| Pros | -Cheap If you have insurance, was free for me. -Kills Bacteria preventing new pimples/acne -Anti_Inflamatory effect, reduces the redness of acne. Capsules look awsome (just sayin) |
|---|---|
| Cons | Side effects will come. Yay :) I have been on minocycline 100mg twice daily for about a week. -Doesnt work right away -I have experienced extreme diziness after 4 days of use -Sense of uneasiness -Today developed significant fever/cold -Extremely hard to get to sleep(couldnt't sleep until 1am second day of use and had an exam to write early the next morning, fun). I hope this doesn't result in insomnia cause i still can't sleep properly and am always tired -Headache |
| Bottom line | So basically been on it for a week, havent seen much of an improvement other than the fact that the redness of my acne has been decreasing. Also no new pimples have formed but i think thats cause i have stopped eating bannanas. Im already sick of the side effects because it is interfering with my school, but hey il basically do anything to clear my acne cause im tired of having it. My main concern is extreme diziness/spaced out, i can't even explain it, my heads just always spinning, pretty weird. I Just hope it works and my acne FINALLY stops ruining my life, if not then accutane to look forward too, even better. Hopefully it just takes awhile to really kick in.. Will update in a few weeks on progress. Have a good one and good luck with mionocycline and acne. Acne sucks lol |

| Pros | Does the job for the time being No side-effects Reduces redness |
|---|---|
| Cons | The pros are gone as soon as you stop taking it Antibiotics are not healthy Not a lasting solution |
| Bottom line | Minocycline gets the job done when used properly. I have mild-sever acne and after trying everything for years, I finally decided to give it a try. Yes, i still had a few pimples here and there and 1 or 2 cystic acnes a month, but overall it cleared my pimples and redness like no other topical product has ever done. I was taking 100mg twice a day for 6 months. The bad came as soon as I stopped taking it. After a week my face broke out like crazy. Hopefullly my body will be able to adjust itself and go back to how things were or else I have no choice but go back on it. |

| Pros | Worked great for about 1 year. Awesome results! |
|---|---|
| Cons | Quits working after time. |
| Bottom line | Like all oral antibiotics I have tried, minocycline failed about a year after I started it. During that year, though, I was breakout-free. It was GLORIOUS. Cystic acne, blackheads, whiteheads... all gone! I just wish it would have lasted forever. Sigh. |

| Pros | Unfortunately I wasn't on it long enough to tell. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Severe feelings of vertigo Depression Dizziness |
| Bottom line | I was first prescribed minocycline when my I had a severe flare up of acne this past November 2010. I was only on it for a week and a half and couldn't tolerate it at all. I think it depends on the individual and how they react to the medication specifically. Minocycline is a form of a tetracycline and may work for others but for me I just couldn't tolerate the vertigo feelings and dizziness. And over that, I didn't feel like myself while I was on it. I felt like it was messing with me mentally. I wasn't my happy self. And then when I googled why I had that feeling on this pill, I found out it was also used as an anti-depressant... Strange how I reacted completely opposite to that lol... go figure. Any who... I went to my doctor after I nearly passed out at work one day and she said that I just had a bad reaction to it. She then prescribed me doxycycline which I handled quite well. I would still recommend this antibiotic because it's worth a shot. If you don't feel well on it, just request to be switched over to something more tolerable. |

| Pros | Clears acne |
|---|---|
| Cons | None really |
| Bottom line | I took this a year ago and was on a really low dosage (50mg) and it cleared my acne right away and I had no pimples. I went off of it and tried something else but when I went to college my acne got really bad so my dermatologist put me back on it however now 100mg twice a day but it didn't work like it had before except when I took both doses at the same time and now my acne is almost all cleared up. Yay! Acne sucks |

| Pros | Cheap with insurance Helped prevent new pimples from forming Very few side effects |
|---|---|
| Cons | Didn't help with cysts Difficult to take according to all the directions Only minimal improvement |
| Bottom line | Worth a try. Can be annoying to take because it must be taken twice a day on an empty stomach, about 12 hours apart between doses, and you can't lie down right after taking it. It only helped me minimally, but I gave it a 7 week try and don't regret it. |

