Proactiv Solution Reviews
People have asked me about Proactiv® so much that I decided to try it so I could give my feedback. I found it to be surprisingly irritating and utterly ineffective. However, Proactiv is on the right track in recommending benzoyl peroxide, and specifically recommending it in 2.5% strength.
Where I think Proactiv veers off track:
- Cleanser: The Proactiv Cleanser contains scrubbing beads, and Proactiv recommends washing for 1-2 minutes with this cleanser. I am quite stunned at both of these oversights. It is absolutely vital to avoid irritation when treating acne, especially inflammatory acne—the kind most of us have. Scrubbing beads, and washing for this amount of time introduces unnecessary and damaging irritation, perpetuating the acne cycle.
- Toner: I think the Proactiv toner is fine, albeit unnecessary to achieve clear skin.
- Treatment: Over my 20+ years of benzoyl peroxide research and experience, I have found that for benzoyl peroxide to completely clear acne, people must apply it generously. “Use a lot!,” is my simple mantra. It is amazing what this simple act will do toward achieving completely clear skin. Unfortunately, Proactiv packages its treatment in a 1oz. container. The small size of Proactiv ’s treatment bottle leaves people skimping and often disappointed in results. Next, Proactiv combines their benzoyl peroxide treatment with moisturizer. One of the main reasons benzoyl peroxide works so well is because it is a drying and peeling agent, which helps prevent clogged pores. For this reason, it is a good idea to apply benzoyl peroxide without moisturizer, and let the benzoyl peroxide do its thing for a few minutes (5-15) before introducing moisture. Unfortunately, you don’t have that choice with the Proactiv treatment. Lastly, the treatment is heavily scented. I personally avoid scented products because they must be applied right under the nose, and tend to linger and leave me feeling a little nauseated throughout the day.
My suggestion: To completely clear acne, it will prove far more beneficial to buy a gentle cleanser without scrubbing beads, a large, unscented 2.5% benzoyl peroxide medication, and a non-comedogenic moisturizer. Then follow these steps precisely to achieve completely clear skin.
If you currently own Proactiv Solution products, don't throw out the Repairing Treatment. If you can handle the smell, it should work in a pinch, as long as you are generous with it. I would not recommend using the Proactiv cleanser. I would also forgo the toner until you’re completely clear. Then feel free to add it in if you’d like and see how things go.
As a final note, I am thankful that Proactiv hires celebrities to talk about acne. This helps reduce stigma, so thumbs up on that!

| Pros | There is NONE. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Expensive/Waste of time |
| Bottom line | To start off my acne isn't even bad to begin with, but I do break out constantly due to stress. What amazes me is the fact that this product is everywhere! TV walmart, target etc. and it is HORRIBLE. Bottom line is this "life changing revolutionary acne treatment" is a waste of time and money and to be honest Due to my crazy schedule, I have zero time to actually sit down and write a review for a product but I had to do it for this one because THAT'S JUST HOW BAD IT IS. |

| Pros | Mask kinda works. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Everything |
| Bottom line | I have been using Proactiv since I was 12 years old, faithfully believing that one day it may cure my acne. All lies. I have horrible cysts, black heads, and white heads. The only thing that somewhat works is the spot mask and it only reduces the size of the cysts by a little. I would never recommend Proactiv to any one and I have wasted thousands of dollars over the years on this stupid gimmick. |

| Cons | Dries skin out EXPENSIVE!! Harsh for any type of skin Ruined my skin!!! |
| Bottom line | In the beginning it was just a few little bumps here and there on my forehead and jawline so I decided to try Proativ. At first it was pretty good but after about 2 months my skin had actually gotten worse and worse, and it ended up making my skin have full-on acne breakouts!! I say this is a scam and I do not recommend it, please save your money and just see a doctor, trust me, you won't regret it! |

