| Pros | Shorter Periods Less Cramps |
|---|---|
| Cons | Didn't clear my skin Expensive Caused yeast infection |
| Bottom line | At first my doctor (not a dermatologist) prescribed me with Ortho Tri-Cyclen LOW for my acne. I was on it for 6 to 7 months and it did not improve my acne at all. When I went back he gave me a higher dosage which was the regular Ortho Try-Cyclen. Again not much of an improvement in my skin, around my period time I'd still break out. Not as much as before but still very noticeable acne. After a while I started noticing itching after sex and a lot of clear orderless discharge. I panicked and went back to my doctor, apparently the pill had caused me to get a minor yeast infection which was not good at all. I stopped taking the pill right after and the yeast infection went away almost immediately. I also tried the generic brand which is a lot cheaper its called TriNessa as well did not work. For acne I absolutely do not recommend it especially the regular Ortho Tri-Cyclen since it cause an infection. But the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Low I recommend if you want shorter lighter periods without any cramps but again not for acne. |

| Pros | Pregnancy Prevention Clear skin No more cramping Light, short periods (mine last 3-4 days) Crazy sex drive Super reliable No weight gain Predictable periods |
|---|---|
| Cons | Taking it once a day (tend to forget) Although forgetting a pill has never failed me. |
| Bottom line | This birth control pill is perfect for me. I've been taking it for over a year now. I've tried other kinds that just don't cut it. Trinessa is the exact same if you have that. Never once failed me even if I forgot a day or two. Cleared my acne. Took away my tear inducing cramps. Made my periods lighter and shorter; about 3 days long. I have a crazy sex drive that I fulfill once a day, or maybe I'm just young and horny, who knows. :) Either way, it keeps my boyfriend happy. It may not work for you, just keep exploring your options. Everyone is different. |

| Pros | Less Acne Crazy sex Drive Slightly Bigger Breasts (naturally big so I can't really tell if they got bigger) |
|---|---|
| Cons | Very Minor Headaches but I think that's because I'm just dehydrated. Feel Nauseous sometimes but that is because I'm too much in a rush to eat food with the pill in the morning. Possible slight weight gain but that's not a problem. |
| Bottom line | Remember to ALWAYS drink A LOT of water and eat food with the pill! Water is the answer for everything! If you are having really bad side effects, it's probably because the dosage is either too high therefore your body isn't used to it or because you are dehydrated. I'm almost 17 years old. I haven't really had any side effects. If i did gain weight its not much to worry about for me because it isn't much of a difference and i can maintain my weight pretty well. I love ortho-cyclen so far and been on it for half a month. I thought i would've had very bad side effects just because that is my usual luck with anything oral, especially oral acne medication like doxyclen and minocyclen with major headaches and minocyclen actually turned my gums gray! It looked like i had gum disease! I'm glad i researched it and found out that it's a pretty rare but possible side effect. Regardless any pill is usually an antibody and antibodies are meant to kill bad things but also kill essential good bacteria! Orthocyclen has made my boyfriend really happy and we couldn't have more of an amazing sex life! We are both glad we can know we can have sex anytime with me being safe. P.S. the only reason i rate this 4 out of 5 is because I just really hate taking pills and putting anything into my body. Anyways, it's really not that hard to remember taking it because if you love your pill, you love the idea of just being protected; so trust me - You'll remember every day! |

| Pros | Clear skin Birth control |
|---|---|
| Cons | Weight gain Bloating Recurring yeast infections |
| Bottom line | One of the better BCPs I've tried in terms of side-effects. The major ones for me were 5-8 lbs. weight gain, feeling bloated, and awful recurring yeast infections. BUT, my skin was crystal clear after a few months of being on Ortho Tri-Cyclen and I experienced no mood swings or other serious side effects. It is also inexpensive if you have health insurance. If it weren't for the yeast infections, I'd probably still be on this pill. Of course, one's reaction to hormonal birth control is highly individual, so I can neither recommend nor not recommend. You just have to try it and see for yourself. |

| Pros | Pregnancy prevention Larger breasts Predictable periods Affordable/ Inexpensive |
|---|---|
| Cons | No sex drive Tender/ sore breasts Extreme nausea Severe Headaches Depression/ crazy mood swings Bloated stomach No change to acne |
| Bottom line | I have been on these pills for exactly 1 month now and it has been absolutely terrible for me AND my spouse. Planned Parenthood first put me on Seasonique (which was amazing compared to this.) But, my sister suggested Ortho Tri-Cyclen since I wasn't comfortable with Seasonique only allowing me to have my period once every 4 months.. OTC has just been the worst decision ever. Within 1-2 hours of taking it.. CONSTANT Nausea, headaches, etc. Not to mention a couple days after taking it I began feeling very depressed... and let me tell you, my husband makes me a happy woman but dang.. these pills are ridiculous. My sex drive has completely diminished.. it just doesn't exist anymore. Everyone is different, I would suggest at least trying it, but if at ANY point you begin to feel severe symptoms such as myself, please stop taking them and switch brands. The main reason I chose this brand was because of my acne.. which hasn't changed a bit. |

|---|---|
| Cons | Uncontrollable appetite Anxious and depressed feeling Breast soreness Bleeding Cramps |
| Bottom line | Overall, I've felt like I've had bad PMS every day since starting this pill. My emotions are all over the place - one minute I'm fine, the next I'm crying and barely want to leave the house. My skin hasn't cleared at all, and in fact, might even be worse than before. My breasts are painful and I had a few days of intense cramps. I think the worst has been my appetite, though - hunger and bad cravings even after eating a meal. |

| Pros | Not Pregnant |
|---|---|
| Cons | Worst acne breakouts of my life Constantly Nauseous Very Emotional Depressed No sex drive |
| Bottom line | I gave this pill a 4 month run and the end result is that this pill is horrible! I've gone from the happiest, most outgoing person, to really sad and depressed. I finished a pack yesterday and will NEVER go on this pill again. I constantly felt sick, and the thought of alcohol was intolerable. My face went from a pimple every now and then to severely broken out and my sex drive was non-existent. DO NOT take this pill!! |

| Pros | Cleared up acne Lighter periods Predictable periods Not pregnant! |
|---|---|
| Cons | First month is pretty rough |
| Bottom line | The first month I had pimple breakouts, nausea, and severe headaches, but the second month was much better, and now in my fourth month using it, I don't have any bad side effects. My periods used to be very heavy and completely unpredictable, but now I (obviously) know when they start and I can even use Lite tampons on most days. My face completely cleared up also. |

| Pros | Pregnancy prevention, acne control |
|---|---|
| Cons | Headaches, mood swings, irritability, breast tenderness, weight gain |
| Bottom line | HATE IT! Got a new prescription today! It worked for 3 months then it all went down hill from there. Terrible cramps and heavy bleeding did not stop, I have horrible headaches between the last hormone pill and the placebos and then again when starting the hormones at the end of my cycle. Ive gained weight and cannot get it off with diet and exercises. This is the worst pill I've ever been on. |
