#3475867 Spironolactone Journey

Posted by tracy521 on 25 March 2015 - 09:04 AM

i know what you mean about the resistance but i do think when times are hard and the skin is a mess a short course can really help. the scrub with salicylic acid should help a bit too. heck yeah i see so many deals on groupon and living social daily its great news! just make sure to do your research first so you pick a good place. you are very welcome for the advice and yeah you can ask the people there at ulta they should be able to help you. i did look on their site and noticed they dont offer too many peels but sephora does and you can order online.
yeah i know how you feel its like your skin consumes your life which is just so awful and after a while it just really wears you out. oh no i sure hope you heal up fast from your injury too! geesh you got a lot going on at once. please keep me updated on things and take care of yourself.

yeah i really think that the switching of the manufacturer of spiro was like starting over and then switching back is like starting once again. you are going to have to give your skin a few months to adjust but for now i would get back on antibiotics for a bit to help with the bad breakout you are going through right now.
sorry you cant afford going to an esthetician but if you ever get some cash check groupon or living social they always have deals. i think the last facial with extractions i had was about $60. those sites might offer them for about half price. also you can buy peels at ulta and sephora that are great for your skin. i am a huge glycolic acid fan it really helps keep those pores clear but if you cant afford that you can get the AHA from this site and try that out. its not super expensive or anything and i think it will really work for you. i have sensitive skin as well so when i use AHA these days (i've had laser lately) i have to use it like every other day but even a few times a week would probably help you out. i would skip the aquaphor that is a known pore clogger.

yeah its tough for you with the derm because you have tried so many things so really what is left ya know? i do believe this is all due to the switching of spiro brands so get the antibiotic for a bit, switch up your skincare routine and try to not stress so much. i know the stress part is hard but for myself working out really helps with the anxiety and that general feeling of doom. what else do you like to do in your spare time? try to throw yourself into something that takes your mind off your skin a bit and whatever you do dont carry a mirror around with you in your purse.

stay strong and you can message me anytime. hugs!

#3473860 Will Spironolactone Heal Existing Cysts?

Posted by tracy521 on 06 March 2015 - 03:46 PM

yeah for sure i wish i had never took birth control ever in my life. i dont know why it took me so long to make the connection though - ugh! you can quit now if you want since you are on antiobiotics it should catch most of the acne that would pop up from that. keflex is a generic name for cephalexin which is an antibiotic thats been around for a long time. http://www.drugs.com/cephalexin.html - there are many generic forms of it out there.

if you have had no acne since doxy then its probably already kicked in. every antibiotic i took in the past has never cleared my existing acne like keflex did. its crazy how it worked for me. well thats good the derm drained your cysts. my cysts were the type that were never able to be drained but thats good you didnt need the shots. you wont have to worry about atrophy at least. i bet your skin is looking pretty good now then.

i really dont think accutane will do anything for your hormonal acne. my derm used to always tell me that accutane would shut down all the acne i had on my skin and clear me up while i was on it but that once i got off of it that it would just come back so that is why i was always hesitant to even go down that road. i do agree the diane is a temporary fix and since spiro works so well i dont see why you would need or want to be on the pill as well. i would wait at least 6-9 months before attempting to go on accutane and since you are clear now i wouldnt even bother with it.

Your welcome! Oh yeah I used to get tons of cortisone shots. If you get one just make sure its diluted so you dont get an indent. They suck but at the time it was the only way to get rid of my cysts. I only had 1 cyst back in June of 2013 but besides that my face has been super clear. It was clear as soon as I started the keflex and then when I got off of it. Every so often I get a tiny bump but it goes away pretty darn quickly. I do use witch hazel toner in the morning and evening and then every other night I use my AHA toner to keep my pores clear. What I have found now is that if I do get a clogged pore it doesnt turn into anything like it used to before there is no inflammation in my skin at all. Before I went on Spiro I tried everything over the last 16 years to try and clear my skin. I spent thousands from over the counter stuff and then tried pretty much every prescription product as well as I tried gluten free, dairy free, carb free, alcohol & sugar free as well as I even avoided caffeine. I also got chemical peels, ipls, laser, microdermabrasion and was on 7 different antibiotics. The list goes on and on and on -ha! So anyway whenever I started keflex I just stopped doing all the stupid diet stuff and just went back to how I ate before and have had no issues. I can eat junk food, drink alcohol, caffeine etc. This pill has been a miracle for me and just made me realize that my acne was hormonal all along which is why I believe the pill screwed up my hormones for good. Nobody else in my family has ever had acne let alone cystic acne so it definitely wasn't a genetic thing. One more thing too when I get stressed out now I dont break out either like I used to before spiro

Good idea about the probiotic with the keflex especially since you are taking a high dose of it. I never took one with keflex I did with other antibiotics and was lucky it didnt mess up my system at all. I'm always so amazed I never had a  yeast infection or anything. Yeah IBS I hear is hard to deal with so hopefully the meds dont trigger anything. If you ever want to talk more you can message me on this site. I am always here for you. I made it a point to always try and help out other people once I got clear because there were times I felt so alone and like nobody understood me so I dont want anybody else to feel that way. Take care

hello! yeah it sounds like we had the same experience with Keflex. i am still on 100mg of spiro and have been on it since dec 2012. i started at 25mg and then after a week or so went up to 50mg then 75mg then 100mg. i took Keflex 500mg twice per day for about 10 months or so. i'm sure i could have weaned myself off of it way before then but i really wanted to be sure that the spiro was working so a few months before i was done i went down to 1 pill a day for a while then 1 pill every other day and then 1 pill every 3-4 days.

that is great that you are having such great success with Keflex and i would go with what your derm says and stay on the Keflex for a good while and then slowly wean off of it. i think after a bit though i would probably ask the derm about going down to a lower dose though just to be safe. so they have it in a shot version? yeah i never had any side effects with it either thank goodness i think its a real miracle worker. there is a girl i met on this site that told me about how well Keflex worked for her so i have her to thank for telling me about it. it was really my last resort before Accutane.

well keep me updated on things and i wish you continued success with spiro and the Keflex.