| Cons | extremely dry skin red marks flakyness your face will hurt nothing happens |
| Bottom line | well i bought proactive because my class mates claimed that it would work wonders in three weeks,, i am very patient but not when my face is in pain,,, this regimen was so harsh ,,in five uses my skin was completely flaky and irritated i also felt like i could not smile with out being in pain..i do want to get rid of my acne but i felt that i would rather do it the long less painful more gentlle way rather then shredding my face,, at one point my face was so dry that when i rubbed my nose against my black sweater it left a white line which im guessing was my skin ,,i got creeped out when i realized my face could substitute for chalk and discontinued using it. |

| Cons | Made my face SO MUCH worse. The exfoliating face wash made my breakouts multiply in patches. Awful. I even used it for a substantial amount of time thinking that my skin would get used to it, or that it might have to get worse to get better, but nope, only got worse. Also, they charged me for the trial package and another after that even though I returned both within the time. |
| Bottom line | DO NOT use proactiv. Products that I like that are much better are: Peter Thomas Roth, Origins. I've tried a lot of products and lines and truly ANYTHING is better than proactiv. |

| Cons | everything, including their billing frauds.. |
| Bottom line | I ordered the online trial kit for 19.99, and it didn't suit me as it was too harsh, so they sent me a gentle formula which didn't do anything and rather increased the breakouts..so I never used any after a couple of weeks. They called me to ask me how it was and I told them that it doesn't suit me so don't send anymore product. However, they kept sending me the 3 months supply and I sent the packages back every time. Now because I didn't get any refunds and kept paying monthly from my credit card (automated payments) I asked them about the refunds... and they flatly refused saying that they didn't get any packages back!!!! Even when my post office confirmations showed 'delivered'. My only mistake was that after confirming the delivery of the packages I lost my postal tracking receipts as I thought the work was done. They are asking me for delivery conformation numbers after 4 months of delivery in order to get me any refunds..!! I think these are their new tactics to collect money from people as they completely ignore your requests of not sending any shipments or closing the accounts and keep sending the products and then not give us any refunds... Be careful people, don't waste your money on these accounts, if you really want to try it buy it from your mall, their are proactive counters in every mall these days.. I've learned my lesson the hard way! |

| Pros | It works for the first few weeks. BIG RIP-OFF!!! |
|---|---|
| Cons | Skin starts to get worse after a while Very expensive |
| Bottom line | Do not start using it. The first few weeks your skin starts to clear really nice. But after that initial period, the skin start to get "use" to it and it seems like you need to apply more and more times. I started out every other day and then daily. My skin got so bad that I ended up using it twice a day. Finally I stopped using the product and my skin starts cleaning up by its own at least a little bit. (Going to try the baking soda scrub!) |

| Pros | clears blackheads on nose, and smoothes skin because its a good exfoliator. |
|---|---|
| Cons | uneven skin tone, makes pimples worse |
| Bottom line | I had the odd 2-3 pimples on my face, and really annoying little bumps under my skin, and I bought the 3 step system thinking it would easily clear it away. 2 weeks into using it, my skin was absolutely awful but I kept using it thinking it could only get better. 3 months down the track and $140 later there were hardly any improvements. At risk of sounding like i'm sponsored by garnier, I switched to a $13 bottle of their 3 in 1 wash/scrub/mask, which after one week cleared my skin, and now at the 3 week mark I'm really happy :) The most annoying thing now is that I have dark acne spots left over on my forehead and around my mouth, so i've been using bio-oil to get rid of them. Point is, don't waste your money on proactiv, it might work for some people, but if you don't see an improvement in a month, don't continue it- I read reviews similar to mine before I tried proactiv, thinking my skin would be different, and I wish I hadn't..!! good luck!! |

|---|---|
| Cons | The steps, the cost, the tim, the smell and the results. |
| Bottom line | Do not buy this product! I have only used it for about three weeks and I still keep breaking out. Try finding another solution to your acne problem because this one definitely does not work! |
