| Pros: | Prevents severe cystic acne as long as I take it every day. Prevents impetigo and staph. |
| Cons: | Sensitivity to sun, skin discoloration. Cystic acne reappears immediately if I stop taking the minocycline for a couple of days. |
| Bottom Line: | I've been on minocycline for several years now and it very effectively keeps my cystic acne, an all other acne, at bay. Prior to minocycline I always had at least 1-2 very deep cysts that would last for weeks at a time and often become infected and leave severe scars. Now I probably get 2-3 cysts per year, no infections and no further scaring. I was also very prone to impetigo and staph infections on my face and I haven't had one since I've been on minocycline. Minocycline is a godsend for me.
Oddly, side effects started after I'd already been taking mino for 3+ years. I'm now extremely sensitive to the sun-- developed severe sun poisoning last summer and had to go on prednisone for a week. I kind of have a permanent tan now. Dependency and antibiotic resistance is also a concern.
Bottom line is: my cystic acne was severe and now my skin is clear. So I'm willing to tolerate side effects. |

| Pros: | Has worked really well for me when paired with differin cream :o). I had very light acne on my chin, shoulders, and back and everything is about cleared up after about a month of taking this twice daily. |
| Cons: | I've had no side effects, so I don't really have much against this medication. |
| Bottom Line: | Good for people with light to moderate acne. I would suggest Accutane for anything severe, and I'm sure a dermatologist would, as well. I've tried tons of things for my face, i.e: ProActiv, the Clinique system, several scrubs, etc, and this has been working perfectly for me! |

| Pros: | Semi stops new acne from forming. |
| Cons: | -Have to schedule around eating. -Makes you think you will get amazing results -I have been MAD tired every since I have been using it. |
| Bottom Line: | I dont have like severe acne, it is just VERY consistent, but with Minocyline I still have been breaking out with new pimples. But not as many pimples. Although I only been using it for two weeks. And I am on a 50mg once a day, and I dont think thats enough. So today Im going to derm. for a higher MG. |

| Pros: | It works while you're on it. |
| Cons: | Conditions come back as soon as you come off the pills. |
| Bottom Line: | -Doctors and Derms hand out antibiotics like candy. -Try other methods preferably natural remedies before trying antibiotics. -Only take oral drugs if the case is life threatning. -Take care of your body. Change your diet, exercise daily, and stay away from drugs. |

| Pros: | NONE. Does not clear acne, blemishes, zits, etc. |
| Cons: | Makes you hella tired, false hope, makes you feel SICK, dellusional and depressed, INCONVENIENT (must eat 2-3 hours after or 1 hour before taking), detrimental body effects overall...WASTE OF TIME |
| Bottom Line: | False hope. Tried tetracycline first. Neither worked. Minocycline made me sick, I had to schedule my eating times around it just so I could get the optimum results (which were none). WORSE PART is they made the sclera of my eye look pigmented/yellowish/not normal, made me break out in hives on my legs after a few months, and were a WASTE of TIME. I stopped taking them a while ago but I don't kno if it will help my eyes since taking any antibiotics for a prolonged period is never heatlhy. But I was desperate.... |

| Pros: | clears skin nicely |
| Cons: | Acne returns with disuse, bad pigmentation of face (make sure you stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen). Makes me feel confused and a little out of touch with reality when under stress. |
| Bottom Line: | Great for clearing mild persistant acne, side affects pretty full on. |

| Pros: | Inexpensive, have not had one zit since starting this medicine a month and a half ago!! |
| Cons: | side effects...dizziness, blurred vision, pigmentation, makes you feel really tired (even though I had side effects I would take these any say over breakouts) |
| Bottom Line: | I had mild to moderate acne. My skin only broke out around my mouth and chin and usually just once a month. I began this medication and at first it made me really dizzy and made me feel sick and nauseated. I continued to take it and within a week it was much better and my acne began to slowly go away. I don't think this medicine will work if you have bad acne butI think it is a "quick" fix for someone who just breaks out once in a while. I also had severe back acne and it totally cleared up in about a month and a half. I have noticed that my face may look a little blotchy ane maybe not as smooth as it shouldbut will take that anyday over acne!! I would say try this medication and just give it time. If you have bad acne I would say Accutane is your answer!! |

| Pros: | Made my acne disappear within 2 months after I began taking it twice daily... For the first time, I could have the option of NOT wearing makeup. Was very pleased with the results |
| Cons: | I went off of it because one day I had terrible stomach cramps after I took it like normal. The acne subsided and then returned about a month later, full blown and worse than before. I have hyperpigmentation of my scars and new acne forms daily |
| Bottom Line: | I was off of this medication for about 2-3 months. I had moderate acne and it is now severe. They form mostly around my jaw and chin but don't limit themselves to anywhere else on my face! I also have eczema and immune system issues, plus I have taken many antibiotics over the past 4+ years. I loved this medicine, tried so many other topical treatments (proactiv made my skin break out MORE, which was I had to take minocycline in the first place) and then when I started to take it again, it would almost immediately dry out my skin and turn them into crusty hard bumps. Then I began to feel more and more nauseated each day and have EXTREME fatigue and lightheadness, my skin is turning colors (yellow) and I am glad to know others experience the 'zombie' feeling too. This medicine is RUINING MY LIFE! |
