I have been on mynocycline + differin gel for about 4 weeks now for mild but persistant acne. So far my skin feels about 70% better although i experienced a moderate break out on my face (i hope this is the only flare up!) I am hopeful that this product combination will finally clear my face / back up for good!

i have tried almost everything- and nothing worked ! i was on doxycycline for over a year, nothing.. proactive,nothing.. retina, nothing..tetracyclin, nothing..clindamyacin, nothing...

several years ago my face only had a few breakouts, but now.. its awful ! especially when im at college, the stress ruins my face ! i have tried many medicines prescribed by my doctor and also everything over the counter[[mario badescu, queen helene, zapzyt, clearasil, clean and clear, neutrogena, clinique, tea tree oil, etc.. ]]. finally, i decided to go to the derm. she told me to use differin gel at night and take two minocyclin pills everyday.. its only been 3 days, nothing yet.. but hopefully it will work.. its so embarrassing.. i shy away from others - its killing my social life. i tend to make plans with friends and then after getting frustrated becasue my face is a wreck and makeup wont cover it, i get soo sick i cant go anywhere..

hopefully this will work so i can stop being depressed and start having a life !

I just started to take this drug, but what I`m reading freaks me out. I guess the best thing to do is if there are side effects and then get off. I have had acne all my life too, so I know how it feels mentally as well as physically. Sorry, it is not fun, ever. I am now 43. I wished I could say it goes away, but it hasn`t for me. I also have tried everything. We`ll see how this does. My acne flared up big time after I had laser surgery (2500.00) done. That is why I`m trying minocycline. We`ll see...I must say I did use benzacline cream 2 months ago and I really liked that so far. I`ll see how this works and let you know. Keep a good attitude if you can, I know it is hard!

I had moderate acne on my face and mild on my chest, no cysts or nodules or anything awful. i was prescribed minocycline in april '06, 200mg/day. it wasnt that expensive because im 16 and still on my parents insurance lol. It cleared my acne only about 50-60% on my face and it cleared my chest entirely. It had no side effects, & u need to make sure that you dont have dairy products anywhere NEAR when you take mino. I actually cut out all dairy and switched to soymilk for my cereal. I went from vegetarian to vegan and lost 8 pounds. I never had any side effects, BUT I'm upset w/ minocycline because it hasnt stopped me from breaking out..especially when my period comes. Im emotionally exhausted from having acne and im asking my derm ASAP if i could try accutane, im just worried that my acne is bad but not bad enough. i hope mino works for u if you decide to try it. stay strong everyone.

I have used this drug on and off for years and I have to say I have never (touch wood!) had any side effects, not that I know of anyway. It works wonders for me. After I stopped taking it the last time my acne came back and eventually came back much much worse than ever and I developed cystic acne, horrendous painful lumps all over my face. I suffered it for over a year determined not to take minocin again because of potential side effects. I tried all of the 'natural' cures I could find, drank gallons of water etc etc but I got to the end of the road and didn't care anymore then went grovelling to my doctor to put me back on it. He said he doubted very much that it would work this time because of how severe it had become. However, within a week (no joke) I was no longer getting any new spots and the ones I had were going away. Within a month I was spot free although a lot of redness still remained. I took it for 5 months and never got another spot. After that I started taking less of the drug, one every two days for a while then every three days. Currently am on one a week and my face is still fine. No doubt I'll have to come off them soon and have to wait and see whether it comes back again. It has been so worth it just to have even a few months of spot free skin and not be afraid to go out in the daylight anymore! My doctor is amazed by the results. Obviously I don't like taking them but the next step up for me is roaccutane and it's much scarier!

Hi,

Just wanted to comment on the blog I read from No Name Man in Los Angeles. Don't give up, you sound very depressed! Have you tried the Clear Light Lasers for severe Acne or B5 vitamins? They are supposed to help for recalcitrant cases like yours sounds like. Also, I wouldn't hesitate to try Accutane, just get it under a doctor's care and tell him about your current state of mind, maybe they can monitor you more closely while you're on it. It's supposed to be close to a cure. Speaking of cures, why hasn't someone invented a PERMANENT cure to EVERY acne case by now?

P.S. I never had acne, only Rosacea. I've had 50 laser and IPL treatments and it's close to gone. The only antibiotic to ever work for me was Achromycin V which I took for 10 years. Then I got a rash and had to stop it. Minocycline didn't help me, or at least not much. Just the lasers helped.

Was prescribed mino a couple days ago for my back, as my face isn't that bad. After hearing and reading all about it, I've decided I don't think it's worth it for my body. You need to make the best decision for you, of course self-esteem is always a huge issue. Healthwise, this drug isn't the way to go. Unfortunately, acne research is in relative infancy compared to other areas. A very helpful tip though - if you can find a good fish oil supplement (Omega 3 fatty acid), it is great for reducing inflammation of acne - I'm talking very noticeable at least for me. Plus, it's a good thing to take regardless of if you have acne or not. If you read any health manual and look up acne, this will be likely be listed as an essential supplement. Good luck guys and gals...

I took Tetraciclyne about 40 days ago and it did not help my acne,
now the doctor prescribed minocycline and I just took 4 days and will take for 4 weeks total, altogether with isoterxin and azelex acid,
I write again in a month to let people know if that helped
