I have cystic acne on my chin that is really really stubborn. My derm prescribed minocyn to be taken three times a day for three days, then two a day for 3 days, and then down to one a day for...indefinite amt of time i guess. BUT i developed severe dizziness and really bad stomacheaches after just one dose. So i went off it, my brother and sis both used it and found it worked great for a while, but the symptoms came back as soon as they went off....

, As a teenager I never had a problem with acne, it was only after turning 40 that this problem arose, Minotab Worked well for me, acne never came back for months so stopped taking (Minocycline 50 mg) tablets. Acne mostly under control now, only get breakouts if I eat junk food now.....

I had a severe reaction to Minicin (form of Minocycline). I'd taken Tetracyclin throughout High School and College, but it didn't do much. The derm put me on minicin and told me it was like super tetracyclin. I took the medicine for less than one week and developed severe hives. We're talking welted places the size of your thigh and 1/2 inch high. My head swelled so much that my ears looked like they were inside my head and I couldn't open my eyes. I ended up having to get epinephrine shots for several days. It took 6 weeks for all the hives to go completely away. Because of using tetracyclin for years to fight acne, I developed allergies to this classification of medicines and now have many problems with allergies to antibiotics. Use caution with this stuff! It can really screw up your body.

Minocycline 100 Mg worked remarkably well for my skin condition, but after 3 weeks of taking it, I developed a very bad rash all over my body. The rash was red, very itchy and welted! I couldn't sleep at night, and I scratched all day. Finally, I went to the emergency room, was given prednisone, and a prescription to relieve the itching. The ER doctor recommended that I stop taking Minocycline, and I did. My rash went away within 2 days.

I took Minocycline for a little over a year. At first it worked extremely well - completely cleared my skin, and for me produced much less sun sensitivity than other antibiotics. After about a year, however, I developed discoloration that looked like large blue-grey bruises on my shins, and a faint brownish spot on the tip of my nose (which fortunately looked more like a shadow from most angles, and wasn't too visible). I also noticed that an old scar on my shins discolored a blue-grey. All eventually faded dramatically after discontinuing the minocycline - but it did take approximately 7-8 months for the discoloration to fade.

After spending ridiculous amount of time and money trying to self medicate my bad skin, I was prescribed minocycline with differin gel by a dermatologist. It worked great as long as I kept using it, but as soon as the prescription ran out, there it was, back in all it's glory. That's when I found this site. I used the bp gel and the eucerin aha for about two months and not only did it clear up my skin, it has remained clear, even though I'm not using the bp any longer.

I have been on Minocycline 100 mg, while using Brevoxyl 4% face wash and Differin gel for about a year. My acne cleared up quite well, but when my dermatologist tried to give me 50 mg, my acne came back with full force. Also, within this one year, I've also had to battle with two vaginal yeast infections because of the antibiotic. I may have to switch to something else.
