In Topic: Tetracycline- Is It Worth It?

20 January 2013 - 12:58 PM

  • I took tetracycline for two years straight and my skin was beautiful
  • I came off tetracycline and within a few months i had full blown acne
  • My dermatologist put me back on tetracycline and I started epiduo
  • Its been three months and my acne has calmed down but no where near gone :(
  • I am now considering accutane
  • Just because my acne came back after i stopped, it doesn't mean everyone will have the same effect though
Hope this helps

Hi, i was wondering if you could help me?
  • I was on tetracycline from the age of 16-18, two years straight and it worked really well
  • I stopped taking tetracycline when i was 19 because i wasn't getting acne anymore and foolishly thought i had grown out of it
  • I had the odd one or two pimples on and off but nothing major. Then I came back from travelling in September 2012 and my skin broke out like crazy (still 19)
  • I went back to my dermatologist and he told me to continue with tetracycline and use epiduo
  • I have been using it since October and my acne has reduced but i still have, and i am getting, acne acne on my lower face which is causing bad PIH
Is it possible i have become immune to tetracycline? Should I try a different antibiotic or accutane? I am so unhappy with my skin and i don't want to enter my adulthood with bad acne :( Please help

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply! I think i'm just going to go on accutane because i cant deal with the constant flare ups from epiduo anymore ! Good luck with accutane, looking forward to seeing your results ! :)

Little girl on a plane: Mummy, whats on that girls face, its really big''
Dermatologist: So i'm guessing you're here today because of acne on your face
Mum: Are you still taking your medication
Me and my 'friends' were once drawing silly pictures of each other in class and one drew me with loads of acne and dark circles :(

The worst is when you do your makeup and hair and feel sort of pretty and then you feel someone looking at the mess on your face

Hey,
I had some cystic acne around my jaw/chin/lower face and I understand how stressful and painful it can be. My derm put me on a course of tetracycline lymecycline, epiduo and swapped my birth control to dianette before resorting to accutane. My acne seems to have calmed down (touch wood) and I have stopped getting cysts, just a few pimples around my chin. I personally feel swapping birth control makes a huge difference, have you tried this?
Epiduo is also good but really strong and stings for the first month like crazy. Its worth it though :)

You're still beautiful and remember you wont have acne forever ! Good luck
