Pros: works well Cons: my skin is starting to itch! Bottom Line: I used minocycline years ago and it worked really well with absolutely no side effects. Now I'm 42 and using it again (middle aged acne AND wrinkles -- life is truly unfair). Anyway, I've been taking it for a few weeks and started having weird itching episodes that are random and come and go... Very odd. Not so bad that I'd stop taking the minocycline, but we'll see how it goes... Recommended: Yes Usage: Jennifer has used this item for a few weeks. Pros: No side effects. Cons: It didn't work at all. Bottom Line: I was on a three month treatment course and my skin didn't clear up at all. I have constant breakouts, blackheads all over my nose, and occasional cysts. None of this cleared up. On the other hand, I didn't experience headaches, nausea, or dizziness. I think it all depends on your specific body chemistry. I was prescribed this by my regular physician, not a dermatologist, who I don't think was very familiar with acne problems. Pros: Helped clear up acne for a little bit. Cons: Severe nausea, dizziness, vomiting and diarrhea. Bottom Line: NOT WORTH THE SIDE EFFECTS. I ended up back at the doctor to treat the side effects they were so bad. Also, as soon as I quit taking it, the acne came right back. I would rather have bad skin! Pros: -reduced the oil production within 2 weeks -skin slightly cleared up after 2 1/2 wks Cons: -face didn't clear up, it only lasted about 2-3 wks and the acne came back -ridiculous headaches/dizzy which interfered with my activities of daily living -nausea, disturbed sleeping pattern, aromatic taste/odour Bottom Line: i wouldn't recommend this antibiotic but since it's for a month maybe it's worth a shot for some people. I guess you'd be lucky to get through the medication without the killer headaches and dizziness. Recommended: No Usage: Susan has used this item for about a month. Pros: My skin cleared up like magic within 2-3 weeks. Cons: side effects: sensitive to sunlite, toenails are turning purple, dark patches on my skin that won't fade (almost a year later), horrible headaches, stiffness in my hands, and now my hair is falling out. Bottom Line: Mino works amazingly well. My skin was so great after the first 4 month course, I thought I was set - but as soon as I stopped taking it the cystic acne came back. I'm now on month 3 of another 4 month course and the side effects are showing up - I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE WHAT WAS GOING ON UNTIL I READ OTHER PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES HERE. The dark toenails - I thought I'd banged my toe, the stiff fingers/joints - I thought I was developing RA or just getting old, the violent headaches - random, and went away after a month so I never connected it to the mino, the dark patches on the skin - I knew that could happen, but figured it was worth it for good skin. Now my hair is starting to fall out - I'm done. I'm going to have to find something else. I'm really upset becase it worked so well and I'm terrified to go back to having acne again. But the side effects are too much and I know after a year of taking it they get worse. Not worth purple teeth. But if you don't get side effects - it's awesome. Pros: Seems to really be working well. Tried many, many creams, but none work so my doc switched me to an oral antibiotic. So far so good. Insurance covered cost... Cons: Makes me a bit dizzy, but not for long. Bottom Line: It seems to be working so far, so I'm going to stick with it. Recommended: Yes Usage: Kenneth has used this item for a few weeks. Pros: cheap, no noticable side effects Cons: doesn't work Bottom Line: Has not made any noticable difference at all! I have severe break outs (hard red lumps, and white heads) every 1-2 weeks consistantly and this drug has not reduced length or severity of breakouts. Pros: my inflammatory cystic acne cleared up in 2 days Cons: it s an antibiotics, a mild one, but still ... made my vaginal flora more sensitive a bit dizzier than usual Bottom Line: It s the 2nd time I m following a 3 months minocin treatment. My acne problem started when I became a broadcaster for TV. I have to wear HEAVY foundation all day long. Within less than 2 months, I started develop cystic acne which would go on and on (especially around my period). I tried everything I could find here OTC, went to see 3 different dermatologists, even tried Proactiv (got it imported from the States). Nothing worked. I was REALLY desperate. Till, by pure chance, a plastic surgeon recommended me minocin. Cleared up everything in a couple of days. I also use Differin every evening, and did a laser treatment to get rid of the scars. In the first 6 weeks, I would have the occasional zit or whitehead, but easily removed, leaving no marks. Globally, my skin stayed clear for more than a year after I stopped. I still have the same job. The same inflammatory cystic acne is slowly getting back, so, I resumed taking minocin. Same positive results.
