#3354891 Shawna's Spironolactone Log

Posted by redredred on 04 June 2013 - 02:10 PM

Again, my success is continuing. In the last 3 months I have had maybe 2 or three minor blemishes and zero cysts! Scarring and hyper-pigmentation is fading slowly, but well. I've been continuing using Argain Oil, 150mg of Spironolactone, and 3 days a week of tretinoin gel.

It seems like I can do whatever I want to my skin as long as I stay on the spironolactone. To help fade scars and keep my pores small and clear I use CeraVe foaming wash and moisturizer. Occasionally I will use a cleanser with glycolic acid or salicylic acid, never scrubs, to help exfoliate. I try and treat my skin as gently as possible.

I am really happy with everything and I hope the best for all the women who are also going this route!

I have had continued success. My scars are getting much better and breakouts are just about non-existant. Hoping the best for all of you who are also going the Spiro route!

Would you say you started seeing the most siginificant results in the last month or so?? I'm at 3 months, so I'm curious if I can expect more improvement!! I'd love to hear about your journey... glad to know spiro is working well for you!

A short summary:

I started seeing improvement at 3 months-- this is also when I increased my dose from 100 mg to 150 mg. My skin got worse the first month, stayed the same the second month and started to clear the third. My chin cleared first and quite rapidly. Then my cheeks started slowly getting better. I still have issues with my cheeks because I pick a lot. I have scars, so the skin isn't very smooth and for some reason I get it my head that I need to continue picking at it even though there isn't any acne which then causes acne/more scars. It's obviously counterproductive and I'm trying to be better about it.

I think a lot of my problems the first month or so were caused by an initial breakout from Retin-A. Although I really like Retin-A, I wish I would have waited on incorporating any topical treatments until I saw improvements from the Spiro. If I were to do it all again I would probably just use CeraVe or Cetaphil products for cleansing and moisturizing and at the most, a weak non-comodonegenic acne product with salicylic acid or glycolic acid. The only reason why I say that is because   it is really difficult to be patient for so long and if other products are causing you to breakout, you may think the Spiro isn't working.

Good luck!

I'm so sorry. :(

I would guess that your body will need 1-3 menstrual cycles to start regulating itself again. Best wishes.
