| Pros | Cleared up my acne! Saw SIGNIFICANT improvement after 2 months. Skin was completely clear after 4 months (note I'm also on Diane 35 and using 2 topical acne creams). I experienced NO side effects!! |
|---|---|
| Cons | Took over a month to see any results. Can't take it within a few hours of calcium and iron, which I found inconvenient. It was also inconvenient to stay out of the sun for long periods of time. Oh, and yeast infections. Tons of em. |
| Bottom line | Be patient! It WILL take more than a few weeks. But it's well worth it. I took one pill on an empty stomach before going to bed. Maybe this is why I didn't experience some of the common side effects (nausea, dizziness). I was sleeping! The only side effect I experienced was yeast infections which is common for any longterm antibiotics. I finally got those under control, and I recommend natural remedies for anyone having recurring yeast infections (you can find tons online). My acne never got worse during the course of this medication. It only improved. I now have 3 weeks left of the 6 month treatment, but I felt I could have ended it at 4 months! My acne is gone. See note above--I am using 3 other prescriptions (diane 35, steivamycin, and clindoxyl). This undoubtedly helped. Maybe ask your dermatologist to take an aggressive approach with several meds. Cost me $70 without a prescription plan, $7 with a plan. |

| Pros | This actually worked for me |
|---|---|
| Cons | You definatly feel sick |
| Bottom line | I know allot of people will use a product and if it does happen to work the dont go back to these sights where they once looked for some kind of cure to let people know. Minocycline actually worked for me! It took about two months to start seeing results. Now im weening off of it and am still seeing good results. I was very reluctant to use it but once i gave in as a last resort it helped allot. Dont be close minded about it despit what you hear. Good luck to all |

| Pros | Easy to take. I take it twice a day. I have a lot of hope in this product. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Seems to be making my acne worse...It has created small bumps all over my forehead, and larger breakouts on my chin. Im disappointed with it. |
| Bottom line | Is it normal for this product to make you break out worse before getting better. My derm told me by 8 weeks, my acne scars and all new pimples shouldnt exsist. Im worried that this product is giving me adverse effects. Does anyone know more about this?? |

| Pros | Helps with redness and formation of pimples, helps complexion. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Loss of appetite, nausea (if taken without food), tiredness, dizziness |
| Bottom line | I think minocycline would have completely cleared me of acne if i was able to finish the bottle but unfortunately i had side effects from day one. Also, if your acne is caused by hormones, the minocycline will help but once you finish the minocycline your acne will probably return. You need something that controls your hormones long term. Birth control for acne is better than antibiotics in long term use. I would recommend treating your hormones first then if you see no improvements, treat the acne as bacterial. |

| Pros | Free with insurance, twice a day pill. Gets rid of redness. Less white heads |
|---|---|
| Cons | Can't take with milk. Extreme dryness and peeling. Patches of red bumps occur. Itchiness. No major improvement so far. |
| Bottom line | I have used this for about a week now, 50mg twice a day with two ointments to go along with it. I'm 16 and woke up after two days of taking it and my whole face was like snake skin. It was horrible. I also had big patches of red areas. Went to school and got made fun of. Doctor says it has to get worse before it can get better. |

| Pros | It clears up the acne, very well. 2 pills / a day (50mg each pill) Prevents acne from coming back You do need a treatment plan with a doctor if you REALLY want it to work. |
|---|---|
| Cons | It can make you sensitive to sunlight It does take around three to four weeks to really start having effects, and you really can't skip a pill or a couple days, else, you're screwed! |
| Bottom line | This antibiotic is not meant as temporary treatment. It needs to be taken with a treatment plan to ELIMINATE your acne for ever. Therefore, you need to take this medication twice a day (minimum), over at least 6 months to a year, maybe even more. You need to persevere and believe in this product so that it works. I combine it with Clindoxyl Treatment medication, to treat small flares and to act locally on random zits. |

| Pros | - Inexpensive! In Australia 60 x 50mg tablets (enough for 2 months) cost $20.00, which is very affordable for me as a student - noticeable effect in reducing breakout occurence and severity (if they do occur) |
|---|---|
| Cons | - I have not experienced any side effects, but they can include headaches, nausea, fever etc. (side effects occur in a few people with every medication) - should not be used with some medications including retinoids (such as retin-a and tretinoin) |
| Bottom line | I have tried a number of treatments for my moderate acne, including Yasmin BC. This was effective in controlling my monthly hormonal breakout, but minocycline has been most effective in month-long control. I now have much clearer skin, with occasional very small pimples, which never develop into anything larger, when they previously would have become worse. If you are concerned about your skin, I would suggest paying a visit to your doctor even if you don't have severe acne - there are many prescription and non-prescription treatments you may not have considered which they can recommend to you. This product has worked very well for me. |
