| Pros | I was using clindoxyl gel for 3 months before my doctor prescribed minocycline. When on both it cured my cystic acne after 2 weeks, and since then slowly stopped the occurrence of other blemishes. I have been on both products for just under 2 months now. Although, I still have red marks but that'll take time to heal. |

| Cons | I was on 100mg, twice a day, at first. The dose was too much and caused vertigo and loss of apatite. My doctor lightened the load to 50 in the morning (since my symptoms were mainly in the mornings) and 100 at night. |
| Bottom line | My face hurt from the cystic acne and minocycline got rid of all of it. |

| Pros | nothing |
|---|---|
| Cons | red itchy hives |
| Bottom line | My son took this for 5 days and he got big red welts on his neck, then his arms. His face also looked red like a sunburn. They say 1 in 100 will have a reaction to it. He was that lucky 1. |

| Pros | Smooth Skin! |
|---|---|
| Cons | Side effects depending on dosage |
| Bottom line | My dermatologist put me on this for two months and i was initially supposed to take it two times a day, which i did for about a week. The side effect were so horrible i was so incredibly dizzy/nausea and i had no appetite and when i did eat everything tasted gross. it was not fun, however my skin was definitely becoming more smooth, but i just felt too sick. So, my mom called my dermatologist and he said to just take it once a day and since then i have had zero side effects besides smooth skin! I have not gotten one pimple since i have been on this medication. i am so happy i went to my dermatologist and that i called him when things felt like they werent going right. I have absolutely no blemishes now, but i am still taking the medication until i vist my derm in about two and a half weeks and then i slowly get off the medication. I do have marks where my blemishes were but my derm said that when i see him we will focus on getting rid of that. I am so excited! I know this stuff might not work for some people, but it did for me. Bottom line i suggest if you have skin problems and health insurance just go see a dermatologist talk to them about what you have used and how well it worked or didnt and when they give you medication communicate with them if theirs issues or questions, that way you can get the results you want! Also the successfulness of your treatments also can be affected by your lifestyle choices. so drink prenty of water, get rest, exercise, try and steer clear away from dairy products, and dont touch your face unless you have washed your hands :) Good Luck! |

| Pros | cheap and easy to obtain |
|---|---|
| Cons | it didnt do a thing for me |
| Bottom line | i had moderate acne problems and i thought maybe an oral antibiotic would cure my acne rather than topical ointments alone. I was prescribed minocycline by my doctor and i took it twice a day for 5 days on and 5 off, and it did absolutely nothing for me. I am fair skinned and a hispanic male, but i would not recommend taking this. |

| Pros | It cleared up my acne! |
|---|---|
| Cons | Made me nauseas on an empty stomach. |
| Bottom line | I love this antibiotic. I have not experienced any bad side effects except the occasional nauseas feeling if taken on an empty stomach. It cleared up my cysts and has drastically changed the appearance of my acne. I've been taking it for 3 weeks now, and I'm sure it will just get better from here. I'm so thankful to find something that works for me. |

| Pros | Cheap, I suppose. Cleared my acne a little. |
|---|---|
| Cons | Gave me a comparatively rare and debilitating disease. |
| Bottom line | I went on this medication 3 years ago, and it gave me Pseudo Tumor Cerebri, which means my body produced too much spinal and cranial fluid. I went partially blind temporarily, suffered extreme headaches, and dizziness to the extent that I could not walk. I would rather walk around with worse acne than I had than have to repeat all of those medical visits where nobody knew what I had, and where I had to have repeated spinal taps. My advice is: no matter what medicine you take, become acquainted with ALL of the side effects - even rare ones. Then decide if you think the risk is worth it. I, personally, do not. |

| Cons | This made me break out with cystic acne!! Worse acne than I ever had my entire life! I started getting blotches of acne(like 6 pimples in one spot) on my back, face, shoulders. I threw it away! |
| Bottom line | This stuff is definitely not for everyone. |

| Pros | None |
|---|---|
| Cons | Dizzy, light headed, neausea, thirsty, vertigo. |
| Bottom line | I took this for 1 week and it was the worse week ever. I had to stop taking it because I couldnt handle the side effects anymore. It made me sick, dizzy, naseous, vertigo to the point where I was afraid to drive! It was hard to function on this medication and it didnt help my acne at all. I felt like it was making it worse and the redness even more prominent. I started with one really bad cyst and then after I got on Minocycline, my entire forehead started breaking out really bad. This definately didnt work for me and Im still recovering from the side effects. |
