#3426596 My Spiro Log

Posted by tracy521 on 16 April 2014 - 08:58 AM

good luck to you! its crazy i always had chest and back breakouts and when i started spiro they went away completely i think in the first month. it took about a full 6 months for spiro to work on my face but i think you will have good success with it. i take 100mg a day and have had no issues with it at all.

#3426391 Feeling Annoyed.

Posted by tracy521 on 15 April 2014 - 07:37 AM

While the skin may clear you still suffer from the psychological effects that can be perpetuated by the social effects of acne. Its not something that readily goes away. You will always have feelings of anxiety, especially when you have a relapse. The main thing is to remain strong and move forward. Healing takes time. But you are generally never the same person afterwards.

you couldn't have said that any better that is 100% how i feel after the bad breakout i had last year. the only good thing that came out of this mess for me was that it made me a much better person and i no longer get upset about the little things. i also am more appreciative of life in general now and am a more caring person.

#3424866 Best Way To Apply Foundation.

Posted by tracy521 on 07 April 2014 - 08:21 AM

i just use my hands after i have washed them really well. i find if i use a sponge that 1. it absorbs most of the product and 2. the makeup goes on a lot lighter than how i want it. my hands do the best job of blending it. sometimes if i want a much lighter look then i mix my foundation with my moisturizer and apply it that way.

#3424852 Someone With Experience With Toners, Please!

Posted by tracy521 on 07 April 2014 - 07:17 AM

i use a toner daily and it works great at removing my makeup and the dead skin. i use the proactiv one with glycolic acid and it is great stuff i cant say enough about it. its no wonder i was breaking out so bad before because the amount of makeup and dead skin that is on the cotton ball after cleansing is just gross. the glycolic acid in the toner keeps my pores nice and clear as well.

if you want something that is more gentle use thayers alcohol free toner that stuff works pretty well too.

#3421504 Acne Scarring With Pics Lf Advice

oh hell no i would not do any sort of laser for your skin. it looks really good to me. i wouldnt even think twice about it. microdermabrasian is good it will help clear up any leftover acne you have but really believe me when i say you have good skin. i cant believe anybody would recommend laser to you.

#3420814 Advice And Encouragement Plea!

Posted by tracy521 on 17 March 2014 - 10:56 AM

hey just wanted to say to hang in there. i really believe it takes up to 6 months to really kick in so just be patient even though its hard. best thing to do is to keep yourself really busy so you have less time to focus on it and also working out really helps to boost your mood so do that everyday if you can. even if you just go outside for a nice walk that will help your stress level a lot. just remember that it will get better in time even though right now it doesnt seem that way.

#3419510 Micro Laser Peel + Profractional

Posted by tracy521 on 10 March 2014 - 07:45 AM

i had a microlaser peel with an ipl back in june. it was 20 microns deep with 2 passes. lol my face felt like it was on fire after it was done but after them cooling it off for an hour and then being slathered with aquaphor it didnt feel too bad. you have to keep the aquaphor on the face for 2 days which sucks because its so sticky and annoying and gets on everything. you have to sleep with your head propped up too for a few days but around the 3rd day your skin will start to turn brown and peel. i think i was done peeling by day 5 or so. i have heard doing the profractional with the microlaser peel really helps. i got a little bit of improvement (for my indented scarring but it did nothing for my raised scarring) from doing it but if i did it again i would definitely go at least 60 microns deep or even up to 100 but i think its best to work your way up with those. most times they sell them in series of 3 treatments.

just a few things dont take any aleve, iburprofen etc 10 days before your procedure. take at least 500mg of vitamin c 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after and ask about what antibiotics and stuff you should take beforehand as well. they prescribed me an anti-viral a few days before and a few days afterwards and the keflex (generic cephalexin) 2 days before and 5 days after as well. good luck to you!

