Small, Red, Pimple-Like Lumps... What The Hell Are These? Help If You Know :(

12 May 2014 - 08:39 PM

Hi,

So i've used the regimen for about a year now... and I am currently clear with maybe very small pimples here and then.

However, I've had a month of mid  semester exams for university.... and this might be stress related, i don't know... but lately... well, maybe for the past week? Small red, pimple-like lumps are coming up. These ARENT pimples... they're very small... much like very sand-grain sized (smaller than that) little lumps under the skin... Is this just irritation? or is this jus stress induced? It's also starting Winter over here, so could be dry skin? IM NOT SURE!

I have been easing off the BP to maybe 1 night BP then 3 nights AHA/BHA, which works like a dream for me as i've found its kept my face clear, and ever since these 'lumps' have started appearing I've been on BP on every other night/more frequently (i.e. like maybe 1 night BP, 1 night AHA/BHA or just moisturiser) and they've only SLIGHTLY improved... but not by much at all.

My question is...

1: Does anyone actually KNOW what these 'lumps' are, and what causes them? It seems no one knows, and its so frustrating!

2: Does anyone know what to do to get these 'lumps' to go away? If you've had them, how did you make them disappear?

3: Tell me if you've had them/or have them right now... is this just me?!

These 'lumps' don't add on to my acne... like, they don't make my face look like a massive mess like it was before, but whenever i'm cleansing it jus feels so uncomfortable, and it kind of scares me that my acne is coming back. They're very small, red, and don't hurt.

They're annoying though.

Please help. I'm getting desperate with this. I want to get on top of this before it gets worse.

Thank you! :(

Has Anyone Tried Easing Off The Regime After Getting Clear?... Need Help/advice

16 November 2013 - 08:26 AM

Hi guys,

Ive been on the Regimen for about 5 and a bit months now, and I've been clear for about a month and a half with only one of two breakouts. Ive started and always kept to doing the Regimen only once per day at nighttime (for those of you who don't want to use the regimen during the day- it works once a day too!).

My question is has anyone tried to cut back on the regimen applications to lets say... once every 2 or 3 days? like, 1 day use the regimen, the next 2 days use BHA/AHA moisturiser, then repeat that cycle. Because i've found that with using the regimen every night my face during the day sometimes is red, and i can't go into the sun (which annoys me the most).

I figured that if i cut back to using the regimen maybe once every so or so days will help my skin regenerate the skin layers so my skin won't be so vulnerable to the harsh sun, while also keeping clear at the same time.

Has anyone tried this? If you've tried easing off the Regimen like I'm trying to (not easing off permanently! just not doing it everyday), please tell me what you did and if it worked for you! I'd like to know.

Thanks!

Is Benzoyl Peroxide Stronger When New?

25 August 2013 - 09:56 AM

Hi guys,

I was just wondering, is Benzoyl Peroxide stronger when its from a new bottle? I dont use Dan's products, im using Galderma's Benzac 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide.

Im on maybe just above the 2 month mark, and i just got tolerance to it a couple of weeks ago. Today i finished a bottle/tube of Benzac, and i just opened a new one except now within 15 minutes of application my face burns and is pretty red in places.

Im not sure if its just me and just to not worry about it, but would the new bottle someone have a higher concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide (i.e. the proper 2.5%)? My thinking is that i got tolerance to Benzoyl peroxide because maybe the BP in my old tube somehow (if possible) decomposed to another harmless substance and was less than 2.5% (and hence kinder to my skin), or got diluted somehow? (not that i mix it with water or put it anywhere near water...)

I just don't know why my face is suddenly red and burning... its weird. SOMEONE TELL ME/HELP!

IS THIS DECOMP/DILUTING POSSIBLE? I really, really, really dont want to go through the whole "hardening effect" thing again... :(

2 Month Update: Regimen Once/day. Very Oily, Sensitive Asian Skin

28 July 2013 - 11:37 AM

HELLO COMMUNITY,

So recently (well... not so recently) i started the Regimen, and let me say first off that its been one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life! So if your struggling and you need something that WILL work for you then The Regimen is the key! I recommend seriously starting it, and just have patience and persistence to keep going. Just always remember that you're suffering/being embarrassed now for the absolutely clear skin you will get on the other side.

