I have had acne mild/moderate/sometimes severe but ALWAYS had acne for the last 23 YEARS (since I was 11... I'm now 34. ugh. I don't need to go into all the distress it has caused because anyone on here probably knows. It is especially upsetting now that I'm a mom, successful business owner, wife etc... It's just the last thing I feel like worrying about/thinking about when I'm on my way to a playdate or business meeting. Always trying to hide one side of my face, look down or up, even canceling things that I wanted to go to because my face is just bothering me so bad. I decided to take what I consider drastic measures about a month ago and have had fantastic results that I wanted to share. The bad part is I'm not sure EXACTLY what has led to this beautiful skin but I'm just going to keep all of it up because it's working.
First off, let me say I've tried EVERYTHING. Accutane, Retin-A, antibiotics (both pill and gels), topicals, prescription, over the counter... you name it. You will quickly see why after 23 years I had to try something totally different. The creams, medications, birth control pills would have great results for 2-4 months and then I was back to the way I was. I hope it's not the case with the holistic approach. I'm thinking since it's a lifestyle change that it won't be the same... that my results might last. I hope.
I'm so sick of all the medications and can't imagine what they might have done to my insides after all these years... so onto something else. Holistic/healthy approach.
So for the past month I have:
--completely cut out milk (switched to soy milk)
--limit other dairy (and I love pizza and cheese so much so this is hard)
--limit fried foods (these things are so hard to do when you have a 3 year old and a husband who like EVERYTHING fried)
--went to a chinese herbalist who gave me THE NASTIEST tea I've ever tasted but I've drank it twice a day for the last 2 weeks.
--cut out coffee
--very few sweets if any
--heavy veg/low meat diet
--drinking 3-6 cups of green tea every day
--trying my best to reduce stress
--using Neutrogena Healthy Skin anti wrinkle anti blemish face wash
--using aveno moisterizer (anti redness) with a drop of jajoba oil at night
--on Yaz birth control (which really had no affect on my acne condition)
So now I'm wondering if I can get off Yaz without huge breakouts occuring. I have a big party coming up so don't want to chance it yet. My skin responded to yaz for the first 2-4 months but then it got worse than it's been in a long time so I don't think yaz helps my skin much at all... but afraid to change anything since what I'm doing is working. Any suggestions?