#3418785 Another Spiro Log

Posted by tracy521 on 06 March 2014 - 03:17 PM

if your skin is that bad why not beg the derm for keflex to take for 4-8 weeks? that stuff worked so well i stopped breaking out in 5 days after taking it. it saved my life and my skin from anymore scarring so it was totally worth it. i was supposed to start accutane around the time i asked for keflex so that was like my last shot. so glad that it worked i never had to go on accutane. i am on 100mg spiro a day and have been so for over a year. i will say every single time my dose was upped i got a bad breakout it was awful.  ugh!

its fine to take spiro and accutane together because like my derm said the accutane would have cleared me up but that i would most likely start breaking out after i got off of it unless i stayed on the spiro since my acne was hormonal. anyway keep on the spiro and ask for the keflex. i tried bactrim about 6 years ago and had a bad allergic reaction from it. took 2 weeks for the reaction to really set in and when it did i had a 103 degree temperature and had to take steroids for 6 days. no fun there but you wont know if you are allergic until you try it. good luck to you - keep your chin up!

one more note if your skin is bad enough the derm can give you prednisone to calm everything down.

#3417028 If Doxy And Minocycline Didn't Work, Will Tetracycline?

Posted by tracy521 on 27 February 2014 - 09:36 AM

i think if you haven't had any luck with those antibiotics then the tetracycline probably wont work very well for you but you should ask your derm what they think.  you could try bactrim (as long as you arent allergic to sulfa drugs) and there is erythromycin and then lastly you could try keflex. that stuff was a miracle worker for me and it worked in 5 days. i was at the point where no other antibiotic would work so that is why i went that route because i had tried every single other one. i took 500mg twice a day.

here is a list of antibiotics most commonly used for acne:

http://dermatology.a...s/a/acneabx.htm

one thing to note is that you need a good regimen as well as the antibiotics. what do you currently use on your face? if you dont use an AHA/BHA daily i would add that right away.

#3416620 Spiro User, Need Encouragement!

Posted by tracy521 on 25 February 2014 - 05:01 PM

Yeah for sure see what the derm says. I was on doxy on and off for 2 years and had no side effects and was on keflex for 11 months with no issues as well and years before that i took minocycline, amoxicillin and even bactrim for a bit and was fine too. You should be just fine if you stay on the doxy longer. By the way your skin looks amazing in the second pic!! You look great!

I am so happy with my skin today. It hasnt been this clear and smooth in a long time. I have a little cyst trying to form on my chin and I still have the cluster under my jaw but overall my skin hasnt looked this goodin a long time. I finally found a foundation that is a good match for my skin tone and paired with the right concealer I am able to cover my scars! I hope the Spiro and BC are working and not just the Doxy. Ill be getting off the Doxy after I finish this month's Rx and it kind of makes me nervous. Maybe at some point I will work up the courage to post some progress pics.

well that is good news! glad to hear that things are looking up. as far as the doxy goes i would be leary about getting off of it so quick. i would wait until you are closer to the 6 month mark and then slowly wean off of it and see how it goes or you can drop down the dose to 50mg twice a day and see what happens. right now its probably just the doxy keeping you clear so if you get off of it before the spiro kicks in you could be in trouble.

my derm always had me take doxy in 6 month intervals but not sure what your derm recommended for you. ask them to see what they think before you do anything.

#3416537 Any Ortho-Tri-Cyclen People Out There?

Posted by tracy521 on 25 February 2014 - 09:25 AM

i took ortho tri-cyclen for years and all it did was make my acne worse. the only time my skin got better was the week of my sugar pill and i think its because it was a triphasic pill.  i think monophasic pills would be the best since they deliver the same amount of estrogen and progestin everyday but then again i would recommend spironolactone before the pill any day of the week. it works and i feel its a lot safer than the pill.

#3415413 Cortisone Injection On Jawline Cyst, Red Scalp/scar After 2 Weeks And It Stil...

Posted by tracy521 on 20 February 2014 - 08:35 AM

what i would do is i would call the derm and tell them what is going on and then make an appointment to be seen right away. i am sure its not cancerous or anything but you should get it checked out. that way you know what it is and how it can be treated. i am sure they can give you something to help with it.

i just assumed it was still a cyst but if its totally flat then its not a cyst. anyway go and get it checked out.
