Pros:Works slightly, shrinks some pores.
Cons:It's really a waste of money. I agree with some of the other people here who've been ripped off. I had 8 sessions of this, which cost me nearly £500 ($1000), and it only made my acne worse. My face was red, parts were bleeding, and I couldn't go out
Bottom Line:I think that a chemical peel is a better idea.

Pros:gets rid of dead cells, evens skin tone
Cons:expensive, didn't help my acne
Bottom Line:I first had Microdermabrasion done at Rizzieri's salon in Washington. It evened out my skin tone but didn't do much for my acne. I stopped going after quite a few treatments because it wasn't helping and was wasting money. Later on I went to Susan Bullock of the Washington Twp. Dermatology Center. She recommended Microdermabrasion for my acne so I gave it a shot a second time. She said their machine was stronger then the one used at Rizzieri's so I was convinced it would work out this time. A few months went by and there was no improvement in my acne. I still was breaking out and didn't see any difference in my Nothing. Nada. What a waste of money. I really wanted it to work out. They only tell you to get it done to cover the cost of buying Microdermabrasion machine. If you really want to try Microdermabrasion purchase a home kit and save your money. Derm-e has a Microdermabrasion product.

Pros:I had a series of vibradermabrasions (a new microderm without the crystals). I was really impressed with the results. My skin is smooth and it helped reduce my dry skin as well. I am doing a series of 7 spaced 10 days apart. I love it.
Cons:It costs about $140 a pop! But if you buy a package, they will give you a discount. The money was worth it to me and I would spend it again in heartbeat.
Bottom Line:I love vibradermabrasion!. I get them done at a place called forever young day spa in cooper city by a young lady named Yoni. I have gone to many spas, but they are by far the best. They have helped my skin tremendously, and have also improved my self confidence.

Pros:Worked great! Cheeks looks smoother.
Cons:Expensive.
Bottom Line:Well, I just had one session last week. My skin looks fabulous! Best thing I've done all year. My pores are quite enlarged and I had red marks on my face from pregnancy (elevated estrogen) and old acne. This leveled out all the pores and made my skin beautiful again. They also did IPL treatment on my redmarks and poof! they were gone instantly. My skin looks beautiful. I've been using BHA and antioxidant moisturizer and after spending the last few days in a heavy Skinceutical's SPF 30 they gave me to use I'm going to continue that regimen to keep the pores clean and healing. Probably won't do it again, since the derm suggested that a salycylic acid peel might help more, so I'm going to do that in a month. I'm also considering (after the peel) going on a prescribed retinoid to change the shape of my pores a bit.

Pros:It removes dead, flaking skin.. temporarily gives smooth even look for special occasions.
Cons:Does not give you permanent results, and veryvery expensive! What a racket it is!
Bottom Line:I really think the dermabrasion machines are a scam, the results are not permanent, the price is outrageous... of course I did treatments when it first became popular and realized belatedly I was simply paying the cost of their equipment. Basically I think besides exfoliating your skin, the machine simply causes your skin to swell and have a temporary filling out of scars and smooth appearance--IT DOES NOT LAST!!! A rip off and a farce. Now I can use store products that pretty much give me the same results--including a dermabrasion cloth that works as well as an office visit.I would never pay 50.00 to 100.00 plus for a dermabrasion ever again. I wasted a couple of thousand dollars on the machines and I regret it.

Pros:Microdermabrasion works only if you have clear skin.
Cons:If you have acne on your face you should NOT get microdermabrasion or dermabrasion. You are creating new scars by popping the acne you have on your face. This procedure will make your scars worse. I learned this from my dermatologist.
Bottom Line:Do NOT get microdermabrasion until your skin is clear or has very little breakouts.

The sanding effect will make your scars worse. I was bleeding after the microdermabrasion, because I mistakenly thought the microdermabrasion would "erase" my breakouts. It didn't. (I had the treatment done at a "spa" that only wanted my money.) I should have gone to a DERMATOLOGIST FIRST!

Make sure your dermatologist is board certified and has many years of training and experience in microdermabrasion and dermabrasion.

Ask for before and after pictures and speak with fellow patients. Also ask questions about the recovery time and possible side effects such as senstivity to sunlight, and hyperpigmentation.

If the price seems too good to be true its probably a scam, or you are one of the first patients to have the procedure. Do your research.

Pros:Minimizes pore appearance (this seemed to be a long-lasting effect), smooths bumps, really helps breakouts (after initial small purging), my 6 sessions faded some hyperpigmentation, but not miraculously.
Cons:I discovered the hard way that you must continue having a treatment at least every 6 - 8 weeks. Had I realized this I could have saved myself from lots of acne! Pricey - but worth it IMO.
Bottom Line:I highly recommend Microdermabrasion. I had 6 sessions last winter and it dramatically improved my complexion. After my 1st session I purged a little but it was nothing to cry about. I took a long break from it after my baby was born and I wish I hadn't, as I started having horrible breakouts again. I went in for another session yesterday. Just for fun I used my digital camera and took before and after treatment photos, and I was amazed at the improvement in hyperpigmentation (much less red) and bumps in just one session. My next is scheduled in 8 days. Don't want to purge, but will bear it just to have that good skin I had last winter!

Pros:Helps your skin exfoliate and renew itself for a fresh appearance.
Cons:Results are temporary and too superficial to treat acne.
Bottom Line:I underwent 6 sessions of microdermabrasion - one every two weeks, and then followed up with one session per month. My skin looked fresher and had a healthy glow after each session because the treatment basically exfoliates your skin. My acne subsided for about one month, but thereafter returned to its usual pattern. After the second month I was back to where I had started with the scarring and my level of acne. I would not recommend this procedure as a long-term solution to treating acne. It's a good way to get glowing skin quickly for a few weeks though. Definitely not worth the pain (moderate) or what it costs though (and I recieved a steep discount).

Thank you for all you imput it was very helpful. I was considering yag laser treatment which cost $5000 but now I feel that microdermabrassion has good enough results if done regularly along with a good skin care system like proactiv This is because it regularly exfoliates the skin to prevent acne and clogged pores. It's a big price difference and worth considering.

CHECK OUT THE VIBRADERM MICRODERMABRASION PROCEDURE! Seriously, it works wonders, it's gentle, no peeling, no scabs, no bleeding, nothing just a little redness that completely fades in a few hours. My skin is beautifully soft and smooth and I am so pleased that my derm recommended this. It should be done along with extractions and perhaps a light peel. I've gotten 3 sessions like that for a package of $300. Pricey, but worth it. My skin hasn't looked this good in 3 years.
