In Topic: Problem Is Skin Tone - Is The Regimen Right For Me?

02 July 2014 - 06:41 AM

Hello everybody!

As this is my first post and I'm fairly new to this website, I hope that you will forgive me if this is the wrong section to ask questions.

My problem is the following:

Since my early teens I have been struggling with acne. I am 20 now and just finished my first year of university. When I say struggle, I don't mean that my acne is that bad.

I don't get big pimples but the problem is that my overall skin tone is reddish and not even for some reason with some smaller pimple(rosacea?)

Since I will be going on a study abroad program soon, I have decided that I will take the necessary steps to defeat acne for good before my return! A bit of research led me to this site and the regimen.

Given my circumstances (not really the pimples but more unhealthy looking skin tone) is the regimen still right for me?

Or is there an alternative treatment that is better in my case?

Thank you all so much for your time and I look forward to hearing some opinions on this!

Your acne sounds really mild so I think the Regimen from Acne.org  might be a good fit. However, buying a 5% or 2.5% strength benzoyl peroxide on Amazon will save you money. Acne.org is really expensive considering that it is just benzoyl peroxide :(.

How's the spiro working for you?

The spiro is working well. Right now I am 100% clear! Knock on wood. I don't want to jinx myself...lol.. It's hard for me to know which medications are doing what since I take so darned many of them. I am also now on Ortho Tri-Cyclen.2 months in. From the dermatological journal articles I have read online, Spiro takes about six months before you see a difference in your complexion. The success rate with spiro alone is 66% of women. That number jumps to 88% when you add a birth control pill that is approved for fighting acne like Ortho Tri-Cyclen or Yaz. If you're gonna try spiro I would definitely try a birth control pill as it evens out the hormones so sweetly! PEACE! smile.png

In Topic: Are These Cystic Acne?

It looks cystic to me. Some of the lesions have multiple whiteheads meaning the infection is spreading and is deep in the tissue. Go and see your derm to get a definitive diagnosis. ;)

Honestly I can't see it. Your complexion is smooth. :(

That is definitely cystic acne. Been there. I cleared mine using cephalexin and amoxicillin. Ask your doctor for those antibiotics only. They are the most effective. For topicals ask for benzaclin and tretinoin. I have been clear for going on 3yrs now with this regimen and my acne was severe. You'll clear it up. Just be persistent. Peace!!;)
