In Topic: Mixing Aha With Cetaphil Moisturizer?

12 June 2013 - 04:36 PM

I was curious as to how you use the aha to get rid of hyper pigmentation. Are you spot treating or are You using it all of your face. I just ordered dan aha and I'm actually not on the regimine but I need something easy to fade my red marks and I heard this stuff works great. I just want to make sure I am using it the best way to accomplish that.

Oh okay thanks for replying, I just wanted to make sure because when you mix Dan's AHA with his moisturizer the consistency almost turns to water so i figured maybe their must be be some type of reaction that occurs and i didn't want to mix the wrong products  together. Ill give it a try though and hopefully it wont be irritating but I've seen the progress that you've made and your skin looks great!

I think it will work just as well. I've been using cetaphil ever since I started the regimen and I love how moisturizing it is. That plus the AHA has worked really well in taking away the hyper pigmentation left behind by my acne. smile.png

During the day I use it as a spot treatment. Then at night I spot treat before I apply my benzoyl peroxide and then after that I mix moisturizer and AHA together and then apply it all over my face. But I guess if you aren't on the regimen, spot treating should be good enough.

Well thank you for your information smile.png I got it im my mailbox today!! I tested a spot on my chin and my jawline which I'll continue to test for a couple more days just to make sure the AHA doesn't break me out. Then I will spit treat my problem areas. Maybe after a few weeks of usage I'll do half and half so I can even out my entire skin tone. Thanks again!

If the AHA doesn't work out for your dark marks look into this PCA  skin pigment gel. My dermatologist had recommended it to me and i thought it worked pretty good. Initially when i would apply it i thought it made my marks a bit darker but in time they cleared up. I still have about half the bottle left and this was more than a year ago. I have like 3 dark spots on my cheeks but these are newly formed and i probably would apply that gel again but i just want to stick to the regimen for now and hopefully dans AHA has some type of effect on them.

In Topic: Spot Treating With Aha

AM:

I put a dab of AHA on the two spots I had after my face was dry from the shower. A few minutes later I added the BP and then my moisturizer. Then I added a little more AHA after moisturizing.

PM:

I dab the AHA on the two spots after washing my face. A few minutes later I added the BP and then slathered AHA all over my face. No moisturizer for tonight.

Good news guys! The cysts have went down dramatically. Wow. And they were pretty red the day before but right now they are back to the color of my skin. I feel so much better. Thanks for the suggestions! smile.png

I have a question i know most of you who use AHA didn't start incorporating it into the regimen after 5-6 weeks. If i wanted to spot treat with it do i still have to wait that long?

hello again! hmm i was on differin for  few months and then tazorac for a few months as well. i had to stop because i got contact dermatitis but it was doing nothing for my chin and the bumps but then again my derm said they were scars so if you think about no cream is really gonna get rid of a scar. i have used mandelic and salicylic acid on the bumps as well and it did nothing too. if you go and get a facial with extractions it will cost you between $50 and $100. i never paid more than $125 for a chemical peel. wherever you go make sure you do your research first and be sure the place is reputable.

you could also try what panos just said too but i doubt it will do much to be honest with you. it cant hurt though.

Well thank you so much for all the information you have given me Tracy. Hopefully ill be able to visit a spa soon and find something that works . Ill keep you informed if i start seeing any progress. Once again thank you!

If i were you ,i would go with this

have you ever tried to squeeze the bumps to see if anything comes out? i have tried differin and tazorac for the bumps but it did nothing just made my chin really dry and red and peely. i had  few of them removed with a lamprobe treatment done but i dont recommend it at all.  i go to a medical spa to get my chemical peels done. some derms do them but most dont want to be bothered. when you go to a medical spa you can ask them to do extractions first to see if anything comes out of them. i would try getting extractions first then try retinoids and peels before checking into any type of laser. also plastic surgeons offices do peels as well it all depends on what depth you want. good luck!

A while back i did try to squeeze something out but i think it irritated the area and i ended up getting a cyst or an infected pimple right in the area making it look worse. Its pretty hard to squeeze anything out because it looks like its deep inside the skin but i appreciate your advice and ill try to make a trip to a spa to see if they can extract anything. I was prescribed Veltin  (a clindamycin phosphate and tretinoin gel) and like you it really hasn't done anything. If you dont mind, can you tell me how long you were on the differin and tazorac? Do you have any experience with BHA's by any chance? Also what is the price range i would expect for an extraction or a chemical peel? Sorry for all the questions but im a 19 year old guy never been to a spa and never had plans on going to one but it came down to it lol.
