I suffered from cystic acne 17 years ago and went on Accutane. I was on it for about 4 months. The acne was in remission until last November when I got a massive cyst on the right side of my face. The cyst erupted into about 25 pimples. I tried Spironolactone and had negative side effects. I went on Cephalexin (antibiotic) which cleared me temporarily but now the cysts are back. I usually have 3-7 cysts at a time in the areas of my cheeks and chin. I've hesitated going on Accutane again because of the potential side effects. Now I'm at the point where nothing's helping, I feel ugly and they are painful. So, I've made the decision to begin treatment in early June. I plan to post updates to benefit others.

I was clear of acne after Accutane (15+ years ago). My acne started flaring up in April. I went to a Derm and he recommended: BP in AM, Retin-A in PM. The acne got worse (whiteheads to pustules).
Went to a different Derm Monday and was prescribed: 50 mg Spiro (if no side effects in 3 days, increase to 100 mg) and continue with topicals. Scheduled for follow-up in 2 mos.

Baseline: Skin moderately oily in T-Zone, 2 whiteheads on chin, 5 cysts on rt cheek, 2 cysts on left side of jaw.

Status: Been on 50 mg for 3 days. Skin somewhat oily in T-Zone (improving), 1 pimple on chin, 5 cysts on rt cheek (diminishing), 2 cysts on left side of jaw, 5+ pimples on left cheek. It's possible I'm having an initial breakout, time will tell.

Side effects: Cycle may have started earlier than usual.

Drinking a fair amount of water to reduce negative impact.
