#3293902 How I Cleared My Acne After 26 Years. Try It.

Posted by pinky_shushu on 11 October 2012 - 06:57 AM

Just checking in.

Sometimes I wonder if this regime is better suited to older people?  I'm 38yo and it's working very well for me.

I've fiddled around with it a bit in that, I don't juice because it's too much hassle for me at present (Mum of two young kids) and I still occasionally consume refined sugar products (albeit infrequently compared to my past habits).  I tried adding Zinc for a bit, but noticed my mood fell.  I tried adding Magnesium and Coenzyme Q10 but noted some breakouts reappearing.

What seems to be working brilliantly for me is this:

500mg L-Carnitine first thing in the morning (a little while before breakfast)
1000mg Time-released Pantothenic Acid and 15000iu Vitamin A straight after breakfast.

I'm also taking a 500mg chewable Vitamin C randomly once a day.

Skin is really going great.  I still get a small hormonal related breakout with PMT but very manageable.  Considering I was just about to start taking Diane(tte) contraceptive again, I'm still seeing this all as a majorly uber-fantistic discovery when I stumbled onto this thread.

My energy levels continue to be increased, which I attribute to the L-Carnitine (and possibly also enhanced by the B5 as they work together).

I've just introduced a good probiotic for general increased well-being but I'm not expecting it to make any difference to my skin, although it would be a bonus!

Anyway, shall continue popping in from time to time for an update.

Hi Ruibinbai,

When you say, to the letter, do you mean that you were taking time-released B5 and the L-Carnitine together after eating?  As well as the daily juicing (with an emphasis on Vit A-rich sweet potatoes)? Are you taking any other multi-vitamin or other hits/supps which could be negating the effect of the B5/L-Carnitine?  I found multi-vits, additional zinc & additional magnesium not a good combo with this regime for me.

I had good initial results taking 1000mg time-released B5 with 500mg Carnitine each morning after breakfast. But I did/do still eat some sugar a couple of times a week and I noticed I had a bit of increased oiliness after 8 really good weeks and a few small spots (not as bad as before though and I guess it could have been the lower layers of my epidermis finally making it's way to the surface, who knows?!).  Anyway, I decided to add 7500iu Vitamin A  to the morning B5/L-Carnitine about two weeks ago and Vitamin D (Vit A can deplete Vit D) in the afternoon and I have noticed another significant improvement.  I'm hoping to reduce all of these supplements to the absolute minimum effective amount after a few months.  Ideally:
  • 2500iu Vit A;
  • 500mg B5;
  • 500mg L-Carnitine;
  • 2000iu Vit D
I don't juice but I do very well.  I'm trying to lose weight and am finding that the L-Caritine is helpful for that as well as feeling energised in general.  You might need to increase your fats/carbs intake if you're losing too much weight, I guess.

I took Zinc for a few weeks but it made me moody and irritable, so I cut that out after a week or two.  (I've suspected that Zinc has that effect on me before...weird).

I hope there's something here that you haven't tried that could help. But if it hasn't, don't give up hope of finding the right combination.  After seeing such awesome results for myself just from taking a particular combination of vitamins and supplements, I'm convinced that finding the right recipe is the key.  Luckily for me, my acne origins seem to have a similar pathogenesis as the OP, WingedSerpent.  If I were you, and this combo doesn't work, I'd write a list of all the different vitamins and supplements that seem to have worked for others and try them one by one and see what seems to help/hinder/neutral effect.  And also in different combinations, taking note of which hits/supps are supposed to work in concert together.  Also, I'd steer well clear of any mega-dosing, as WingedSerpent says, it's totally counter intuitive.

Good luck!

Hi there,

I'm a 38yo female.  I've had on/off moderate acne/chest/bacne issues since I was about 14yo.  Diane/Dianette contraceptive pill worked mostly well for me in my early twenties thankfully, but started to lose some efficacy in my late twenties.  I went on a course of roaccutane when I was 28yo which was superb but the acne came back after a few months, although not quite so bad.  Annoying but not catastrophic.  I came off Diane to have children in my early 30's.  I did have a return of acne issues but they weren't quite as bad as my late teens/early twenties.  And fortunately pregnancy seemed to help my acne a wee bit for most of the time.  I finished having kids last year and I noticed my skin become increasingly acne-prone again about 6 mths after my son was born.  On my face, neck, back and chest and oilier hair etc.  Booo.  Lots of microcomedones forming which eventually become inflamed pustules with the rare cyst-like formation.

Anyway, I went to the doc to get a prescription of Diane again although I really didn't want to go on it, and the night before I was due to start taking them I came across this thread here.  I joined this site years ago and was aware of the whole B5 mega-dosing but the concept didn't sit well with me.  I cut dairy, sugar and wheat for 3 months back in 2005 but found no impact on my skin at all.

But reading about the partnership use of L-Carnetine with a normal dose of Pantothenic Acid (B5) made a lot of sense. So I started a week ago!  I'm using the Holland & Barrett brand slow-release Pantothenic Acid (500g) and 500g L-Carnetine twice a day with food.  If things continue to improve I'll drop it back to once a day in due course.   I'm not vege juicing as it's not convenient for me at present but I have a pretty good diet and I have significantly reduced my refined sugar intake to help.  So, hopefully I won't need to take the Diane contraceptive after all, fingers crossed.

Anyway, I have noticed reduction in sebum and also the quality of the oil is changing.  Less greasy for sure.  I'm stoked so far.  I am a bit thirstier and had a few mild headaches (probably from not rehydrating properly and also becoming accustomed to not having my usual amounts of sugar in sugar etc).  But apart from that, I' great!  I using Baking Soda to exfoliate and also Skin Doctors Gamma Hydroxy cream to assist shedding the 'old' skin.

This is the quickest response to any kind of treatment I EVER tried on my skin in 24 years.  I am feeling quite hopeful for the developments over the coming month. But I'll try not to count my chickens before they hatch.  I will report back in July...

I'm not sure if this treatment would have been as effective in my late teens/early twenties when my skin was at it's worst.  Who knows?  I think it would definitely have helped though.  Maybe if I did the juicing and was completely anal about sugar intake, it would have done the trick.  I'll never know.

I shall check back in with some follow up in July Posted Image
