I agree with Garrettrichard, microdermabrasion is not going to make a difference, don't waste your money.

It is my opinion that with deeper scars, for best results, some sort of surgical procedure(excision, subcision, punch grafts etc) needs to be done prior to lasers or dermabrasion, because those can only go around 0.35 mm deep (at most)

I think punch elevations could work in your case, if you find an experienced derm/surgeon.Resurfacing procedure (some sort of laser or dermabrasion) should come after, to soften any lines left by punch elevations.

I hope someone from NY can recommend a doctor.Good luck! :)

In Topic: Deep Scar / Ice Pick Scar Cure By Water Fast

Don't do this!

A water fast is NOT going to have any effect whatsoever on your scar.I am positive about this.

It could, however have a detrimental effect on your health.

If the scar really bothers you, have a consult with a dermatologist.

In Topic: Pimple Over Scar?

No, it wouldn't improve the scar. This has happened to me many times.

A pimple that appears over your scar is the same as a pimple appearing anywhere else on your skin.In fact, if you're unlucky and your pimple scars, your original scar could end up looking worse than before.

I guess if you have a rolling scar, or boxcar and then get a big enough pimple over it, during the time that the pimple is active, your scar would be "under the pimple" and therefore not visible. But when the pimple goes away the scar remains as it was, or worse, if the pimple led to more scarring.

Thanks for the explanation blahblah82!

That is what bothers me most about excision - you never know how its gonna turn out.

That sounds way too risky to me, because in some cases you would have to burn 1-2 mm of skin (the depth of an ice pick scar).
