortunately, I hate the way I feel when I'm on it - just completly exhausted and lethargic. Every year or so, I lower my dose or quit taking it and am amazed at how great I feel. It's like a whole new lease on life. Then my skin starts getting oily again and all my hair starts falling out. By the time my scalp gets really visible, I lose my nerve and start taking it again. It takes several months for my hair to grow back, and the whole cycle starts again. I really hate feeling tied to this drug, but it has worked for my face and it regrew hair for me that I can't keep without it. |

| Pros | IT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY Attacks hormonal acne where it starts Affordable |
|---|---|
| Cons | the day you quit is the day your acne returns Some lowsy side effects the first 5 mths or so (nothing worth stopping treatment over) |
| Bottom line | I have been taking Spiro 50mg for about 11 mths now. Spiro is the first thing in over 10 years to work for me!!! It took 5-6 months to work, which I know is awhile, but it is worth the wait! Now, I get a pimple or two (or none) right before my period. I LOVE this drug. This drug does take several months to kick in (everyone is different). It took me about 6 mths of trial and error, questioning if it was doing anything, and questioning if it made my acne worse. I did not think it was going to have any positive affect on me. In addition, some side effects in the first few months included soar (in a painful way) breasts, irregular periods, dizziness out of nowhere, larger breasts, and just not feeling well in general some days. But these are nothing compared to how happy you will be when this stuff works. Please try this, and if you are on it and thinking about trying something else, please dont stop your treatment. |

| Pros | I had cystic acne - got worse in my forties- can you believe it? Nothing worked then I tried Spiro - I have had clear skin now for 3 months. My doctor said it tends to work better for women in my age group. |
|---|---|
| Cons | None |
| Bottom line | As your estrogen drops, the male hormones takes over as they are more aggressive. Spriro fights this and blocks the male hormomes - finally a way to fight the source - acne comes from the inside, topical stuff does not fight severed acne. So try this, all you ladies out there !!! |

| Pros | Does clear up your skin, but takes about two months. Still get cystic acne on occasion. Boobs have gotten a little bigger, and it kinda helps with cramps. skin not as oily, almost a little to dry. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Its like i have a baby bladder now, you will pee all the time.Boobs may be bigger, but they hurt like a b!*@h! when i first started the meds i got a little shaky, like i had to much coffee. |
| Bottom line | My skin is not where i want it to be yet, but i know these things take time. There is no such thing as a miracle acne pill, i just have to remember that. But i can see results, and others have noticed as well. I have been taking 50 mg a day for two months, and was just raised to 100 mg a day. So i'll just have to see how it all works out. Good luck to all of you taking or thinking about taking Spiro. |
