Pros: Very soft skin and hair. Acne improving. Less facial hair. Cons: Scalp hair loss. If it doesn't subside I will stop taking spiro. Some light dizzyness and overall dryness at first. Bottom Line: I started 25 mg per day over a month ago. Almost immediately my skin and hair become really soft. My acne (jaw/chin/back) is improving. However, last week I upped my dosage to 50 mg per day and experienced significant shedding of my hair. Another reason I started taking spiro was because I do have some facial hair - which has improved. But I didn't expect my scalp hair to thin out. Pros: This is BY FAR the BEST BEST BEST!!! I'm soooo happy with this medicine Cons: Well, in the beginning, you break out twice as bad, BUT stick with it. What helped me, was reading these message boards. You can get dizzy. Like when you 1st wake up or when I'm working out, if I'm really pushing it, I'll feel it Bottom Line: I'm 37, had adult acne that started about age 19. I had cyst soooo bad that they hurt, constant break outs, black heads, pimples, always bumpy skin. Started with 25mg 2x a day, then and now 50mg 2x a day (been on meds for almost a year) and I have so much more confidence! I love when I wash my face, (which I use the wash from this site and most.), I don't feel all the bumps on my face. People are always complementing me now. It truely is a miracle drug. Pros: Give it some time but it does work. I've had no cystic acne since using it. Cons: Make spike potassium levels Can interfere with effectiveness of antidepressants Be sure to drink plenty of liquids Bottom Line: I'm almost 40 and have dealt with acne since the age of 10. The last 5 years have the been the worst because I developed cystic acne. After trying different cremes, antibiotics, and cortisone shots; nothing would prevent cysts from developing. I was told to try this as my acne is "systemic." I was skeptical to try it because of the potential side effects but I am glad that I did. I still get small pimples but they are easy to deal with. Pros: Since taking Spiro, I've noticed that my overall oil production has decreased and that my skin feels and looks smoother and brighter. My boobs have gotten a bit bigger and my hair isn't as oily as it was in the past. Cons: I felt tired and a bit achy the first few weeks on the medication. I see a lot of people complain about the headaches, which I also got, but realized that the headaches were a trigger for me drink more water - then my headaches went away. Bottom Line: My skin isn't 100% yet, but I have faith that it will get to where I can be happy with it. My older scars are a bit more noticable now that my skin is smoother and brighter, so I'm going to need to get some peels and dermobrasion done soon to minimize their appearance. I still breakout, but I get one or two instead of 15 or 20 each day now. I'll continue to take Spiro until my dermo finds something else that she'd like to try on me. I'm currently on 100mg a day and I've been taking the drug for 2 1/2 months. If you have hormonal acne or if you've tried everything else (Accutane, RetinA, Solodyn, Duac, Epiduo, Rosac, Minocycline, etc.), try this, it may be the drug that finally helps clear up your skin. Pros: idk think there were any?? Cons: heart pounding, trouble breathing, couldn't sleep at night, and head aches that were horrible! Bottom Line: This medication may work for some people, but as for me it was awful and felt like it could have been life threatening if I didn't stop taking it. I first had horrible head aches so then I took it at night because I thought that would help with the head aches and then my heart started pounding just to get up and walk around the house. I had trouble breathing and if I got up to quick I would get a bit dizzy or light headed. Just thought I would let you all know some possible side affects before taking this medication. Pros: This has made a noticable difference, I have been using it based on this website for approximately 2 months now. I was originally put on 25mg but found that after about 3 weeks I hit a plateau so asked my GP to put me on 50mg. Cons: I feel that after about 2 months I am hitting another plateau, but after reding reviews I can see that this is seems pretty normal and its just about sticking with it. Bottom Line: I am using Spiro with Duac cream, Dermalogica Medibac facewash, Dermalogica active moist moisturizer (oil free) this has really helped with any drying in the skin. Spiro does make a difference, I know longer get painful spots and feel that it can take time as with anything but just stick with it. Taking Vitamin E tablets will help with healing any previous damage done to your skin and of course drinking lots of purified water (which I intend in doing more of) . Pros: Took a good 6 months to really work but now I have great skin Cons: Bad initial breakout - sleepy and had to go to the bathroom lots during the first 2 weeks Bottom Line: Sprio has worked great for me but you have to have patience!! I broke out badly a couple of summers ago even though I was using BCP and RetinA for a few years. Intially Sprio made my acne so much worse, I wanted to cry. After a month I went back to my Dermo and she put me on Bactrim to help with the IB. I saw improvement in about a month and after about 10 weeks I was clear (was and still am using BCP and RetinA), I started at 100mg and have stayed in this dosage. After about 6 months I dosed down on the Bactrim and stopped it completely a few months later. Now I never break out, My skin is the best it has ever been. The key is patience and working with your derm to be at a high enough doseage for Spiro to be effective. If you aren't seeing any improvment after 3 months, ask to bump it up. Pros: Cheap as chips, minimal side effects (once used to it) minty flavour! Cons: makes you a bit dizzy at first or when you up your dose. Seemed to make things a little worse in the beginning. Bottom Line: Well i still need more time on this, but after 3 months on 25mg, 50mg, then 75mg, (1 month each) things have been better with regards to oil production. I can wash my hair every two days instead of every day and my face is not slick with oil like it used to be. my skin goes through cycles. Sometimes it is flawless then i get another breakout which can take a while to heal. I am taking 100mg a day now and hope this may just fine tune it. I have had great results on diane35 but can no longer take it due to migraines so this was my 'other option'. we'll see how it goes from now on! Pros: easy to take, doesn't cause weird skin changes (like rashes, redness, flakiness, which i got with differin, benzoyl peroxide) Cons: i'm kind of concerned about the long-term effects and how long i can take it for/ what will happen if i stop taking it...as for side effects, i do notice that i am urinating more frequently but i don't have any problems with needing to go at night Bottom Line: I'm taking 50 mg a day, I'm 23 and have had acne for 10+ years, I'm also taking BCP and using Duac. This medication is amazing (or maybe it's the combination of sprionolactone with duac?). I was given the prescription 4 days ago and i have not gotten a large pimple since then (I have gotten a couple very small whiteheads that disappear after a day or so). Further, I forgot to wash my face one night (and my makeup/ dirt/ oil from the day was still on my face), and this usually means a bad break out, but I haven't! I do feel slightly more winded/ tired, but nothing unusual. I can still do light exercise (walking, bike riding) without any problems. My only concerns are about long-term use/ dependency, and how it might affect my kidneys, although my derm told me that there are no serious effects, especially since my dose is so small (50 mg)... Pros: none yet Cons: more periods, dry skin Bottom Line: can somebody pleaseeee tell me how long for spiro to start working? I have been on it for 1 month already, and see no major results.
