Perioral Dermatitis Free 1 Year

19 September 2013 - 01:19 AM

Hi all..

I haven't been on here in ages, but its been 1 year since my dermatitis left and I thought I would share what worked for me and kept it away. For those of you who don't know, perioral dermatitis is said to be something youll be dealing with for the rest of your life. True. but I found products and minimal life style adjustments that work.

Firstly never use steroid creams on your face! As well as steroid nose sprays. Horrible, these things cause this rash. If you have a tiny rash and your doctor prescribes something like this, don't use it. It happened to me and a month later my ENTIRE face was broken out in hundreds of tiny papules.

What I used:

Metro gel (prescription)

Braggs organic apple cidar vinegar (50% diluted for your face) and 1 shot of this a day.

Antibiotics (prescription) of Minocycline.

After 3 weeks my rash was almost gone but I still had issues for a few more months.

I learnt that things that trigger this are floride and SLS (Sodium Lauyrl Sulfate)

The products I use that have worked amazingly are

Aveeno Foaming cleanser

Aveeno Daily moisterizer with spf 15

Tea tree toothpaste from the health food store

Bare Minerals Makeup

Macadamia hair line

I also take one spoon of apple cidar a day as a precaution.

just thought id share what I know since when this happened to me, I couldn't find any blogs on it!

I'll be adding pics tomorrow to show you the difference.

Long story short, you would never know I had it so don't give up there is hope
:-) feel free to message me if you have any questions!:)

Perioral Dermatitis Confirmed!

15 September 2012 - 03:41 PM

So today I have been diagnosed with perioral dermatitis. I used to have moderate acne now it's very mild, so I am on tri cyclin and I was using clindoyxl for my pimples. I got a small rash in may and wen I went to my family doc, she told me it was "contact dermatitis" and
Prescribed me betaderm. Which is a cortisone cream (steroid) I used it and it went away almost right away which seemed like a miracle. Over the next months I developed a small rash here and there and just used my cream.  Last week I got one as well and put the cream on. It didn't seem to help it do when I went back to m doctor she told me to keep using the cream. I did for a few days only to realize something's wrong. It spread to te whole bottom half of my face. I stopped and went to another doc who gave me minocycline and thought they where pimples. It spread to almost my entire face in a week. I went to a dermatologist because I knew what this was. She gave me more minocycline and metrogel. I also have been toning with apple cidar vinegar as I heard this helps. I will write to let everyone know my progress hoping
This will help someone else in the future!

Dermatitis? Please Help!

09 September 2012 - 10:04 PM

Hi I'm new the boards although I've been following them for about a year. Ive have mild to moderate acne for 8 years although it's calmed a bit. My derm wants to put me on accutane because I've tried everything and nothing works. Last year I tried proactive after my friends told me to give it a try. It worked for a while (just the mask) but I developed dermatitis from it! Now everything I use to combat pimples gives it to me. Anyway it went away fr a few months and last few weeks I had a cold, so I used prescription stereo nose drops. Last week I got this weird rash, , and I have no clue what it is! I went to two different doctors, one who told me its acne and one said contact dermatitis.  I was given betaderm to cure it but it hasn't gone down much. Any ideas what this could be? Thanks! http://i131.photobuc...DE00E7824DE.jpg
