Is Accutane All That Is Left

05 May 2014 - 10:51 AM

So i have been dieting in some form or other for just over 9 months now. I have tried gluten free, carb free, low GI, no dairy, as little sugar as possible. I have tried liver supplements, b complexes, fish oils, probiotics, benzoyl peroxide, light therapy, vitamin d, meditating, herbal teas, saw palmetto & juicing, and still the acne is consistent. It is so hard trying to stay positive when everything virtually has little effect. I recently had one whole week without any new spots which was the first time in 9 years this had happened but then bam up sprouted 6 more and the cycle has begun again. I really do not want to try accutane and the thing that was stopping me is that my cholestrol was too high but i've recently had it tested and through my diet i have managed to half it from 9 to 5 ( the normal range is between 4 & 5). It feels like the only thing left is accutane as turning down meals, nights out etc etc for the sake of trying to keep my diet 'clean' for my skin is having little effect. I have also been on the regimen since January and whilst my skin is a little clearer it is still very red & inflamed and sore to the touch.

I live in the U.K. and we recently had around two weeks of sunshine and i made sure to have plenty on my skin and still no positive reactions. I'm really getting to the end of my tether in terms of treatments, what have i missed?!?!

Losing Faith

23 March 2014 - 06:01 AM

7 weeks on the regimen so far, 4% BP... skin seems a little clearer but still getting significant breakouts every other day. Skin is very sore and red which makes applying the BP painful, trying to keep the faith but with every new spot that comes up its becoming harder and harder

New Regimen

18 January 2014 - 05:03 AM

Day 2 of the regimen, using U.K. bought ingredients.. can only get 4% BP over here, using cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser. Very very sore and itchy, lots of new whiteheads today.. bring on the journey! eusa_pray.gif

Frustration

12 January 2014 - 06:34 AM

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHY US?!?!

Incredibly frustrated with this acne.. feels like i've addressed all possible issues and nothing seems to work.. tried diets, supplements, exercise, hydration etc etc .. frustrating when you see posts and the poster has cured acne through one specific vitamin/nutrient and you try them and no change. Sometimes i just feel like eating what i want, drinking what i want and facing the fact i could have acne for the rest of my life! Motivation severely lacking!!

ahh feel better now that that mini rant is off my chest. Acne i will beat you one day !!

Fed Up!

05 January 2014 - 12:46 PM

So for the last 5 months i have been following a gluten free, dairy, yeast, often grain and for as much as i possibly could sugar free diet.

Taking -

30 billion strain probiotics

zinc

cod liver oil

total omegas

magnesium & calcium

multivitamin

milk thistle

glutamine

digestive enzymes

psyillium husk

Basically following as close to as i could the anti candida/leaky gut diet and my skin is the worst it has ever been. I have over 30 active spots on my forehead alone, i have read that people say they break out from probiotics and have given up but surely 5 months is long enough for them to have done some kind of good... My skin is an absolute mess! I have lost so much weight from not having grains too.

Whenever i think i am making some sort of progress up pop 3 or 4 painful nodules, work is becoming intolerable due to my appearance and my relationship is definitely suffering... I have tried my hardest to stick to the diet in the hope of some good coming but 5 months with worse skin is surely a sign it isn't working... Accutane isn't an option for me as my cholestrol is high genetically...

Is there ever going to be a light at the end of the tunnel?!?! arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm very active, go to the gym at least 4 times a week, hydration isn't an issue as i consume well over 3 litres of filtered water a day
