Prior Authorization For Accutane?

31 July 2014 - 03:28 PM

So I finally decided to go on accutane, I got the blood work, and the script. When I went to go pick it up, my scum bag insurance company said they won't pay for it, because I am over 25. I've been going to the derm for many years now for cystic bacne, and nothing has worked. My pharmacy and doctor did something called a "prior authorization", and they denied it once again, then I put in an appeal, and they denied it. I have blue cross & blue shield along with express scripts. Wtf? Has anyone dealt with this before? I searched for a topic and can't find anything on it. I need advice on what to do, I'm so pissed off. I pay $400/week for medical insurance, almost as much as I make, and they don't cover anything I need!

Oral Antibiotic Resistance

01 January 2014 - 12:11 PM

Hello, so I've had moderate/severe acne for over 20 years, my derm said I had an extreme case all over my back. So I have never used accutane. I have been on minocycline for over a year and I use panoxyl 10 bar too. This regimen combined has kept me about 97% clear. I just saw my derm again, and she said I can stay on this regimen indefinitely, and resistance is not as common as people think. I'm scared of accutane, and I want this to keep working.

Anyways, my purpose of starting this thread is to find out if there is anyone else out there that has been on oral antibiotics for many years and had success. I have had no side effects since being on these either, so is bacterial resistance just hype?

Diet Never Cured My Acne

24 October 2013 - 05:57 PM

I think all the diet hype on these boards is bs. I was a vegan for 7 years, tried paleo for 6 months (looked like a meth head when I was done), tried starvation diets, tried no dairy, gluten, sugar diets, and the list goes on. Through out all this I still had moderate to severe body acne.  I'm done experimenting on myself. I'm 34, and I am finally making the decision to go on accutane.  If I found out anything in all these years, is that the only thing that did ever seem to effect my body acne was soap, and usually for the worse.

Are Some Forms Of Acne Possibly Psychosomatic?

13 March 2013 - 07:58 PM

I am trying a new regimen, since nothing has ever worked in the past. It is called the not think about acne regimen. I'll keep this board updated on my results. Anyway, I have moderate/severe adult bacne. No facial acne. I have tried everything except accutane, and I mean everything. Now I am just giving up, but I am also moving on. I have read a lot about stress, and its effects on hormones. This is why I am starting to think it is psychosomatic, especially if you are an adult. My new regimen is going to be centered on stress management, and pretending like I do not have acne. It may sound weird, but its worth a try. I mean how many people with acne fret all the time because of it? I bet every one that has acne has 10 times the amount of stress as a non acne sufferer. I didn't want to get in to details and bore you, but if you are interested just google stress/hormones/androgens, and you can see many scholarly articles published on how stress significantly messes with them. Thanks for reading, and good luck. By the way benzoyl peroxide sucks, and always made my acne 10 times worse, and I have tried all forms, even the newish 5% benzefoam.

Discouraged By Results Here

05 January 2013 - 08:21 PM

I have skin similar to the guy with ice pick scars on acne.orgs scar treatment page. I have been reading these scar forums for a while, and it seems like every on here is disappointed with their results. I do not want to waste thousands of dollars for nothing. Should I just get over it, and live with it or does anything out there really work? The only thing I have tried so far was derma rolling with 0% success.
