Pros Haven't experienced any side effects
Doesn't matter how near to food you take it.
Cleared me up.
Cons It didn't work on its own - needed Duac alongside it for it to be strong enough.
Its effects have just seemed to wear off, I guess.
Bottom line I was first prescribed minocyline around 18 months ago. It took a while (couple of months) to get working, but it did clear me up. I stupidly thought it would be OK to come off it, and thus experienced a very nasty breakout.

I went back on it and was clear for another 3-4 months. Now, it just doesn't seem to be working. After this round I may give it up. I use it in conjuction with Duac, but I don't know anymore - I'm worried I'm resistant to it. Plus I've been taking it a while, I want to give my body a rest.

Pros Mildly cleared up my acne
Cons Still have bad breakouts every few weeks
Bottom line I take 200mg a day and I still break out pretty bad a few times a month. I'm looking to try a new medication. I'm going to try birth control because I think my breakouts might be hormonal...

Pros Has cleared up red, angry skin. Can take with food. Blackheads have improved.
Cons Had some headaches the first week, but adjusted afterwards.
Bottom line Definitely recommend. I've noticed some people said they were on 200mg per day and felt ill - always contact your doc - My daughter has been on 2 x 50mg a day and although she had some headaches the first week, she's fine now. The improvement in her acne is amazing - it's been three weeks and it's settled down so well. Previously used Doxycycline for 3 months and did not have as good a result. We are using this in conjunction with Epiduo gel every night (Adapalene/BP combo).

Pros Cleared up acne and body acne
Cons I started getting too many side effects
Bottom line I still had some acne after taking this for 1 month so my dermatologist told me to start taking 100mg twice a day instead of once a day. I started getting extremely nauseous after this so I went back down to 100mg, but the nausea didn't go away. When I first started taking it I got extremely dizzy and had horrible headaches for about a week then my body adjusted. I also had indigestion problems for a while. This does do a good job eliminating acne, but for me the side effects just weren't worth it.

Pros - small pill easy to swallow
- can be taken with food!
Cons -dizziness
-initial breakout
Bottom line I've heard great things about this product, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.
Heres what happened:
Even though I'm in the 100lbs range I was prescribed 200mg per day. I've read on a couple of sites that the recommended dosage for my weight range is about 45mg per day.
I had just gotten off of doxycycline because it stopped working on me. I developed some kind of yeast infection, so because of my overload on antibiotics ( I was on doxy for a year) minocycline didn't work on me!
I got a breakout after starting mino and was dizzy all the time.
Unfortunately, I had to stop using it because I had finals coming up and I couldn't handle the side effects.
These side effects are more common in women than men. Maybe I'm just one of those women that can't handle the medication, maybe the dosage was too high for my weight. Or maybe since I already had a yeast infection it was a bad idea to continue using antibiotics. There were a few things working against me there. I hope those of you who try it have better luck than me.

Pros it cleared my face up slowly but it did its job in about 3 months i had really bad acne
Cons Face sensetive to light
have to eat non dairy foods with the pill and wait two hours to eat dairy products.
Bottom line It worked for me. It all depends on what your dermatologists tells you he put me on it with acuzone its a gel to wash your face and now i just got scarring but im happier now. All the side effects were for me were that i would get dizzy and my face was sensitive to light any type.

Pros stopped much of breakouts, pimples which did appear were not as deep or painful
Cons did not have significant effect on body acne
Bottom line i took minocycline for a little less than two months - please do NOT take this medication for longer than a few months, because it can built up resistance and that's not a good thing.

this is a very good medication for people who want to clear up their breakouts and give their skin a chance to recover from constant acne.

i stopped taking this about two weeks ago, so i'm not sure if my acne will reappear, but so far my skin has been great. it's the best it's ever been in the last year (about a year ago i started getting more severe acne), and so far it's only been getting better... even after i stopped taking the pills.

HOWEVER: i think that part of my improvement might be attributed to a no-milk diet i have been trying. i used to drink milk a lot; every morning i would have cereal with milk and then usually i'd have another glass throughout the day. i recently stopped drinking all milk (but i still eat my usual amount of dairy products) and i really feel like my acne has significantly improved. i urge everyone to at least give this a try... it can't hurt.

Pros Seemed to have cleared acne
Pill form, so you don't need to deal with nasty lotions
Cheap
Cons Made me break out in hives all over my body
Made me very itchy
Bottom line I had been using this for somewhere between one and two months and it seemed to be helping clear my acne but then one morning I woke up and I was really itchy all over. This went on for about a week or two and then one day I took a nap and I woke up and my body slowly began to become covered in hives! It was the scariest thing! This happened twice, along with other times of only small areas being puffed up.

So how am I sure it was this medicine? Couldn't it have been a reaction to laundry detergent? Well, I went to the allergy doctor and got tested with a hundred scratches all over my back and it came up that I was allergic to cats, dust mites, and mold. But I told him that I had recently started on this new prescription and he seemed interested so he made an extract to test me with and I came back a few days later. He did a smaller test and it made my skin puff up right away where he injected it. I was allergic.

Just because I was allergic, doesn't mean everyone will be so I said I WOULD recommend this product because it seemed to be working as far as acne went. You just may want to consult your allergy doctor and have him make an extract to test you with before you put this in your body, because my experience with it was horrifying.

If you suddenly become itchy one day, discontinue use immediately, because this means you are allergic.

Bottom line Made my acne worse with cystic pimples. Made skin super bumpy and distrusting. Made my skin REALLY dark without even being in the sun. Minocycline sucks.
