#3469593 Will Spironolactone Heal Existing Cysts?

Posted by tracy521 on 27 January 2015 - 10:55 AM

yeah it sucks but if you arent taking keflex i would look into that. it was the only antibiotic that worked for me after taking so many in the past. your family doctor should be able to prescribe it for you. i would look into using aha and then spot treating with bp for now until you clear up. cysts are the worst though they can take a really long time to go away.

do you have any type of indented scarring? if you just have red and brown marks you dont need anything crazy just get ipl or v-beam for those. that should do the trick. i cant imagine a doctor would do repair on you since your skin looks so good. if i were you i wouldnt take the chance of messing up your beautiful skin.

that is a tough decision. accutane works very well for many people but also can have some bad side effects. the 2 women i know personally that have taken it have had their acne come back. the 2 men i know that have taken it never had their acne come back. i would say your acne is hormonal but your chin area looks clear. have you had your hormones checked just to be sure? talk to your doc about the hormonal thing and then for now i would try keflex to clear that up and then you can decide what you want to do after that. i take spironolactone which blocks the androgen receptors in the body and it works very well for me but my acne was mostly in the lower part of my face. do you break out all month long or just around your period?

I would just like to note that sometimes with severe acne going the natural route doesnt work. I spent alot of time eliminating things from my diet them saw an allergy doctor and had food testing done then lastly i saw a naturopath who wasted more of my cash and made my skin so much worse. Only thing that worked was a course of keflex and then spiro. I gave up everything and spent prob 50k over 16 yrs to try and clear up my skin. Now i can enjoy life again and dont worrg about every single thing i eat or drink or put on my skin.

what type of fraxel? i had 1 session of the fraxel restore dual and i would say it didnt do very much. i almost think of it as a glorified ipl where my skin turned brown and had a sandpaper feel to it and then a few days later it peeled off. some of my indented scarring looks a bit better after a few months but i think to get decent results you have to get between 5-6 sessions. the place i go to has the fraxel restore dual and that is supposed to work a lot better because it has a 1927 laser & the 1550 laser. i might try that if i dont get dermabrasion done.

one thing to note is that the laser hurts like a biatch! i've had chemical peels, ipl's, various laser treatments etc and this one hurt the worst. i felt like somebody was putting a blow torch to my face and that was after 1.5 hours of having numbing cream applied. so anyway they can do the procedure quick like 10-15 minutes so once you get through that your face is hot and then it quickly subsides. good luck to you!

yeah i wouldnt get cautery done for raised scars. it can leave indents in the skin and make them look a lot worse. i would definitely massage them with vitamin e daily and see what happens. i'vae heard when the scars are newer that is the best thing to do. i think it takes a few years for them to fully mature.

i wish i would have done that with my raised scars but i am trying that now before i book my appointment for dermabrasion. i figure at this point it cant hurt.

awe hang in there shadylee! i can relate so much to what you are going through and it really is the hardest thing ever. its an emotional roller coaster but i do believe spiro is going to work very well for you i just know it. is there any antibiotic you can take at all? i really believe that will help you so much if there is something that you can take. i am glad that you have been going to work this week. the more you get out the better you will feel and that will help your skin too. the constant stress of it i do believe makes things so much worse. lol if you like to drink i would hit a dark bar and get your drink on this weekend and just have fun. enjoy some of your favorite comfort food or whatever it is that helps to make you happy right now and know i am here for you. you can pm me if you want to talk more. sending prayers and hugs your way

aw shadylee, i just want to give you a great big hug right now and tell you its all going to be ok. i know how awful you are feeling and its really just the worst feeling in the world but you will get through it. you are so much stronger than you think you are. my best advice is to not look at your face all day at work even though i know you want to just try at least for today to not look at it. also stop bringing your mirror with you because it just makes the anxiety so much worse.

i know what you mean about the cysts because i would get one injected and then another one would pop up next to that one and then another one next to that. it just looks so odd when you have like 3 cysts right next to each other because it looks like one big one. when you get home tonight try to ice the cysts and take 2 aleve or ibuprofen that should help the swelling a bit. so is there any other antibiotic you can try at all that wont make your tinnitus worse? i believe that will really help the bad breakout you are getting now. i wonder if you can just take keflex for say 2 weeks or if it would make things worse? if not your derm can always put you on prednisone just for like 5-7 days to calm everything down. that stuff works very well but some derms are hesitant to go that route.

anyway keep your chin up girl and just try to breathe and know that it will get better. i do believe spiro will work for you i do its just going to take time.

