| Pros: | Works great for my acne. |
| Cons: | Doesn't work if food is in your system. |
| Bottom Line: | The thing to remember is that since no two people are alike, the same goes for acne. What works for some, will not work for all. For me, minocycline worked wonders.
About a year and a half ago, my mild acne all of a sudden transformed to moderate/severe. I was getting those nodular/pustular bad boys, ya know, where it actually looks like your face is changing shape...scarring, bleeding, non-stop ridges popping up everywhere.
Finally I went to a new dermatologist who prescribed minocycline. I'd say within 2 weeks, I started seeing a difference, and it only got better.
As with any acne treatment, you have to stick with it. None on them work overnight. For those of you taking it for a few days, and thinking about quitting...you have to give it more time, it might work wonders for you too.
Today, a year and a half later, I'm still taking it. |

| Pros: | Clears acne FAST and stays clear temporarily. No side effects |
| Cons: | Can't take medication 1 hour before or after eating. |
| Bottom Line: | Here were my results:
2 Days: All inflamed pimples went down.
1 week: Significant decrease in redness of pimples
1 month: Clear skin, fading red marks
3 months - 7 months: Clear skin
7 months - 9 months: occasional minor break outs
9 months - 12 months: acne is back same as before medication was taken.
This is an effective temporary medication for acne. It clears you up very well, but your body becomes immune to the drug and your skin will relapse and break out. I would suggest using minocycline for a month, then start Tazorac while continuing with the minocycline. Tazorac is a much more permanent medication for the treatment of acne. Good luck |

| Pros: | Ive used it since Oct 29th and my nodular acne is completely gone!! |
| Cons: | I take a 50 mg tablet every 12 hours, sometimes i forget. The waiting to eat rule always gets to me... |
| Bottom Line: | I've had nodular and pustular bumps on my face for the last year and some change. In the little time I've used this product, I've been completely impressed. My Acne is completely gone. My regimen consists of a few easy steps. I wash with dove cleansing cloths to exfoliate and cleanse, followed by erythromicin benzoylperoxide gel (prescribed by my doctor), and I finish by moisturizing with bio oil...The bumps are completely gone and the scars have faded to almost nothing...Today, I have control over my acne! |

| Pros: | Started seeing some improvements in facial acne within first 3 weeks. |
| Cons: | Have not seen any improvement in back acne yet. |
| Bottom Line: | I don't think the majority of reveiws on here are worth reading and I'll tell you why. Most give low scores or consider it a "Con" that the product hasn't started working after one or two days of treatment! Are you people crazy or something?. Others complain of dry skin, which is most likely caused by the topical cream their derm prescibed in conj. with antibiotic. Other side effects described, may or may not be caused by this medication. Also who knows if some of the people not seeing results are taking medication exactly as prescribed. If they are missing a dose here and there, that could be why it is not effective.
So, basically what I am saying is don't take my or any one else's opinion with more than a grain of salt. If your acne is bad enough that your derm is suggesting antibitoic and nothing else has helped, then try it. Give it time to work before disregarding it as a viable option, and take it as prescribed. I am going to give it tme t work and then see. |

| Pros: | Cleared up my acne! Saw SIGNIFICANT improvement after 2 months. Skin was completely clear after 4 months (note I'm also on Diane 35 and using 2 topical acne creams). I experienced NO side effects!! |
| Cons: | Took over a month to see any results. Can't take it within a few hours of calcium and iron, which I found inconvenient. It was also inconvenient to stay out of the sun for long periods of time. Oh, and yeast infections. Tons of em. |
| Bottom Line: | Be patient! It WILL take more than a few weeks. But it's well worth it. I took one pill on an empty stomach before going to bed. Maybe this is why I didn't experience some of the common side effects (nausea, dizziness). I was sleeping!
The only side effect I experienced was yeast infections which is common for any longterm antibiotics. I finally got those under control, and I recommend natural remedies for anyone having recurring yeast infections (you can find tons online).
My acne never got worse during the course of this medication. It only improved. I now have 3 weeks left of the 6 month treatment, but I felt I could have ended it at 4 months! My acne is gone. See note above--I am using 3 other prescriptions (diane 35, steivamycin, and clindoxyl). This undoubtedly helped. Maybe ask your dermatologist to take an aggressive approach with several meds.
Cost me $70 without a prescription plan, $7 with a plan. |
