How did your weaning off Doryx go?  I am on Spiro 50mg just over 7 weeks and Doxy about 3 weeks.  I will wean off in about 2 months and curious to hear how it works for you.  Are you clear already based on the combo?


Hi! This combo did clear up my skin better than anything I have used in the past. In the past six-ish months that I have used it, I have not had one cyst and have just had very small clogged pores and bits of congested skin. It's amazing, and my life has changed dramatically with this clearing. However, my doctor told me I need to stop the Doryx. As much anxiety and sorrow that this gives me, I am slowly lowering my dose. I started with taking half of a pill (Going from 200mg to 100mg) for one month. Now, I am taking 100mg every other day. In a few weeks, I am going to take 100mg every three days for a two weeks, then every four days for a week. The I will stop. I have read that this is the best way to taper off to avoid breakouts. So far, I have very small bouts of congested skin and whiteheads that have occurred with every dosage lowering (While I am not sure they are attributed to the lowering of the dose, but seems most likely given the timing of these breakouts) but it goes away quickly and my skin is still pretty clear. I hope that I can maintain clear skin once I stop the Doryx entirely. I am doing everything in my power to ensure that can happen.

Diet is not the reason for everyone's acne. I tried for almost three years to cure my acne with diet and herbs. I went on green juice cleanses, water cleanses under the supervision of a doctor, no dairy, soy, or gluten, I eliminated all citrus, I tried the apple diet, I change my pillow cases every day. I tried hormone balancing herbs (vitex, chasteberry, DIM, etc) for six months, I did a parasite cleanse, I tried coffee enemas, I went on the all apple diet for three days, I drink green smoothies and juices everyday. I eat absolutely nothing out of a can, bottle, or anything whatsoever that has been processed. I make everything fresh, 100% organic, I do not eat out. Whew. I've tried so much more than I can write, because curing my acne has been an obsession. But you know what? It didn't really help my skin. I am still eating incredibly healthy, because it has drastically improved other aspects of my life (my depression and anxiety, my sleep, etc) but the only thing that worked for my skin in specific is spironolactone. My skin has always been generally clear for two weeks, and an awful cystic outbreak for two weeks. The two weeks that I break out are during and after my period. I need to get my hormone levels checked out, but I've done a diet for at least a month to balance every and any hormonal imbalance I could have. It becomes daunting, and makes food an enemy, but spiro helps without going through all this torture and my skin is clear all month.

What I ate today: (All 100% Organic)
530AM Cucumber, spinach, celery, parsley juice (32oz fresh pressed & organic)
6AM 16oz blueberries
730 AM Fresh pressed 14oz Carrot Juice & 14oz of fresh pressed beet, basil, apple & kale juice
11AM: Kale salad with raw lemon vinagrette, blend of cucumber, spinach, onion, green peppers, apple cider vinegar, garlic, mint & cumin (Sooooooooooo delicious, oh my gosh) & coconut milk
Noon: Lemon & Turmeric Juice Mangos
2PM Collard vegetable wrap & dandelion pine nut salad
4PM blend of cucumber, spinach, onion, green peppers, apple cider vinegar, garlic, mint & cumin
6PM Lemon, Lime, avocado, stevia & coconut blended shake

As a snack later I may have carrot sticks & fresh hummus

freeliving, it was actually a pretty good amount of calories1 I'm sure over 2000, with the tahini in the hummus and the nut 'cheeses'. The amount of carrots/celery as well as the salad were VERY large portions. Trust me, I'm not starving. Always am sure to be very full and satisfied with my foods! I feel like I'm constantly eating, but I'm always getting amazing nutrients in my system.

Morning: 2ounces of organic juiced ginger. 16oz of organic cucumber juice

Afternoon: Arugula Salad with nut 'cheese' dressing, 32oz of water

Dinner: Hummus and carrots/celery

Snacks: 2 bananas, 1 bar of raw organic vegan chocolate, mmm