I totally get how you both feel I did the same thing almost 2 years ago when my skin was really bad. I just stopped exercising, talking to friends, going out etc. I cried every single day and prayed to god that the nightmare would end and that spiro would work for me. After I got clear I was so crazy happy until I noticed all the scarring which almost pushed me over the edge. It probably took me until a year later to get back to feeling a bit normal and seeing all my friends again and stuff. I still feel weird when I am outside around people but its slowly getting easier. It's so crazy though I remember thinking before all of that mess that my face wasn't that great because I had a few red marks and oh man I would kill to go back to that time and just enjoy life and smack myself for being so crazy about things. Anyway what I am trying to get at is that at some point you will both get clear and then you can slowly start picking up the pieces and enjoying life again.

The only advice I can give to you is to just force yourself to work anyway and try to go out and enjoy life as much as you can for now. Don't become a recluse because later on it just gets harder and harder to see people. I know that things are going to get better though and that one day this whole mess will be a distant memory. Hugs to you both!

yeah i can see being scared for sure about the tinnitus with the keflex. the only thing i can say is to try it and see how it goes. yeah mine went away it lasted i think for at least 5 years or so. the doctor said it would probably never go away too but thank god it did. it never really bothered me except for when i would go to sleep but many times i would just put on my ceiling fan and that would drown out the noise.

i sure hope spiro can help you since you have been through so much. you deserve to have something go your way for once. keep me posted on your progess and try to hang in there!

good luck to you! i think the spiro will work so well for you but i think you need at least 100mg a day for it to really work. i tried everything myself and had cystic acne on and off for years and am 37 now and spiro is the only thing that has 100% worked for me over the long term. this dec will be 2 years on it and it has really saved my life. i no longer have to worry about what will be popping on my face everyday and my anxiety levels are slowly going down even though i am still trying to fix my scarring. i've had no side effects at all so i think you will be fine. i was so nervous too and put it off for a few years but everything has been fine with me. also just to note a lot of people have had normal hormone levels and still have hormonal acne and take spiro. good luck to you!
i would get on a good quality antibiotic though when you start just to avoid any bad breakouts.

i use proactiv toner it works really well and is cheap. i get it on ebay for like $8 for a decent size bottle. i do think witch hazel toner works is good stuff but the proactiv toner might work better for you. it does have witch hazel in it as well and is pretty gentle on the skin. i only use it once a day but you can use it twice a day but beware it will dry out your skin unless you are using a good moisturizer. omg yeah i dont think derms really know that much either every derm i have had has always put me on retinoids and my skin cant tolerate them no matter how long i use them for. last time i tried retin-a i got a bad cystic breakout on my chin and the derm was like well yeah retin-a and all retninoids have the ability to make those clogged pores turn into cysts for some people so after that i was beyond done with that stuff. i just use the toner once a day and spot treat with bp and thats it. i think sometimes less is more when it comes to that stuff but if you try the toner and like it then you can always try the lotion on this site it has 10% glycolic acid vs 6% in the toner.

yeah it really is a struggle because it really gets you down on yourself. i lost so much weight last year i was so upset and just was so damn depressed. nobody understands it unless they have gone through it themselves ya know? its like after a while you are just done dealing with it. yeah call around and see if you can get those cysts injected. what i did last year when my derm was booked i would call every derm in the area until one could fit me in. also some medical spas do injections as well so cant hurt to exhaust every option. those ones near the mouth are a bitch they hurt so damn bad! i was living off aleve just for the pain i can feel you on that. try icing them and take some aleve or ibuprofen today that should help a bit with the swelling and inflammation.

take care of yourself and just keep hanging in there but yeah i would ditch that tazorac like stat!

taking 2 aleve twice a day and then putting AHA and then BP over cysts seems to work pretty well. i would ice them too that helps a lot.

seriously though i know you said you have been on tazorac for a while but were you breaking out on it before starting spiro? i would seriously consider switching to AHA because it works very well and most people do really well on it. it will also help with any red marks too so its a like a double bonus. the tazorac is probably chewing up your skin!

#3447395 Brown Mark On Chin, Please Help

Posted by tracy521 on 15 August 2014 - 07:48 AM

i can barely see those spots at all and a good concealer would cover those right up. its nothing to worry about but it could take months for the mark to go away. you can do ipl to get rid of the spot a lot quicker but it will cost you at least $125 or more for a spot treatment (they zap between 10-15 spots)