| Pros | Helped decrease acne on my face and back after I'd been taking it for about 1month |
|---|---|
| Cons | I had SEVERE vision problems while taking this. After about 2months of taking this I started to have really bad throbbing headaches with neck pain, I couldn't focus my eyes, adjust to light changes and had bright colorful blotches and lines across my vision even w/ eyes closed. My peripheral vision also decreased a lot. After I stopped taking these my vision started to get better right away but 3months later and my sight is still not 100% back to normal :( |
| Bottom line | I thought it worked pretty good before it started to make me go blind. With my insurance it cost about 10 bucks I think, but my overall Dr. bill for figuring out what was wrong with me is over $1,600 (with more visits scheduled for the near future) my optic nerve is still off the charts inflamed and I still have neck pain and decreased peripheral vision.....so i guess if you want to risk it go for it but I'd really recommend that if you try it that you keep track of how you feel on a day to day basis so you can consult your dr. with any health problems. Mine weren't sudden but gradually got worse over the period of about a month before I went to the Dr. |

| Pros | It Helps! (Not Cures, HELPS) |
|---|---|
| Cons | Neasea |
| Bottom line | Bottom line is, It really has worked. 28 Yr. Female with mild/moderate adult Acne. I Just finished my 1st script of 100MG 2X/day & It is by NO means my "Miracle Drug" but I'm feeling a little better about my face these days! Thank you Birth Control (Mirena) for screwing with my hormones & giving me Adult Acne!! I litterally tried everything under the sun & would Cry almost every night I washed off my makeup. I never had "perfect" skin, but after coming off the Mirena, my skin just kept getting WORSE & WORSE & finally I couldn't take it no more. I called my Doctor & she prescribes Minocycline. I researched the HELL out of it & read tons of reviews. It did make me very dizzy/neasiated when I took it in the mornings, but that feeling went away after a few weeks & It did get worse before it got better! Try to stick it out if you can, cause it did work for me. However, I'm sure it's not a "Long-term" solution, so I've made an appt. with my Dr. to refer me to a Dermatologist. I'm hoping I'll be able to wean myself off & keep the clearer skin... *Fingers Crossed* Also, I use an Oil Free Neutrogena face wash, Day & Night Cetaphil for lotion after wash & Clean & Clear Persa-Gel (after lotion dries about 10 min.) on my sensitive areas. Good Luck, Acne sucks & no one can understand how it makes you feel if you've never had it!! |

| Pros | Cleared up acne pretty good just after a week or so. Reduced redness of acne almost after a few days. |
|---|---|
| Cons | None as of so far. |
| Bottom line | I'm covered for the cost of this, and i've been set up to be taking this for awhile. I'm using this along with a topical of benzoyl peroxide combined with some other anti-biotic. The Truth is alot of people search online and are concerned and get worried by reading bad reviews or comments. I haven't personally had anything bad happen to me while on this. And all it has done is boost my self-esteem. My skin isnt sore anymore and my acne is slowly disappearing. I highly suggest trying this anti-biotic. Just drink lots of water. I'm taking 100 mg every day in the morning, and then eating an hour later or so. Cheer up, you deserve to feel better mentally and physically, there is nothing to lose by trying this! If you start to have symptoms just stop taking it if it's too much! |

| Pros | -Skin got less oily -Redness gone -Acne on my cheeks and nose went away -Didn't experience any side-effects |
|---|---|
| Cons | -Didn't clear up my acne on my chin/ forehead. -When I stopped my acne came back |
| Bottom line | I've had acne since I was 12, only on my forehead. When I got older the acne spread all over my face and instead of some pimples I had so many of them really close together with a lot of redness. It is pretty severe. But I know people who have/had it worse. Because of that I didn't go to a derm, I thought it was for people with severe acne, and that mine wouldn't be bad enough to do something about it. So I tried the Clinique system first for 3 months. Didn't work. I became pretty depressed about my skin ( I didn't go to sleepovers anymore because of my face, I wouldn't go swimming and I woulnd't do things that would cause sweating ( and so my make-up smearing). I finally went to the dermatologist and they said I should have come sooner. Since I had pretty bad skin I was put on Minocycline + Retin A. I had to do this for 6 weeks. The first weeks it became worse, but it did clear up gradually. BUT it only cleared up the minor pimples on my face (around my nose and on my cheeks) and my forehead cleared a little. My chin was stil horrible. My derm didn't want to stay to long on a medication when it didn't do anything anyway, She said that after 6 weeks I should see improvement and if I didn't we would try something else. I am on accutane now for 2 weeks and it became worse some days ago, it is now starting to go away. I was getting pimples on cheeks again so I know now that that wouldn't have stayed clear anyway. I do reccomend this, but to people with a milder form of acne, when you have some pimples and want them gone, but not when you're entire face is covered with pimples and redness. My acne was to severe for the medication. I really hope Accutane will work! |
