I buy the repairing lotion separately and use it for my BP step of the regimen. It's the only thing that hasn't clumped with my moisturizer. Last time I read the product recommendations for the regimen, it said gels didn't cause clumping, but every gel causes it for me. Even Dan's BP clumped. Definitely don't use it without moisturizing afterward, though. The proactiv instructions say to do that, but if you do that, your skin might be really dry.

Pros

  • works on pimples

Cons

  • hard to buy separately
  • moderate
  • for more than a year
  • $ 15
  • I recommend using this treatment.

I used the proactiv system for over a year, then one day I noticed my eyes were puffy (and I never put it near my eyes). After stopping use, it is 2 years later and I tried using a different 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel for acne around my mouth and on my jawline. Again, nowhere near my eyes, but my ENTIRE face was swollen the next morning and my eyes looked like they had been through 10 boxing rounds. Swollen for 3 days! I am horribly allergic now, and can't use any benzoyl peroxide at all, anywhere. Will have to stick to AHA or salicylic acid.

Pros

  • worked at first

Cons

  • MAJOR chemical burn, allergic reaction after months of use, now react to ALL benzoyl peroxide in any product. Makes my face puff out and eyes swell shut.
  • moderate
  • for more than a year
  • $ 30
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

Cons

  • works ok, but not enough
  • more hype than results
  • moderate
  • for a few months

My skin was sticky all the time. I wasn't sure whether it was this product or the moisturizer. I changed treatments, not moisturizer, and the stickiness went away. So I know it was from this. Plus, it BURNS! Not worth the money.

Pros

  • It is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, the correct amount according to acne.org

Cons

  • It burns
  • It dries tacky
  • It didn't clear up my skin much
  • moderate
  • for a few weeks
  • $ 10
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I gave proactiv a try again last summer and all it did was make my acne worse for me. People always say, everything gets worse but then it gets better. Lies! Proactiv made my face the worst it has been in my entire life.

Pros

  • none

Cons

  • 1. it burns
  • 2. it's very drying
  • 3. it's not a lightweight lotion and feels sticky
  • 4. most of all, it made things 10x worse.
  • moderate
  • for about a month
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I tried the three proactiv products on two occasions. It didn't help at all. Strangely, Dan's BP has worked. Just stating facts.

Pros

  • None

Cons

  • It made things worse
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I have been using this for many years. I absolutely love it. I recently tried dans BP, which made my skin Peel all over. For me this lotion clears my acne and is not overdrying. I prefer lotion BP to gel BP.

Pros

  • Clears acne
  • 2.5% BP
  • Lotion and BP in one
  • Not as drying as other BPs
  • Fairly inexpensive

Cons

  • Very small bottle
  • moderate
  • for more than a year
  • $ 20
  • I recommend using this treatment.

-Just use this product with a facial brush like DermaNew resurfacing brush! These products made such a difference for me!! I have been using Proactive for over 5 years--don't know what I would do without it. But I think this lotion works the best for me out of the whole kit.

-Yes I still get pimples--but the bacteria fighting ingredients in this lotion keeps them to a minimum & reveals new, smooth, and healthy skin---especial when I use my DermaNew brush!! I just added this brush to my routine a few months ago & my skin is even better than before! Less breakouts & no flaking skin!!

-Then just add a thin layer of jojoba oil for a little more moisture & supple skin--I have oily skin but it doesn't make me more oily promise! :)

Pros

  • -love this lotion, have used it morning & night for OVER 5 YEARS!!!
  • -Clears acne fast
  • -reduces inflammation & redness of pimples

Cons

  • -can be drying but...
  • use a facial brush like DermaNew resurfacing brush & another moisturizer like jojoba oil after! Thats what has worked for me!!
  • moderate
  • for more than a year
  • $ 12
  • I recommend using this treatment.

BE CAREFUL USING THIS PRODUCT. The instructions on the bottle are so misleading! It says to apply a 'layer' which is really not a good idea if you have dry or sensitive skin. It does however say to test it before use which is a really important thing to do because this product can leave your skin incredibly dry and irritated. I also use the proactiv cleanser which also contains benzoyl peroxide but the repairing lotion seems a lot harsher on the skin. Every so often for about a week I applied really small amounts to blemishes and it worked very well - but I then stupidly decided to apply a 'layer' to an area of my face, around my chin. The proactiv pamphlet says the repairing lotion should be applied to any area to 'PREVENT' so this is what i did. My skin became INCREDIBLY dry. For about a week, every morning I would apply layers and layers of moisturizer but no matter how much i put on my skin was still dry. I had never seen it so dry before in my life - it was flaky, kind of cracked in some areas so the skin around my chin was almost in sections. I had to start using a really thick clinique moisturizer but i had to put so much on that the dry skin kind of soaked it up so that my skin was kind of left with the yellow tint.

There are also quite a few youtube videos about this product where they say you can just SLATHER on the repairing lotion and leave it overnight. Really not a good idea.

Although its extremely harsh, it does work quite well for me when used in very small amounts so i would still reccommend it. However, there are other products out there that work just as well, such as tea tree oil, which will not leave you with incredibly dry skin.

Pros

  • Gets rid of pimples quickly

Cons

  • Leaves skin very dry
