About Me

I have struggled with acne for many years without much luck. Currently on a plant-based diet (raw and cooked) and have been incorporating many green (and/or fruit) smoothies and green juices in an attempt to heal my skin holistically. Unfortunately, my skin is the worst that it has ever been since I had to be on Accutane for horrible acne. Have been on Accutane twice before and although it worked, I really don't want to go back on such a potent drug. So... I am trying to manage the acne through a healthy and nutritious diet... Skin looks terrible so far though. Started to break out in April 2014 (forehead), after I stopped using Benzoyl Peroxide (Oxy) which had been moderately successful in managing pimples (although not those that persistently appeared around menstruation). Although BP worked reasonably well, I really wanted to stop relying on putting such harsh chemicals on my skin every day... From May to August, acne got steadily worse around my chin, jaw and neck, as well as on my cheeks and temples. It seems to be worst around my chin and jaw area, but my entire face region is aflame with clogged pores. My skin is extremely oily and I'm constantly having to blot the oil with blotting paper... I'm pretty sure this is an internal problem because it is only on my face that is affected. I used to get acne on my chest, shoulders and back (horribly inflamed, itchy and painful), but those areas are now clear (save for scarring and the occasional pimple), no longer break out like my face does. I never knew what caused my back to clear up (I wasn't on Accutane at that time - I went on Accutane because the acne was destroying my face). Also, pre-Accutane, I tended to break out on my forehead, temples and nose whereas my lower face (cheeks, chin, jaw, neck) were never problem areas. Don't know what is causing my acne and am feeling pretty defeated but although my skin does not reflect it, the diet changes are definitely feeling good in other health-related ways. Thanks for stopping by and if you have had success with treating acne through diet, would really love to speak with you! I am no longer interested in dermatologists and harsh drugs... :( Am very keen on treating myself naturally and holistically.