... and trust me... its worth it.

SO a little background on me and my skin: Im male. 20. Asian. Very oily, sensitive skin. I have acne vulgaris, or in other words cystic acne.

So now its been nearly 2 months since ive started the Regimen. ... and yes, i do the Regimen only once a day. My experience with the Regimen in the beginning stages (as ive tried to start going on the regimen maybe 3-4 times in the past) is that if i put my skin through 2 applications of BP + moisturizer, i will (1) wreak absolute major havoc on my face in terms of itchiness, SUPER redness, burning sensations etc. all day. (2) i have oily skin... and i know that im not supposed to do this, but i feel that if i do go out during the day wearing the BP and moisturizer around i would look like an oil factory but on my face. Even wearing sunscreen makes me look like a mini oil factory, let alone having BP AND moizturizer on my face... phew... Hence, both reasons attributing to my decision to go on the Regimen with a single application/day system.

So far I cant say that its been a cake walk... there have been times where my skin has been so red, or subtly red making me look like I've constantly been sun bathing all day everyday... and not to mention the itchiness of it all sometimes drives me completely insane. Its so hard not to itch it and irritate my skin even more, but HEY as i said before you need to suck it up to get to the other side. I guess thats all the side effects ive gotten- only the major ones. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS FOR YOU TO START SLOWLY! Please start SO SO SO slowly. Your skin will thankyou for it, and so will your self esteem. I know mine did...

With the once-a-day application, i am currently in my EIGHTH WEEK and i need to admit to you guys that my progress (in terms of side effects going away AND in terms of acne clearing) is slower than you would perceive/get if you were to do the regimen with the normal twice-a-day application (obviously). All through the first month and up to now, i still have a red face although within the second month ive noticed that my face has gotten alot more tolerant to the BP and the redness has died down quite abit, albeit still slightly red (now its like a soft pink glow...).

Up till recently ive still broken out although not like i used to. Now its a break out here and there, maybe approximately two big pimples a week? with maybe some smaller ones here and there but all of it is manageable... especially with the knowledge that im treating it, and thoughts such as "that suckas gonna get some oxidizing shit storm goin on tonight" which makes me feel better rolleyes.gif Especially with the BP waiting time, Dan recommends about 15 minutes, but sometimes i like to leave it on for at least 30 minutes to 45 mins... just to make sure that it REALLY sinks in and that it dries out properly.

So right now my skin is acne free. For some odd reason, ive been breaking out on my left cheek but not on my right so my right cheek is absolutely clear and with no acne scars whatsoever, but my left cheek has maybe 2 or 3 dark scars on it. Its slowly fading quickly though.

Maybe its a bit too quick to say that ive gotten to the clear skin stage since ive only been clear for maybe a week now? But usually when i cleanse/apply BP i can feel new pimples coming up and this week so far i havent felt anything so im taking that as a good sign!

The only bad thing is that ive noticed this week is that my skins pretty dry during the day. As a guy, im embarrassed to say to my friends that I'm desperately insecure about my skin and that im trying to fix it and wearing moisturizer or putting on sunscreen during the day is a 'hell no' thing for me (although redness sometimes leaves me no choice) as they can clearly see it and often ask why my skins so oily... I also hate the feeling of an oily face in general so yeah... But so far its caused no problems for me! I especially feel the dryness after i cleanse in the morning. It just feels tight and on the verge or flakiness (but i've so far gotten 0 flakiness in this whole process) but not quite there...

I'm feeling pretty good about my progress! Its worked absolutely awesome on my skin and for my self esteem... i can now look someone in the eye for the whole conversation ahhaaha. The reason why i wanted to post this in the forum main feed is that i know alot of guys out there are struggling too, and most of the people who post on here are girls, so i thought id help out in the male gender department hifive.gif

I actually want to know if there are ANY OF YOU who are the same as me and do the Regimen only once a day, and i would like to know your progression in terms of getting acne free? Is yours the same as mine? Please comment below about what you think of what ive done so far.

