I purchased this product on the recommendation of a friend because I was experiencing a flare up of my acne. At the time I was battling one or two stubborn cysts. I am now desperately trying to treat several more that won't go away and just as I think one is healing, another appears. Some are returning in the same exact location. I believed that I was building a resistance to oral antibiotics but now think that this product is contributing to the problem. I do not recommend it.

Pros

  • Feels refreshing
  • Smells nice

Cons

  • Skin is much worse
  • Cystic breakouts all over chin
  • moderate
  • for a few months
  • $ 65
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I had light acne prior to using this product and wanted to find a good acne treatment that would get rid of my acne once and for all. I saw this kit in Sephora and thought why not? First week into the treatment, my skin cleared up. Second week and beyond, my skin broke out like crazy. I stopped using this after a month and is still suffering from cystic acne breakouts 3mos later. My skin is currently starting to get better, but it's only b/c of the antibiotics &cream my dermatologist prescribed.

Pros

  • Smelled nice.

Cons

  • Caused cystic acne and scarring on cheeks and jawline--- areas I never had acne before using treatment!
  • Resulting breakouts were constant and continued to last through months after quitting treatment.
  • moderately severe
  • for about a month
  • $ 30
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

You can get stronger products in the store. Neutrogena makes products with salicylic acid. They make a gel that's 1% stronger then murads. Also neutrogena makes cleanser that's 0.5% stronger then murads. Cheaper then murad with no shipping and handling. If this doesn't work go to a dermatologist.

Pros

  • Doesn't stain clothing like benzoyl peroxide.

Cons

  • Is not strong enough for me
  • moderately severe
  • for about a month
  • $ 29.95
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I'm surprised to find so many negative reviews on this product. So far Murad has been the only product that treats my acne effectively. I've been using it for several years now and it keeps me 90% clear. I still have the occasional break out which is usually hormonal or if I'm using a cosmetic that doesn't agree with my skin.

If this system works for you I recommend buying the full size versions of these products. They are economical and last a very long time.

Pros

  • Gentle
  • Effective
  • Clears skin

Cons

  • Purging phase
  • Takes 4-6 weeks for skin to clear
  • moderate
  • for more than a year
  • $ 36
  • I recommend using this treatment.

used this when i was younger... still have scars from the horrible acne and scabs it gave me. i used it for a couple of months, and at that time my acne was moderately severe. the spot treatment is what caused the burns, scabs, and now scars, they have faded, and are gone with some makeup, but i have one above my eyebrow that i have cut bangs to cover. I did not apply too much, it just caused a horrible reaction. also, my skin never stopped "purging" even though i was on it for a little under three months.

Pros

  • cleansed well
  • toner was nice

Cons

  • spot treatment left terrible marks behind
  • moderately severe
  • for a few months
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

I've been using the complete set of Murad Acne Complex for over 2 YEARS now.For about the first 6 months I saw some improvement ( about a 30%-45% decrease in acne- and I had black and whiteheads). But afterwards for the next year I didn't see much of an improvement and felt that it had hit a plateau. And up till now (for the past 6 months) it has only gotten worse.I have twice as much acne as before and I'll occasionally will get cystic acne (something I NEVER had before). Also the wash smells like a combination of oranges and acid, and the leave-in spot treatment smells strongly of sulfur.Besides the untreated acne, the smell has to be second-most embarrassing.I would try to use the spot treat all over my face in hopes of reducing my acne, but those around me (when near my face [hugging, kissing], or even when I laid on a pillow) would complain of the smell. A bad-smelling face should NOT compensate for acne treatment.

Unfortunately I'm still using Murad until I can find a cleanser that works.I'm thinking about trying Black African soap, and if that doesn't work I'll try going back to Proactive - Yes PROACTIVE, something that I stopped using 5 years ago due to it being too harsh. But I feel that I have no other choice. I'd rather have a dry face than one that smells so bad I can't be near my friends.

The only time I would recommend this is if you have LIGHT acne and is suffering from a flare-up, and I would only recommend the cleanser and the moisturizer. And when applying make-up you would have to wait about 10 mins for the moisturizer to absorb in the skin.

I felt like I wasted two years of my life and now I don't know where to go concerning my face.I would visit the Derm, but last time they only gave me a bunch of random topical medicines that left my face extremely irritated and when they prescribed me Minocin I was constantly sick (nauseous, stomach cramps, dizziness) and left me with a very ODD case of skin discoloration.Tha

Pros

  • may clear light acne for a few months
  • cleanses
  • moisturizer is creamy and light

Cons

  • leaves skin looking aged
  • cleanser, toner, and leave-in spot treatment smells horrible
  • after a few months moderate and severe acne would return
  • cleanser isn't strong (takes two washes for me to remove makeup)
  • moderately severe
  • for more than a year
  • $ 60
  • I do not recommend using this treatment.

Okay, everyone is complaining about the purging stage. The truth is, this happens with almost EVERY acne treatment you'll use. It's the hidden stuff coming up and your face adjusting to the change. It takes a while to adjust to and everyone reacts differently. After using the product only once, my face started to break out a little..However, in the spots where it was clear, you could tell that those spots were actually cleaner. You can feel both the 1st and 2nd step working while you apply it. My face still hasn't cleared up, but I'm still in the purging stage and I have hope for this product, honestly. I know it will work out in the end. You shouldn't lose hope either. I got this product at Sephora for 27 dollars; 25 with my mall discount. If you want to buy this product, you can find it cheap, I'm sure. I got the entire package. I will update my review once I get past the purging stage.

Pros

  • Refreshing feeling, noticeable change, really feels like it works.

Cons

  • Purging stage, stings a little, smells weird.
  • moderate
  • for about a week
  • $ 25
  • I recommend using this treatment.
