Pros It removes dead, flaking skin.. temporarily gives smooth even look for special occasions.
Cons Does not give you permanent results, and veryvery expensive! What a racket it is!
Bottom line I really think the dermabrasion machines are a scam, the results are not permanent, the price is outrageous... of course I did treatments when it first became popular and realized belatedly I was simply paying the cost of their equipment. Basically I think besides exfoliating your skin, the machine simply causes your skin to swell and have a temporary filling out of scars and smooth appearance--IT DOES NOT LAST!!! A rip off and a farce. Now I can use store products that pretty much give me the same results--including a dermabrasion cloth that works as well as an office visit.I would never pay 50.00 to 100.00 plus for a dermabrasion ever again. I wasted a couple of thousand dollars on the machines and I regret it.
Price paid $2,500.00

Pros Minimizes pore appearance (this seemed to be a long-lasting effect), smooths bumps, really helps breakouts (after initial small purging), my 6 sessions faded some hyperpigmentation, but not miraculously.
Cons I discovered the hard way that you must continue having a treatment at least every 6 - 8 weeks. Had I realized this I could have saved myself from lots of acne! Pricey - but worth it IMO.
Bottom line I highly recommend Microdermabrasion. I had 6 sessions last winter and it dramatically improved my complexion. After my 1st session I purged a little but it was nothing to cry about. I took a long break from it after my baby was born and I wish I hadn't, as I started having horrible breakouts again. I went in for another session yesterday. Just for fun I used my digital camera and took before and after treatment photos, and I was amazed at the improvement in hyperpigmentation (much less red) and bumps in just one session. My next is scheduled in 8 days. Don't want to purge, but will bear it just to have that good skin I had last winter!
Price paid $75.00

Pros Helps your skin exfoliate and renew itself for a fresh appearance.
Cons Results are temporary and too superficial to treat acne.
Bottom line I underwent 6 sessions of microdermabrasion - one every two weeks, and then followed up with one session per month. My skin looked fresher and had a healthy glow after each session because the treatment basically exfoliates your skin. My acne subsided for about one month, but thereafter returned to its usual pattern. After the second month I was back to where I had started with the scarring and my level of acne. I would not recommend this procedure as a long-term solution to treating acne. It's a good way to get glowing skin quickly for a few weeks though. Definitely not worth the pain (moderate) or what it costs though (and I recieved a steep discount).

Thank you for all you imput it was very helpful. I was considering yag laser treatment which cost $5000 but now I feel that microdermabrassion has good enough results if done regularly along with a good skin care system like proactiv This is because it regularly exfoliates the skin to prevent acne and clogged pores. It's a big price difference and worth considering.

CHECK OUT THE VIBRADERM MICRODERMABRASION PROCEDURE! Seriously, it works wonders, it's gentle, no peeling, no scabs, no bleeding, nothing just a little redness that completely fades in a few hours. My skin is beautifully soft and smooth and I am so pleased that my derm recommended this. It should be done along with extractions and perhaps a light peel. I've gotten 3 sessions like that for a package of $300. Pricey, but worth it. My skin hasn't looked this good in 3 years.

I started using one of the home micro dermabrasion kits that you buy at a drug store called spasciences and it is working wonders. I have mild to severe acne, but it seems like my biggest problem was dry skin. I work outside get really dirty and then my skin is also dry. So I think for my skin type it works wonders. It worked super well for my best friend too who had the exact same problem I did. I got rid of all my black heads, my skin has no more scarring, and best of all... all my big huge ugly pimples are gone. I think if you have sensitive skin it would actually make it worse though... like if you get those little irritation pimples. I almost have never gotten those but after the first few uses of the microdermabrasion I did but after my skin got used to it they stopped comming back.. but the pimples were so mild!!!! I LOVE MICRO!!!!!!

i had about 5 micro-derm sessions for 100 bucks each. i'm a college student and they gave me a discount. remember to ask!!! and remember to tell him/her to increase the level to at least 7 the first time and 10 by the third time. trust me, better results. at least a 10-20% after. but sadly, the results do not last unless you get them 1 every couple of months. by 3 months, my shallow indentations returned, and i was right back where i started.

i recently had subcision done. AMAZING! if you don't have ice pick scarring, this procedure will smooth out scarring considerably. my scars are about 80% improved after the 1st treatment. risks include overcorrection, but that's rare. there was bruising and swelling, but who cares? the point is i really like the skin i'm in and feel so much better about myself. everything changes. your personality. your outlook on life. it's so weird what an affect acne scarring has on your life, and mine wasn't even that bad. anyways, please consider it.

I have cystic acne moderate but consistent. My entire face has red scars. Nothing has worked for me except once I used benzoyl peroxide 10% consistntly with ice cube therapy held on the dark spots every day (now I have too many to keep up with it). I keet up with the ice every day for about 2 weeks and the red marks were GONE! It's just hard to remember or find time to do it. And when the whole face is covered it takes too long to ice each spot for a good 3 min. each. It helps when they are fresh scars but worked OK on older ones. The older ones have more of a tendancy to come back though.
