The original works...not sure about the generic yet..

Pros:
  • The orignial Nicomide cleared my up after while, but they discontinued it due to sales and now im taking the generic equivalent. Hey SHELLY how long did it take for you to see results and are you taking the generic of the original Nicomide tablets?
Cons:
  • Generic is taking a long time to work. It's been over 2 months and no real results.

Helped a little bit in the beginning but overall not satisfied. I had light to moderate acne before and now 5 months later not much has changed. If you can get it cheap I guess it won't hurt, but definitely not worth the money and hassle.

Pros

  • The first few months it helped with the severity of the pimples but not so much in the number

Cons

  • Stopped working all together after the first 3 months. Expensive even with insurance and my pharmacy always has to order it in so I have to make sure to order it way in advance.
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 40
  • I do not recommend using this product/treatment.

I'm a 27 year old male, and it had gotten so embarrassing trying to be a professional with my skin. Anyway, stick with the treatment for AT LEAST 3 months before assessing your results. It took me over 3 months to see full results, but the painful, cystic acne that was unstoppable on my forehead is finally gone!

My regimen is as follows:

1 tablet nicotinamide with breakfast.

finacea 15% in the AM (highly recommended)

1 tablet with my dinner.

PM differin gel and more Finacea

99% clear!

Pros

  • Works

Cons

  • Take with a big meal. It can make you nauseous if you don't.
  • Takes a long time to start working (3+ months). Stick with it though. So worth it.
  • moderately severe
  • for a few months
  • $ 10
  • I recommend using this product/treatment.

It works!! It's cheap (for those are paying for a prescription, all the components of the prescription are available at chemists as vitamins for much cheaper). Start slowly (just break up the tablet), and work up your dosage.

Pros

  • Nicotinamide works! I've been taking 500mg/ day that I bought in a vitamin shop for cheap. I had adult acne with nodules on my neck underneath the skin. I can't believe that this got rid of them! My neck is now really smooth. Also it completely cleared up my chest acne, and the acne on my cheeks seems to be clearing.

Cons

  • I had a weird reaction to it for about the first 4 days of taking it. I basically got flu-like symptoms minus the sore throat and runny nose (i.e. my whole body ached, I slept most of the day, terrible headache). I lowered my dose initially, but kept on it because I was so desperate for something to work. Fortunately, it did!
  • I think this side-effect is pretty rare, it took me ages to find out about any one else who'd experienced this on the internet.
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 10
  • I recommend using this product/treatment.

Is just the cure for acne.

  • Taking the 700 mg pill about 1 year now, amazing i don't have more acne!
  • I did everything, from accutane too levulan, light...everything you can imagine.
  • Almost had no more hope.

Cons

  • NONO!
  • moderately severe
  • for a few months
  • $ 35

I have been taking this pill and noticing that my face is clearing up. But it's hard for me to swallow the pill. I've tried breaking it in half and taking it but it's still hard for me. Does anyone know if its ok to crush the pill completely and put it in food or water?

Pros

  • I've noticed my face clearing up.

Cons

  • The SIZE of the pill.
  • moderately severe
  • $ 10

I've only been on this for a month or so now but, before I was on Solodyn which gave me horrible chest pains. I'm likin' this cuz Im not experiencing any pain or side effects at all. So far my face is doin' great! But that could also be from the help of the Solodyn. Either way, I'm not missin' those chest pains!

Pros

  • My face is clearing up nicely. Hardly no side effects at all.

Cons

  • Taking it twice daily, size of pill.
  • moderately severe
  • for about a month
  • $ 10
  • I recommend using this product/treatment.

i take this twice a day orally. Not sure if this is the main cause of my improvement because im on like 2 other gels. Easy to take and seems to be working already. If you have good insurance its sooo cheap.

Pros

  • Less breakouts and havent had any cysts...makes pimples go away faster.

Cons

  • none
  • moderately severe
  • for about a week
  • $ 3
  • I recommend using this product/treatment.

I went to the derm and was trying to get on accutane. She said i needed to fail another antibiotic before i could get accutane so i was like whatever i'll take doryx, even thought i hate antibiotics. i told her that i was interested in a more natural approach to helping my acne so she prescribed me with nicotinamide. at first i started taking te nicotinamide with the doryx, but about 2 months in the doryx left me with cysts all over my chin. so i stopped and just started taking the nicotinamide and no my skin has really cleared up. i don't know if its gonna last, but for the time being it looks much better.

Pros

  • helps reduce redness, no harsh side effects

Cons

  • none really, i was really surprised with how well it worked
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 10
  • I recommend using this product/treatment.
