| Pros: | clears skin nicely |
| Cons: | Acne returns with disuse, bad pigmentation of face (make sure you stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen). Makes me feel confused and a little out of touch with reality when under stress. |
| Bottom Line: | Great for clearing mild persistant acne, side affects pretty full on. |

| Pros: | Inexpensive, have not had one zit since starting this medicine a month and a half ago!! |
| Cons: | side effects...dizziness, blurred vision, pigmentation, makes you feel really tired (even though I had side effects I would take these any say over breakouts) |
| Bottom Line: | I had mild to moderate acne. My skin only broke out around my mouth and chin and usually just once a month. I began this medication and at first it made me really dizzy and made me feel sick and nauseated. I continued to take it and within a week it was much better and my acne began to slowly go away. I don't think this medicine will work if you have bad acne butI think it is a "quick" fix for someone who just breaks out once in a while. I also had severe back acne and it totally cleared up in about a month and a half. I have noticed that my face may look a little blotchy ane maybe not as smooth as it shouldbut will take that anyday over acne!! I would say try this medication and just give it time. If you have bad acne I would say Accutane is your answer!! |

| Pros: | Made my acne disappear within 2 months after I began taking it twice daily... For the first time, I could have the option of NOT wearing makeup. Was very pleased with the results |
| Cons: | I went off of it because one day I had terrible stomach cramps after I took it like normal. The acne subsided and then returned about a month later, full blown and worse than before. I have hyperpigmentation of my scars and new acne forms daily |
| Bottom Line: | I was off of this medication for about 2-3 months. I had moderate acne and it is now severe. They form mostly around my jaw and chin but don't limit themselves to anywhere else on my face! I also have eczema and immune system issues, plus I have taken many antibiotics over the past 4+ years. I loved this medicine, tried so many other topical treatments (proactiv made my skin break out MORE, which was I had to take minocycline in the first place) and then when I started to take it again, it would almost immediately dry out my skin and turn them into crusty hard bumps. Then I began to feel more and more nauseated each day and have EXTREME fatigue and lightheadness, my skin is turning colors (yellow) and I am glad to know others experience the 'zombie' feeling too. This medicine is RUINING MY LIFE! |

| Pros: | very effective in treating moderate acne when taken consistently, capsules are tasteless and no extra time spent in the bathroom applying expensive creams and moisturizers. |
| Cons: | causes some side effects though these are more common (up to 60% so) in females than males, its efficacy extends only a few weeks beyond treatment (aka. its not a cure). |
| Bottom Line: | As a pharmacist I know there are endless choices for prescription acne therapies. Minocin remains one of the best options if a topical antibiotic, antibacterial (benzol peroxide, etc.) or Vitamin A derivative Isn't effective or possible. In terms of bacterial resistance Minocin is a far better choice than Keflex or Zithromax as these antibiotics are critical in treatment of other conditions.
Accutane remains the last line of therapy ( in Canada) and is rarely prescribed to young women due to the astronomical incidence of fetal defects. If you are bothered by side effects of Minocycline think very hard before considering Accutane.
I've tried combination topical therapies without much success but am very satisfied with Minocin; It remains the standard for oral antibiotic acne treatment with good reason. |

| Pros: | cleared up my acne by 75% |
| Cons: | its expensive if you don't have insurance.
it makes u drowsy and depressed.
some ppl suffer really bad side effects |
| Bottom Line: | it cleared me up. i noticed improvements after about a week, but i've been using it for 2 months now and my face still isnt clear like it used to be. abt 2 months ago my face broke out like mad for the first time in my life, and the mino really helped calm it down and reduce the breakout BUT even after 2 whole months, my skin is nowhere near clearr.
i really think my acne would have healed the same amout with time and patience...it wasn't really necessary to go on the antibiotic. i was hoping for a miracle cure, this IS NOT a miracle cure...it doesn't even keep away ALL the pimples...i havent has a major breakout but i still get pimples and around my time of month it gets pretty bad again.
also, antibiotics are NOT good for you because once you stop taking them your ance can come back OR you could develope candini...minocycline did not work well enough for me. HOWEVER, it is different for everyone...it could work wonders for you. i did clear me up, mostly, but it took time. |

| Pros: | none that i can tell.. just made my skin less oily for a couple days but that was it. |
| Cons: | LOTS OF PIGMENTATION!!! made my skin look worse than it did. now im not allowed to go in the sun because it'll make things worse. note that minocycline and all of the -cycline antibiotics may result in pigmentation and even tooth discoloration. |
| Bottom Line: | use something else if you can. |
