What do you need a blood test for on accutane?

22 July 2008 - 02:30 AM

I am not on accutane but for the people taking it, what do you usually need to get a blood test for and how often? What do they measure to see if it's okay?

What I mean is I generally know that they do one test before the prescribe it to see if you are okay to take it, and then one every x amount of months. What do they look for to see if it's normal? From what I recall, I think it is the triglycerides or something like that?

My friend is getting accutane prescribed from a doctor and I want him to be informed because it's a pretty serious drug.

Sorry if it takes long to reply, I am out of the country and have limited access to the internet. Thanks!

My scalp bumps vanished... you won't believe what the cause was.

02 July 2008 - 07:57 PM

For 3 to 4 years I had a progressive issue with my scalp. I would get these bumps, they were not acne but they were painful and the size of acne. I read about it on the web as well. I always thought it was my diet. After acne cleared I wondered what else it could be?

One day I decided to simply drink tap water instead of the water that comes out of the fridge because it fills up really slow and I thought it didn't matter. It was pure coincidence and luck.

In a matter or two days it stopped fully and cleared. I used to have new bumps everyday for years. Finally it stopped in it's tracks and at the time I never realized what it was. But it did not come back for a week. I figured it was odd then realized what had happened. I tracked backwards and realized the only change was the water source.

So I decided to try the fridge water again, within 3 hours I felt more bumps in my scalp!

I let those clear up after a week or so, and stopped drinking it and tried it one more time. Without fail, in 3 hours I would get them again!

So something in the fridge water is doing something really nasty and I am reacting to it. Now I stay away from it and no longer have a problem with my scalp.

Just wanted to share in case someone else was having the same problem, it may be the water source or a contaminant perhaps.

It makes me mad at the same time that it was something so obvious but so yet not.

Good riddance!

Do you think the fish oil will go rancid in luggage?

29 June 2008 - 01:55 PM

I'm going overseas soon, the plane ride is 21 hours. I am wondering if I should take fish oil because it may go rancid. (pills). Do you think it will stay fine in the luggage? Do they keep the luggage area somewhat cooler? Or is it not even worth taking fish oil capsules? I'm going to be going for a month and I can't buy any there, so I don't know what to do.

Attempting to re-introduce dairy

26 June 2008 - 11:08 PM

It's been a very long time since I stopped drinking dairy. I'm adding it back in and testing to see if it will do anything now. I hope and pray nothing happens acne wise.

Have any of you attempted to do so? What happened and how long did it take to show an impact?

I had a protein shake, snickers, and oreos. Man did that taste really good
