I used tetracycline when i was 16, didnt work. Minocycline didnt work. Accutane - worked but i had horrible side effects. so i told myself. Screw it - i dont care anymore. After two years i went to my dermatologist again and was hopin' to get back on accutane cos i had severe acne, but he didnt. He gave me Minocycline, i was so disappointed. cos ive been on it before and it didnt do squat. I took minocycline 2x a day n 2nd day, i stopped breakin out all together. It's weird cos this drug never worked for me before. its my 1st week. I dont know how long this will last before it starts giving up on me. :(

Well, let me start off by saying that minocycline works wonders in regards of lessening the redness of acne. It worked wonders for the first three months. Now, I'm starting to breakout again. Not as badly as before, but badly enough that I'm considering asking my derm. for a new antibiotic to try. I may also be breaking out because it's summer and I live in a climate that's been extremely humid lately.
I'd say at least try it; everyone's chemical makeup is different. It's worth a shot. Just don't hold your hopes too high if your skin starts to improve, it most likely won't last forever.

I was taking minocycline 100 mg per day, every day for 3 months, when I started experiencing a shortness of breath. It gradually worsened over the next 4 weeks to the point where I had to lie down in order to catch my breath. I am 25 years old, and in very good shape, so this was VERY uncharacteristic of me. I saw my doctor and she prescibed allergy meds, an inhaler, anxiety meds, etc., and blood tests, and still no diagnosis. I had a feeling the minocycline could be the cause so I stopped taking it and 2 weeks later I am much better and able to breath almost normally. My doctor dismissed the fact that this was caused by Minocycline, but I know that it was - there is no other explanation. I am now starting to break out but at least I can breathe.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

My daughter has been taking minocycline for 8 wks. Her acne has worsened considerably. Is this a normal response? When will her acne improve?

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Got rid of my acne but has caused me to break out in huge white blisters all over my chin and mouth. They flare up, die down, and then come back worse than before, seeping a clear fluid. They're even worse than spots because they're so unpredictable, even though they tend to have a shorter life cycle than pimples. I urge you not to use this.

Minocycline worked really well to rid my face of pimples, however it left me with a horrible yeast infection (as any antibiotic can). I was happy with it for the most part, until I told my OBGYN I was taking it. She told me to get off of it because not only can it cause discoloration of my teeth (permanent) but if I were to get pregnant, it would cause my baby's teeth to be discolored permanently as well as the possibility of bone deformities. So I quit taking it. I'm sure there are many other things that will work almost as well, without all the risks. I've also heard this can cause miscarriage, so I definintely would not take while pregnant or try to get pregnant.

I used Minocycline (tetracycline and doxycycline). I had acne since i was 16 till now (29). And Minocyclin (besides Accutane) that works. I took Minocycline for more than two years! Which i'm not suppose to, but i got my sources. Anyhow, it was good for 6 months than after that my skin got really dark and nails turns dark. My acne got used to the medication and about 8 months it didn't seem to work anymore. But i prolong it and my bladder got worst and raelly bad. I have to go to the restroom every 30 mins now. It never recovered.
I tried everything the is on the counter, medications etc and etc. After more than 12 yrs. I feel like i should have a PHD in acne products. However i still have acne so i'm so tired of trying. Counting how many new ones i have a day is my hobby now. Sometimes before i feel like taking a knive and carve my face out or just wear a mask forever. So been there and still there...

Hey all.
Talk about acne! i have had acne all my life since ny teenage years and now i'm going to be 24 still have it. I have started using Minocycline. It's been two days now. Before this a dermatologist got me on Benzamycin, Diffen gel and an antibiotic i think it was tetracycline.. they worked well and my skin was like an angel but they were too expensive so i got out of them....
Now i'm back on Minocyline. and guys let me tell you what i have learnt from a CHINESE DOCTOR. too much chemical substances on the skin worsen it.... Try Natural treatment.. He gave me this chinese herbal lotion called XIAO XIAO, it's natural made from sucle flowers and honey it's amazing.... trust me... steam your face at least for 10 minutes, drink water at least 8 glasses a day...
people think acne can only be eliminated by medicated creams and all. But what i have learnt HERBAL Medication has wonders.... when you are taking an antibiotic dont just take only the antibiotic, always have a back up like something to apply on your fACE. Benzamycin is great! and t- tree oil, and neem soap are amazing as well..
advice to everyone, do not use too much chemicals on your skin coz it irritates it and worsen it. Try herbs they are really great...
