my doctor told me my acne would get worse before it gets better. it did the getting worse bit alright.... its just the getting better bit that this medication struggles with... and, really, that is the thing you are actually taking the drug for :O

I loved it, I used it with Differin gel and it helped me sooooooooo much. My acne was really really bad, especially after using neutrogena pore refining and pricking, but it cleared me up, and now i can actually go out without makeup.

For three months, I stuck with this regimen and I saw such reults. I broke out in terrible hives and even though it was quite a nuisance, I stuck with it anyway, hoping to see results. I guess it wasn't such a good idea as it's been a month since I stopped and I still have the occaisonal hive. But my dermatologis put me on Retin-A and doxycycline, so hopefully we'll see something from that combo. He wanted to try accutane but I reconsidered after seeing the side-effects.

I got Minocycline around winter 2003-2004, and it's VERY AFFORDABLE if you have insurance, and after about a week I started noticing amazing results, and my acne became very managable with using Minocycline and ProActive. But, when my face became completely clear, I slacked on taking the pill, and eventually didn't take it for 4 months...BIG MISTAKE! It took a couple weeks for the zits to start coming back, but now my face is TWICE as WORSE as it was before... and I have HORRIBLE DISCOLORATION left by the zits that do actually go away... I even HAVE TO WEAR TINTED ACNE TREATMENT/MAKE-UP TO COVER UP the SEVERE REDNESS ALL OVER MY FACE... BUT, I have just started taking it again...no results yet, I just hope that I'm not immune to it now!

Minocycline was quite effective, but after a few years my joints were so inflamed I could barely function. I ended up going to several doctors and they had me undergo a liver biopsy because my enzyme levels were high. Turns out that was because I was taking huge amounts of Advil (which I told the doctors) to cope with the pain. Two months after I first started seeing the rheumatologist he told me to stop taking the minocyclne because that might stop the inflamation. Well, it took six months for the minoclycline to get totally out of my system. So please beware; just because your doctor says it's ok doesn't mean it is.