OH ALSO: does anyone know of a really good VERY hydrating moisturiser for me? I first started using Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin (AUD$14/118mL)but i found that it doesnt moisturize me well enough and my face was really red all the time, so i switched to Avene Hydrance Optimale (AUD$40/40mL tub) and the redness reduced SO much. Its pretty expensive if i keep using Avene although its pricey, its seriously good and worth the money... if there are no alternatives i dont mind spending the money, but if there are other really good moisturisers that are very very hydrating for a cheaper cost then ill gladly switch! (Please recommend only Over The Counter moisturisers. Not Dan's moisturiser).

Thanks guys!

Happy Clearing!

Rickstascale over and out.

Starting The Regimen- Very Sensitive, Reactive, Oily Asian Skin

09 June 2013 - 09:41 PM

Hi... i know that i said i was going to start this ages ago, and i did... but instead of making up excuses im just going to tell the truth to you guys: i couldn't get over the redness factor so i stopped. i just couldn't bear to have my friends look at me and go 'wtf is wrong with you?' Im just so insecure about my acne. I dont have a huge amount of acne, but its my 1 achilles heel that can bring me down to the floor and drag me across it. So i've always stopped when the symptoms get overwhelming...

i know it sounds stupid, but I couldn't go out if i looked like a red lobster. I know...i know... im never going to get rid of acne if im not willing to sacrifice 2/3weeks of redness for the rest of my clear-skinned future... but the good news is that ive started again! Except differently.
I want to document this because i want people to read my journey, and hopefully it can help them too. Hopefully my skin type and how it reacts to the treatment can match with someone else who is the same and is looking to start... PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU'RE THE SAME... Ive never met anyone who's got skin as sensitive as mine and has acne...

so here goes nothin...

My skin (ive found) is extremely sensitive... With previous attemps of this regimen ive put a pea of BP on each cheek and it seem to burn my face so badly... and after that 1 night of redness I've always stopped.

BUT NOT THIS TIME.

This time im doing it like a snail: slow and steady wins the game.

My products:

Cleanser- Clinique for Men (for normal to oily skin) (for mornings- its not harsh like some people might think), QV Gentle Cleanser
Benzoyl Peroxide 1.5%- GALDERMA
Moisturizers- Avene Hydrance Optimale (AHO), Avene Recovery Cream (ARC) (for when im red, putting this on literally heals the redness within a day. Its so good. its definitely worth a buy if you need some relief in both redness and itchiness).

So 2 nights ago (today's saturday, I'm talking about thursday night), i decided to finally start. i made especially sure to not use much. literally the most SMIDGEST amount on each cheek and forehead, and covered myself in moisturiser (AHO).
Friday morning (6:30AM): i got woken up by some itchiness on the sides.. i wake up and look at myself in the mirror and found that it wasn't lobster red! but it was still red. I wasn't deterred at this point. I was like: "Oh. Not bad...", and went to wash my face with my QV Gentle Cleanser. After that i just applied more cream, except using the (ARC)... then went back to sleep.
Friday DAY: the whole day i just kept the ARC on my face. It calmed down the redness a tiny bit and i was left with a tanned glow. I looked awesome ahaha.... So i didn't mind it. In terms of acne, i didn't have much acne on my face that time, only 1 stubborn one on my cheekbone, and just remnants of previous acne, but i had to say that i saw a difference (though not much) in terms of smoothness and red spots of new pimples... or maybe this was covered by the slight redness i can't be sure. But it definitely didnt get worse!
Friday NIGHT: Now THIS is when my brain does it's classic "PULL BACK" move... before i brushed my teeth, i was contemplating so much on whether i should continue it... i was going back and forth like a cray cray, but i looked at myself and jus told myself to toughen the fuck up and man up. So i did. And i'm glad i did...
To see if i could tolerate a little less of it and not be red the next morning i put a little less than what i put on the last night, and smeared it only to the sides of my face (the area away from my nose...) i figured that the skin at the bottom of my eyes and near my nose is thinner than the sides, so i thought if i put benzoyl peroxide only on the sides and let the moisturizer bring some of it to the middle area it would be better instead of applying it directly.
Saturday MORNING: I woke up. Slight itchiness on my bottom jawline, but no burning hot feeling. I went to look at myself in the mirror and it wasnt red! biggrin.png Not at all. (fist pump). So far so good. Tonight i might put on a little more and slowly push it up... we'll see.

So that's what i've got so far... I'm pretty pleased.

Deterred?: Nope. Not at all. Looking forward to the next application actually.
