Topics I've Started

Overhauled Diet 2 And A Half Weeks Ago

06 July 2013 - 05:04 PM

So I started a new diet 2 and a half weeks ago.  Cut out all fast food.  Paying attention to glycemic load.  Not going overboard on grains and avoiding dairy and citrus fruits which I believe I am intolerant to.  I was a chronic fast food eater before.

I am still getting pimples (less than before gradually) but it is weird.  Huge under the skin cysts are still occasionally popping up but instead of growing large and being there for weeks if not months, they either die down in 24-48 hours or come to heads and turn into pustules which are also pretty short lived.  In the past, none of my cystic acne would come to a head.  While annoying and bad to look at, I will take a pustule over a cyst anyday.

Should I expect continuing results?  Is this a cumulative process where I can eventually clear up?

Accutane Hairloss Questions

When people say that Accutane causes hairloss, does this mean it is going to make my hairline recede like in male pattern baldness fashion or does it just mean that it will thin everywhere?

Facial Plastic Surgeon For Fraxel Repair?

17 June 2013 - 02:23 PM

I am in the process of trying to choose a doctor for Fraxel Repair for my icepick and boxcar scars.  I have found a highly rated facial plastic surgeon who told me he would treat my scars with his fraxel repair laser.  He has glowing reviews (over 50 and all positive) on vitals for things like nose jobs and other facial related procedures but nothing for acne scars.  As we all know that acne scars are harder than anything else, would you trust going to someone who probably does not regularly treat them?  Should I see an actual dermatologist who has the Fraxel Repair laser?

Low Dose Vitamin A?

27 April 2013 - 10:43 PM

In the past, I have had great success with fermented cod liver oil in helping my acne.  1 tsp a day basically took all of the oil out of my skin, stopped breakouts, and gave me no side effects at all.  The problem is the stuff that I was using costs a fortune and I just can not afford it anymore unfortunately.

The blend that I was taking apparently had the correct ratios of Vitamin A, Vitamin D, and Vitamin K2 which enhance the safety I have read.  I have purchased 5,000 IU pills of Vitamin D as well as Vitamin K2.  I am considering purchasing Vitamin A to go along with it to try and recreate the cod liver oil.  I am reading a lot about people supplementing Vitamin A and it seems dangerous.  Many of the people were taken very high doses though.

Does anyone have experience with taking 5,000 IU of Vitamin A a day and know if this is dangerous?  The brand lists the ingredient like this:  Vitamin A (as retinyl palmitate)  5000 IU.

Following Diet For 3 Months - Can't Keep Weight On

11 April 2013 - 01:26 PM

I am 25 years old and have always had a super fast metabolism.  I am very lean and was always able to stay lean even when eating fast food. I have been going to the gym regularly for years and when I eat enough, I am easily able to add muscle. 3 months ago I cut out all fast food and anything processed and have been eating an anti-inflammatory diet based off of whole foods.  I eat a lot of oatmeal, salmon, veggies, steel cut oats, sweet potatoes, walnuts, fruit, beans, and other stuff like that but most of this stuff is not high in calories and is very filling.  It is extremely hard to eat over maintenance calories with these foods.  My skin is doing better but I am losing a ton of weight and fast.  I was a very lean 170 pounds at 6 foot only 3 months ago.  Now I am 153 pounds and am starting to look bad and my strength is plummeting.

I was wondering if any other guys had any tips to combat this while still sticking to a good diet?  I have been looking at weight gainers but most of them are filled with processed crap and sugar.  I do not want my skin to get bad again but I am starting to look like a skeleton.
