I've been on Spironolactone for 2 months now and i'm starting to see greate results. I started on 25 mg the first month but i'm now on 50 mg along with Yasmin [from what i hear contains about 25mg of spironolactone]. My skin was pretty oily before using this medication. I'd wash it and then by two three hours i'd have a shiny face and my make up would end up sliding right off! I now feel my skin less oily...pores size and texture seem to be improving as well. I continue the same skin care routine....Dr.Murad Acne line...and well i'm really happy with what Spironolactone is doing for me. I love not having to be worried wondering if i have really shiny/oily skin and having to blot all the time with tissue. You all should try it.

I have pretty bad cystic acne and just started Spiro a week and 3 days ago. I haven't seen a difference, in fact, it has gotten a lot worse. Has anyone else experienced flare ups with this medicine? In the past, Yasmine has worked wonders on my skin, so I'm doing spiro and yasmine along with benzaclin. Praying for healing and wondering if a flare up is normal in the first 2 weeks??

Well I guess I'll jump on this band wagon to express the success I too have had with Spiro. I'm 41 and two years
ago after getting off of the pill I began having pretty bad hormonal acne (zits under the skin, under my chin, down my neck, upper chest, etc). My Derm prescribed Spiro. I'd never heard of it before. The last two years I have taken one 50mg tablet a day with GREAT results!! I have a few breakouts around my period but liveable. When I was at my refill appt with my derm just a week ago she suggested I try and up the dosage to 100mg twice a day a week before my period to see if it wouldn't totally eliminate the pre menstrual acne. So I started taking 100mg twice a day but had some really bad nausea and just felt lousy so have backed down to the original dose. I may try to add a third 50mg tablet each day to see how I do. Side Effects: yes my periods are irregular coming at intervals between 20 and 31 days which I do not like. Make sure your doctor is monitoring your potassium via a blood test at least once a year while on this med.

I've been taking Spironolactone for a week exactly & I feel like it is working already..i'm taking it in conjunction with an antibiotic - minocycline. So i'm not sure which one is really doing the trick, but the acne on my chest & back has almost disappeared. I have a few spots on my face still, but I feel like it is under control. I've tried many things topically, but never orally & so I'm looking forward to see more results from this. I will post my opinion again at a later date. :)

Wow, I'm so glad that I found this site. I have been suffering with Acne for so very many years. I am 32 now and have tried everything including Accutane at 2 different times. The side effects from taking Accutane are awful and I highly discourage anyone to take unless they have extremely severa cystic acne. I went to the dermatologist today for the first time in a few years. I had given up on ever finding something that would work without destroying the rest of my body during the process. I have been using ProActiv and glycolic acid for the past few years, but at an given time, I have 20 or more marks on my face. Having acne is such a blow to the ego and makes me so self conscience in public. I actually cancelled a date yesterday because we were planing on taking a boat ride and I knew the sun would shining on my face and the thought of that made me want to run and hide. I'm actually a very confidant and outgoing person, but when my face flairs up worse than normal, I hate to be around other people. I can live with a few zits and would be happy with that, but I hate the way it is right now. After reading everyone's remarks, it makes me feel so much better knowing there are others out there like me. Thank you for sharing.

My dermatologist prescribed me with Spirnolactone along with my birth control pill that I am already on. He is also going to have me use a topical mouisturizer (I never use mouisturizer) that contains an antibiotic called Klaron. I will also be using another topical cream, Tazorac. These topical things are supposed to help while I'm waiting for the Spirno. to work. Wish me luck!

Good luck to everyone and please find some peace knowing that we are not alone in this!

If you are on Yasmin, you do not need the Spiro. I take Yasmin alone and it cleared up my cystic acne in 3 weeeks. Poof, GONE. No need for the two. Maybe another birth control with Spiro, but Yasmin has the anti testosterone stuff in it already.

My derm prescribed me Spironolactone to use in conjunction with Orthotricylcen lo for my extremely oily skin and breakouts, since I was not reponding to other treatments. My naturopath physician decided to give me liquid Vitamin A with E to get rid of the excessive oil (oil 1 hour after washing my face) and clogged pores, and suggested holding off on the pill and Spiro (which I did). After 5 days of using it (just Vitamin A with E), my skin has returned to normal! Now I only have to wash twice a day! The clogged pores are disappearing! It gets better everyday! I'm so much happier now!
This stuff does the same as the Spiro, as it cuts the androgens, but there are no side effects! Accutane and Retin-A are derivatives of Vitamin A, so it makes sense that this works!
I would suggest seeing a naturopath because they try to figure out what could be causing it and treat it naturally, not just cover it up. I wouldn't recommend self treating with this, as taking too much
Vitamin A can have a negative effect. There is a proper dosing.

I started taking Spirinolactone about one month ago - started with 50mg/day and just upped it to 100mg/day. I also started taking OrthoTriCyclen. So far I have to say that I am very impressed! I have no new breakouts and my skin is finally starting to be normal again. I felt like I had tried EVERYTHING (different antibiotics, retina-A's, topicals, BCP's) and this is the ONLY thing that is finally working! One thing to note: Take this with FOOD!! Spiro gets absorbed more when taken with food, and it helps any upset stomach side effects. Also, remember to drink plenty of water and watch out for foods high in potassium. Good luck to you guys!!!

I have been suffering with acne for about a year. I got it for my 23rd birthday. It's funny because it always appears on the cheek area. And unfortunately it leaves horrible scars. I have used everything from antibiotics, steroids, and the famous proactiv solution. Even many of the OTC products. I have even used Accutane. This was said by my dermatoligist that it would clear everything right up and I'll have beautiful skin in no time. Ha Ha Ha. I used it for five months and saw not an ounce of improvement. I recently was prescribed Spiro and I hope to GOD it works because I feel that I'm running out of options.

from what i've been hearing this is a miracle drug and I am so excited for it to start working for me. I started Spiro about 5 weeks ago (200mg/day) and I also started Yaz (the low dose Yasmin). So far my skin is still breaking out but not as badly as it was before I started the meds. The oil has definitely decreased and is almost non existent (VERY NICE). Moisturizing is definitely a new thing to me.

I had side effects in the beginning (dizziness, nausea, heart plapitations and some anxiousness) so my doctor told me to try 50mg a day for 2 weeks and then work my way back up to 200mg slowly. Now I am on 100mg per day which seems to not cause any side effects other than feeling thirsty. Definitely keep hydrated because if you don't you could feel dizzy. Either way it's all worth it if it works.

I will check back after i've been on this a little longer to give you more of an update on how it is doing for my skin....
