If you have a big acne cyst let the dr. inject it with a diluted cortisone shot.I am a nurse and prone to acne scar also.last jan 2008 I got pissed off because I let the dr. lance the cyst(it has a small pus on it), after 3 days it become infected turned into a pus without  healing . Then after 1 week there is a crater from a healing pus(the crust went off), shit I hate it.
That’s my biggest regret coz if I let it inject the early then it wont develop pus and scarring.  In the past I always tell my dr. to inject a dilated cortisone .01 ml..Remember 1 tuberculin syringe is 1.0ml so there is 10 of .1ml in 1 tuberculin syringe.  Tell the dr. to inject only .01ml of cortisone and it wont scar I promise you. Coz if you wont inject it cyst will turn into a pus and there is prone scarring if it turned into a pus. The porpose of cortisone is to lower the inflammation and will not pus the cyst. Lastly cortisone injection in some doctors do not inject cyst if more than 5 days it must be less than 4 days.thats it

this happened to me..out of nowhere i started getting cystic acne by my chin.like huuuge..about an inch wide also...the dermn will def recommend a steroid shot...just be careful cuz the problem with those things is that the steroid may leave an indent in your skin...i asked my derm about this and he said that with a lower dosage this may not happen..so it may be worth discussing with ur derm

you mentioned that your acne is 1 inch?does it become dented as you inject it wilth a cortisone?

I had the same situation - generally very mild acne, never got cysts or nodules.  Did get one small pea sized nodule on my jawline that my esthetician couldn't extract because it was too deep under the skin.

When I finally went to a cosmetic derm to have it extracted, it had been on my jawline for about 4 months.  He applied a local anesthetic, extracted the core and applied some cortisone.  It shrunk considerably right away, but it still took a couple months for the residual bump to fade and the slight indentation from the cortisone injection to go away.  Its gone now, and it didn't scar.  I think its been about 6 or 7 months since I had it extracted.  Very happy with the procedure.  I would recommend going to a derm that has experience with cosmetic surgery - I think the are much more cognizant about scarring issues.

Hi willow 569, can i ask the ff:
1.  you mention that your derm extracted acne, so did it scar the first time?
2.  Was it indented?
3. if indented how many months does it heal?
