I turned 20 last week so this'll be my 8 year of acne. I don't really know when it has been at its worst. Yesterday I noticed a big (still flat) and extremly painful bump on my forehead which I suspect is a beginning of a cyst. I usually don't get cysts on my face, so it was a really pleasant surprise. I hope I'm growing a horn instead of cyst...

AMANDA: You know, that he's not from this planet.
MULDER: Were you abducted?
AMANDA: Huh? No, no, he dropped by my apartment one day, and one thing sort of led to another...
MULDER: But the baby's father is an alien?
AMANDA: No, no, I didn't say he was an alien, I said he was from another planet. His name is Luke Skywalker. He's what's known as a Jedi Knight.
SCULLY: Did he have a light saber?
AMANDA: No, he didn't bring it.

Hmm i had a pimple here and there when i was about 17-18 due to my love of eating fried food and my lack of hygiene i think for my face. But i started getting acne last year when i was 20 so i guess just a little less than a year.

QUOTE (fluffy101 @ Dec 30 2008, 11:08 AM) *
how many years have u had acne and when was it the worst

I started getting it when I was about 11, going on 12. I'm turning 17 in a few months, but its slowly going away.

I had it worst ... um, when I was about 13-14-15 ... god, my face was horrible. The only consolation was the fact that nobody ever brought it up for such a long time. Seriously. My friends never made comments, nobody really ever mentioned it to my face, (except one comment in grade 7 which I've never forgotten). It makes me appreciate my mates even more. I was the only one cringing looking back at photos of myself really.

I had acne for 30 years.
------------
Status: Clear after 30 years. Over 3 years in March '09!

Good Things for Acne

Story: Severe Acne since I was 10. 10+ years of Dermatologists, Antibiotics, topicals and ACCUTANE did nothing. Discovered oranges triggered the worst of my cystic acne = about 70% improvement. B-complex with zinc and C, saw palmetto and aspirin mask = more improvement, a lot less oily. Diet changes = Clear.

Regimen: Anti-inflammatory, nutrient dense, blood sugar stabilizing diet and supplements (for hormones, inflammation, aging, health). Mild cleanser. Occasional BHA usage. Jojoba or Moisturizer w/ niacinimide for hyperpigmentation. For more info see my personal Log/Notes

Diet effects acne in so many ways: hormone balance, inflammation, Insulin levels, digestion, allergies and intolerances, liver function, adrenal function, SHBG levels, sebum quality, cell function and turnover, nutrient deficiencies, body fat, etc. All inter-related, some with a causal effect on the others Also affected by environment and lifestyle habits like stress management, sleep and exercise.
Lots more info.
List of clinical studies demonstrating diet and acne connection.
List of members who've cleared their skin via diet and healthy lifestyle.

Basic advice: Eat, sleep, supplement and exercise like you are a diabetic. And eat real food!

I had it for 12 years. Late 2007 was the worst because I quit taking birth control and antibiotics. Major explosion of cysts.

I'm curious as to how many people who've posted so far started applying different topicals and whatnot to their faces soon after they began getting acne. And how many simply continued their same routines as always. Some people think that the use of topicals just prolongs the acne cycle. Seems like most people here have been dealing with it much longer than I ever anticipated. I just wonder how many people here DIDN'T apply anything to their face and simply continued on with a simple face wash of soap and water.

Anybody?

I've had acne since I was 11 and I'm about to turn 27. What's worse is that most of it's not acne to begin with. I've had folliculitis for at least 15 years and not one of the stupid dermatologists I went to ever thought about this! eusa_eh.gif

14 years! it was really bad when I was 14 until I turn about 22. Now I'm 26 and with medication is ok but still get couple of really bad days. Acne sucks big time!

I wanted to add something to the question. What is the worst thing that you put in your face before you knew better? I ask this because back when I was younger I would put anything that people would tell me, now I research everything a lot!

Worst thing for me I guess:

Noxema with sugar I was supposed to rub it on my face lol my face was so red and of course worse. Also I put alcohol!

Put me down for 30 years!

QUOTE
Some people think that the use of topicals just prolongs the acne cycle.

Not me. They were pretty much irrelevant in my case, or rather, just another thing to form random accidental correlations with. So, if I tried Brand X of BP during a time things were trending better, I would use it religiously -- until things went bad often enough to prove it was irrelevant.

At this point, I can produce or eliminate acne on my body within about a 48-hour period and never put a thing on my skin, so I'm pretty sure topicals are just irrelevant to my particular acne.

I've had it for 3 and a half years...I look better without makeup but I'm self conscious about the red marks. Make up justs drys out my skin and makes it look flaky....I'm currently trying to use all natural things and eat the right way. Today is my last day of freedom sad.gif Tommorow I start a new life if it doesn't get rid of my acne well that at least I'll be healthier and hopefully happier.
I don't know when it has been worst maybe it was last year and this year because it seems out of control. Where I used to only get it on my cheeks occasionally, I started to get it on my forehead, than on my chin, and sometimes on my nose. It sucks ass to have acne and then look around at other people who have perfect skin complain about a stupid mole or getting sun burned. I know I don't have it as bad as some people but it still angers me when people with one pimple think they have acne! Well anywho I hope you all win you're long or short battles with acne...I wish you all the best of luck.

I had it since I was 11 it started just on the chin then ALL OVER! Although lately on the chin where I first started acne in the last month I have no acne on my chin. My cheeks arent as bad either lately and I'm 15. Definetly 15 was my worst year but suddenly I dont know its getting better? I praying to god its just hormonal...if it isn't I swear I'll get some accutane I can't take it much longer. Do you know what it feels like to be the only person in all of school to wear cover-up?

11 very long years, though thankfully it is showing signs of improvement. The most severe time was around the ages of 12-15 where my acne went from moderate to severe, 3 years of my life were spent ingesting antibiotics that did absolutely nothing and the Dr's were too retarded to prescribe Accutane until I was 16.
