As a teenager I never had acne. In my later teens, I was on triphasil (similar to Ortho regular). Then, when I turned 22, I got worried about the high hormone levels and switched to Alesse. OMG - it was terrible. My doctor kept telling me that my acne was not hormonal. She prescribed topicals (which never worked). I have acne which is considered on my forehead; I was (kinda still am) a walking target. I felt uncomfortable in social situations and often would break down and cry upon seeing picture of myself or catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror.
So, now I'm 25. Finally, I put my foot down and asked for a different birth control. I even asked for Ortho regular as my best friend has had great results. She prescribed Diane 35 as she said that it worked better. However, when I got home and looked it up on the net; I realized that Health Canada had a warning on it. Needless to say; I swtiched doctors. I got a prescription for Ortho Regular. During the first two weeks, I broke out a little more than unusual, but since then, it has been improving. (Its been just over 1 month). My skin doesn't feel as oily as before. And my boobs are a lit bigger. The only downside is mood swing towards the beginning of the cycle. I'll keep you guys posted.
Thanks for your comments ladies; its a comfort that I'm not alone. While my mom has always taught me that beauty isn't everything, its hard to argue that acne shouldn't affect your self esteem. And isn't that what counts; self esteem?
Cheers to month 2!

I was on Ortho Tricyclen for 3 years and never had one problem...I never had breakouts, only the occasional small bump which would go away after a day or two.
I stopped taking it about 7 months ago, but started again last month. Within 2 weeks my forehead and chin were covered in small, itchy, painful bumps. Its been about a month now and they still have not cleared up. I expected that they would form whiteheads, but theres nothing, just deep, painful bumps!
I started taking it again last night (after my period), hopefully its just a reaction and will begin to clear up (???).
I wouldn't NOT recommend it, b/c it worked well for me for 3 years, but maybe my hormonal balance changed when I stopped and started again.

honestly, when my face started seriously breaking out 7 months ago i didn't even consider that it could be because i had switched to ortho tri lo, I take it for contraceptive reasons and didn't consider that birth control could effect my skin so so much! i started getting little bumps all over my chin and awful redness and whiteheads...before taking the lo i was on ortho tri and my face and complexion were perfect, it was lovely but was expensive w/o insurance so i had to switch - when i started taking lo i also moved to another state and thought it was more an issue of weather/sun, stress, or a reaction to the soap and medication I normally use for acne - which it very well could be - still, I considered my bad acne to be from anything BUT the switch to Ortho Tri Lo; however, after hearing all these bad acne reaction stories to ortho tri lo im definitely going to switch back to ortho tri and see if that was a significant reason my skin became such a problem, even if it IS more expensive... I wish I had stumbled upon this website sooner!!! i've been everywhere and tried two different dermatologists and they never said anything about ortho tri lo being a factor in my bad skin, they just prescribed more chemicals to put on my face...at least this leads me in another direction...there's still hope...
