Pros good
Cons none
Bottom line I been on nicomide pills for a few days and it seems to clear up my skin. I used to take antibiotics but since that has many side affects my derm told me to stop taking it. Nicomide is more natural and contains vitamins so it's kind of like a natural way to heal the acne.
Price paid $30.00

Pros soothing, evens skin tone, reduces (eliminates?) outbreaks, great for sensitive skin
Cons none
Bottom line I've been using niacinamide for a month, and I am amazed. My skin is extremely sensitive - I break out or get flakey skin from nearly any OTC product. In fact, the only thing I can use on my skin is apple cider vinegar, diluted to about 20:1. Then I found some references to niacinamide on [link removed], and figured I'd try it (I've tried nearly everything else). I haven't had a break-out in 2 weeks, and my skin is looking more 'soothed' and mono-toned (I had patches of reddish and yellowish skin).

The product I'm using is called 'metazene' from LifeLink. It uses aloe vera as the base, which may explain why it is soothing.

I also notice a correlation between acne and sugar (most fruit is ok), but that is for another topic :).
Price paid $15.00

For those of you on Freederm - go to your doctor for a prescription of Nicam gel. Exactly the same thing, over twice as much for less money.
Freederm - £9 for 25g
Nicam - £6.50 (script charge) for 60g.

I find it can be quite drying, but use of moisturiser clears it up nicely. I think it might have reduced spots a bit. I'll wait and see how it manages long term

I'm using a topical application prescribed by my doctor called NICAM (nicotinamide 4%) and at present my face is very sore and itchy. It is early days but very very painful. The topical gel also makes the spots dry up and turn quite scabby.

I get outbreaks of spots in the winter. As much as the sun is bad for the skin it does wonders for acne in the summer. About a week ago i brought Freederm (Nicotinamide 4%) as a replacement for Dalacin topical solution as a test. I think my acne has improved slightly. My skin is constantly dry which makes my acne look bad sometimes but hopefully my skin will heel. The dryness is irritable but i dont seem to get as many spots as before.

I take this in the vitamin pill form as well, called Nicomide. Whenever I mention this pill people always say "I didn't know you smoke" like I'm on something to help me stop smoking. Which got old real quick. Then I tried to add that it was a type of vitamin and had folic acid in it, then people think I'm pregnant or something. Not really a side effect, but I thought I would share. :)

Anyway I didn't feel that this did anything for my skin, but it was really nice since I didn't have any side effects, it was a lot more natural than most medications. My derm dr said it would take a longer time to notice results, but I also switched drs.

The whole bottle cost something like $18 from the pharmacy which was nice. I had to take it twice a day, and I could take it with other medications. I was also on a topical medication while using this, but my acne is stubborn.