It was crazy they just totally went away like 5 days later I woke up and they were gone it was the best thing like in the world. The nodules I had for a few months went away as well.  I was at the lowest point in my entire life and that stuff was like a miracle. I never had any antibiotics work that fast ever. Yeah if Doxy isn't working then try Keflex but I think it takes Doxy a few weeks to kick in so give it time. Keflex is stronger so sometimes they are hesitant to offer it up right away. I had to beg my derm for it because I was just about to start Accutane but thank goodness I didn't have to go that route.

#3471533 Help Please :(, What Type Of Acne Do I Have And How Do I Fight It. Sorry For...

Posted by tracy521 on 13 February 2015 - 02:50 PM

Hey I would follow what other people have said and do the acne.org regimen with the AHA they sell on this site as well. That should really help you. Your pores probably got all clogged up from only using water and not exfoliating your skin.

you just need to baby your face for now the redness will go away just give it time. look for a mineral makeup that should help it look a bit better.

#3471405 My Experience With Fractional Lasers (Before After Pics)

Posted by tracy521 on 12 February 2015 - 02:15 PM

i think your skin is looking a lot better. those deeper scars seem to be filling in pretty nicely. i would probably just keep doing the restore if i were you since you seem to be getting pretty good results from it as well as i would think about subcision too. how many more do they want to do?

Thanks Do you have any pics of your own progress posted?
They wanted me to take a break until next autumn and do some IPL right, which I found silly, cause it won't do anything for me. Later they want me to do another course of 3 or 4 procedures.
So confusing... Can't figure out if I should do ablative or not... :/

Nah I wish. I took some pics before I started laser back in 2013 but when I got a new phone they all disappeared -blah! So far I've done the erbium laser, then 2 co2's, a few ipl's then 2 fraxel restores. All I want is my raised scars flattened I cant figure out why its so hard they arent even that raised they just look super weird if that makes any sense. I did see a plastic surgeon that wanted to do dermabrasion on the chin area and I was going to do it until they told me I had to be off spiro for 2 weeks which is way too scary for me to think about right now. I wanted him to just numb me up and do the surgery while I was awake but he wont do that so for now I will do a few more restores then re-assess and go from there.
As far as ablative goes the erbium and the co2 i had were fully ablative and I didnt see much of a result but I think if you are going to do it you gotta go pretty darn deep to even get down to the scar. I almost think in many ways dermabrasion is so much better because the surgeon can go a lot deeper (its not set on a certain setting like laser but there is more room for error in a way) and customize the treatment for the particular scar but most times they wont even do that until subcision has been done. I would think they would want the scar raised up as much as possible so that the dermabrasion could be done just to finish it off.

I know fraxel repair goes pretty deep but i know the recovery is longer as well. I would go see a few more docs and really do your research and then mention the various lasers and what they can do and go from there. Ask about spot dermabrasion too. The more informed you are the more it will help you decide what is best.

#3471041 Does Regimen Help With Hormonal Acne?

Posted by tracy521 on 09 February 2015 - 02:11 PM

Its safer because there is no chance of blood clots and it doesn't have any hormones in it so it just blocks the androgen receptors in the body. I have been on it for over 2 years its amazing stuff. You can get it from your dermatologist or an endocrinologist. Go the hormonal section of this forum and search for spironolactone you will see many posts about it.

It would probably help a bit but most likely wont keep you totally clear. Why don't you try spiro? I believe its safer than the pill and works really well for hormonal acne. Go see your derm and see what they have to say. I am surprised they haven't recommended this to you by now.

#3469793 How To Get Over Acne Depression? Please Help I'm Desperate

Posted by tracy521 on 29 January 2015 - 01:22 PM

I really feel for you and can relate a bit because I have scarring as well. Its not severe but its enough to make me depressed from time to time. I work full time so that forces me out of the house everyday which helps but I went through a stretch when my acne was bad where I wouldnt see anybody (well except for my hubby) but that just made me feel more alone. I had to force myself to hang out with my friends and see my family and do things I am not comfortable with because I have a life to live and I need to make it worthwhile ya know? Its been a few years now since I got my scarring and I have done lots of treatments with no sucesss but I keep trying new things just to see if I can get some sort of results. I feel like with scarring its hard to get past it because you see it every single day when you look at yourself and when you are a woman its so much harder but thank god for makeup. It has helped me be able to go out and not feel like such a freak. I would say your first step should be to get a therapist and work on your ptsd and then from there you can maybe think about starting a part time job at least for now to get some money coming in. Did you go to college? Is there something you can do in your field? I think with your friends they probably picked up on your self-consciousness and weren't quite sure what to say to you. I noticed if I brought up my acne or scarring to my friends it lightened the mood and then I could share how I was feeling about certain situations. They were very receptive to listen I think they werent just sure what to say to me.

For now your best bet is to avoid mirrors at all costs and try to get out of the house. Even if its just to go see a movie its better than being cooped up all the time. If you have too much time to think it can really screw with your mind. I am sending you many hugs and if you ever need to talk you can pm on this site.
